I Love the Little Fishies. Don't You?

Great report fun and educational! Wow that behind the scenes theatre tour sound super interesting adding that to the list!

Love the photos you both played the relay baton on that perfect! Gold medal for you both :-)

How nice you get free Palo as platinum members a real bonus. We are getting there! I would imagine Palo busy because nobody likes pirate night food! I wonder where they went! Overboard like in Captain Hook! Walking the plank!

Looks like a great day thanks for the photos!

That behind the scenes tour was amazing. I would happily have paid something for this, but it was free of charge.

I assume they all headed for the Pirate Party, which started at 21:45.

I am amazed too. Makes me want to try and bring a lot more and some more dressy.

Well, I figure if I can't be a princess on a Disney ship, where can I be? this is part of the fun of a cruise for me.

The tour sounds brilliant, I'd have loved that. Love the Pirate gang photo.

Corinna - Your wardrobe for this cruise is fantastic. I sure hope that you're happy with how everything worked out. I love your pirate outfit and am so delighted to see that picture of you with all those characters. Well done!

That behind the scenes tour sounds amazing. And well done on the Trivia.

You guys were on a roll with the trivia, congratulations!

The tour of the theater sounds absolutely fabulous. I must keep my eye out for this.

You and Graham had the photo lines down to a science, how perfect. The group one is great :)

Palo sounds delicious as always. Curious that it emptied out so early.

I ditto everything Pam said, you two are lovely and the pictures were great!

It was even better than it sounds. I really love that photo.

I was absolutely delighted with the cruise and everything involved in it. I got totally caught up in the magic of it all. The only fly in the ointment came at the end of the trip when we reached try land again and even that was just a small blip and the second day of that part of the trip, I had an amazing time.

I ditto everything Pam said, you two are lovely and the pictures were great!

Day 13

This was the last of the 4 sea days in a row and we had another leisurely start to the morning. We had set the Mickey call in time for Walk A Mile, but I sent Graham off to this on his own and instead of workout clothes, I put on one of my gowns and my tiara. The second Princess Gathering of the cruise was due to take place this morning. It had an earlier start time of 9:00. I decided I may as well get in the spirit of things. When I got to the atrium about 30 minutes ahead of time, there were about half a dozen families already in line. Actually, they had not set up the lines yet. I staked out my spot. Once the princesses arrived, I did not have long to wait until it was my turn. They all got rather excited about my outfit. I managed to see all 5 of them before the next character set started at 9:15.

When I got up to deck 4 to meet Princess Sofia, she was all by herself with the photographer and her escort. Princess Sofia got very excited as our dresses matched and we were both wearing an amulet and a tiara. I got a bunch of photos from this interaction. I then sat down and waited for Suzy and Perla and was first in line for then. They were also fascinated by my dress and were smoothing out some ruffles. Once I had finished with Suzy and Perla, I headed back to the cabin to get changed into something a little more comfortable and got my book. I then joined Graham who was in his usual spot on deck 4 watching the world go by. I settled down with my book and that is pretty much where I stayed for the rest of the morning with one brief break to get some drinks from deck 9. While I was up there, I also had a hotdog, as I had not managed to have breakfast that morning. I really developed a taste for the hotdogs from Pluto's Dog House this cruise. At one point after I got back, one of my buddies from the entertainment staff came by. He told me that they were doing a rather special show that evening and asked me to come. I normally don't do the shows, but if I am asked that nicely, how can I refuse.

Around 13:00, we took our stuff back to the cabin and the headed up to Beach Blanket Buffet. I had my last tasting that afternoon and the hotdog that I had earlier would not have lined the stomach enough. Graham was in seafood heaven again. They had Peel and Eat Shrimp and Crab Legs. He also had some salad. I headed straight for the hot dishes. I had some Vegetable Fried Rice, Beef Stir-fry, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Pork Loin with Hoisin Sauce. Graham went back for some of the pork and some vegetables. I went to the station at the back of the buffet where they made some Chicken Chow Mein, which was rather tasty.

After lunch, I arranged to meet Graham after the tasting and then I headed off to the Cadillac Lounge. The tasting for that day was Tequila and Margaritas. Unfortunately that afternoon I was on quite a tight timetable and we started late, as people who had signed up did not turn up. So I ended up having to leave before we finished. This was quite educational again. I learned a lot about Tequila that afternoon. I had always known that the name Tequila is tied to a certain region in the same way Champagne or Cognac is. What I had not appreciated is that part of this region is in the state of Jalisco, where we were heading the next day. Indeed, the Patron factory is in the mountains near Puerto Vallarta. Patron was the brand we were sampling that afternoon. We started with a Patron Silver, which is the youngest of the Tequilas. We were encouraged to try it on its own and with salt and lime. On previous tastings, I had always avoided the salt and lime, but this time I decided to try it. It just confirmed that I much prefer it on its own. Next up was a Reposado. We were encouraged to try this with a slice of orange. Apparently this is how Tequila is drunk in Germany. I had never heard that before, but I rather liked it. We also got to taste an Anejo Tequila. Next up were the Margaritas. We got a classic Margarita and some fruity concoction. Neither was anything to write home about. This then left the Patron XO Cafe, which is a Tequila-based coffee liqueur, which is a firm favourite of mine. Unfortunately before we got to this, I had to head off. I collected my Key to the World card from one of the bartenders and signed for the tasting. I then quickly drank my Patron XO Cafe and headed out.

The reason why I was in such a rush was that next on the program was Disney Theme Park Trivia, which I really wanted to do. Graham was waiting for me and we headed over to the Promenade Lounge together. This was absolutely packed. We ended up joining somebody, who turned out to be a cast member from Walt Disney World. He used to be a Jungle Cruise skipper and now works at Hollywood Studios. The trivia was good fun. Some of the answers were a little dubious though. One of the questions was which attraction is two thirds longer at Walt Disney World than at Disneyland. The answer apparently was the monorail. I know that the monorail at Disneyland is classified as an attraction. However, I was always under the impression that the monorail at Walt Disney World was classified as transportation. Still, we did enjoy it and did fairly well, but not well enough to win.

Straight afterwards there was another trivia at the Promenade Lounge. This was part of the Cruising for Trivia series. We decided to hang around for this. Normally a lot of this type of trivia is very much geared to an American audience, but this was a good mixture of Disney questions, literature questions and some of the more specifically American questions I knew the answers to as the topics has come up in Big Bang Theory. I thought we had done fairly well with this, but I was very surprised when we won this. We got a keyring each.

Graham suggested that we should swing by the Port Adventures desk to see what they still had on offer for Cabo San Lucas. We had originally planned to just go for a wander and maybe charter one of the glass bottom boats, but Graham suggested that it would be nice to do an excursion on our last port day. I was definitely up for this. The person at the Port Adventures desk told us that they availability was still good. We decided to take the brochure back to our cabin to look at this at our leisure. It did not take us long to make up our minds. We decided on the Snorkel & Sea Adventure. As you have probably noticed by now, we really do love the little fishies. However, Cabo San Lucas is the one place I have never been able to snorkel before. Up to this point, all the snorkeling excursions always carried a warning that they are not suitable for people who are allergic to bee and wasp stings as jellyfish can be present and their venom is similar to that of bees and wasps. We never managed to establish conclusively if I am in fact allergic to bee or wasp stings, but as I react very strongly to all kinds of insect bites, my allergy specialist advised to assume that I am. So for this reason we have avoided snorkeling excursions in Cabo. This one did not come with a warning. We headed back upstairs to book this. We took the excursion tickets back to the cabin and then went to Walk A Mile.

Walk A Mile was very enjoyable again and we made good time. This suited me very well. The dress that I had put aside for this evening had a lace up back so I needed Graham to tie me into it. Once he had done this, I headed off to the first character set. They only had one set in the first session so this did not start until 17:30. Captain Mickey was out with Pluto in his nautical outfit.

Once I was finished with them, I headed up to the Walt Disney Theater. I will never understand the way people fill this place. I had got there nice and early, but the back rows were already pretty full. I headed down to the front and everything was empty. I got a perfect seat in the front row pretty central in relation to the stage. The show was called Let's Go to the Movies and showcased songs from movie musicals through the decades. Considering that this evening was a one off, the presentation was incredibly elaborate. They used the screens at either side of the stage. One displayed the title of the song and the corresponding movie as well as the year and the other displayed some trivia about the song or the movie. I was absolutely in awe about the talent of the performers. I was not familiar with most of the songs, but I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. There was one song though where I could really appreciate just how good the performers were. One of the last songs was One Day More from Les Miserables. This is my all time favourite musical and I have seen this so often that I cannot quite put my fingers on the precise number. I have seen it at two of the three London theatres were it has been performed, seen the concert version and have also seen the film countless times. I actually know the lyrics off by heart. I can honestly say that this version of One Day More was the best I have ever heart. It was amazing and I had a few tears in my eyes. I have to say my buddy Alfie makes a very good Monsieur Thenardier. Once the show was over, I bumped into Jimmy. I told him how much I had enjoyed the show and that One Day More was the best I had ever heard this song. I ended up with a huge hug. He was so proud of the performers.

After the show, I headed back to the atrium. This time round Mickey, Goofy and Donald wearing their nautical outfits were out together. This was it for photo opportunities that evening. This was a real shame. I would have loved a couple of portraits with my dress for that night. Graham had appeared at some stage and had taken a photo of me with Mickey, Goofy and Donald from the balcony on deck 4. He then came down to join me.

Dinner that night was in Triton's and the menu was the Master Chef Menu. On that evening Graham went with my choices rather than letting Ahmed choose. We both had Double-baked Gruyere Cheese Soufflé with Maytag Blue Cheese, Spinach and Mascarpone Cheese; Succotash Soup: Lima Bean and Corn Soup with Black Pepper Crouton and Center Cut Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Medallions with Caramelized Carrots and Snow Peas on a Potato Cake with Sauce Béarnaise. I passed my Lobster Medallions on to Graham. We also had our sparkling wine, which was our Platinum gift with dinner that evening. Graham passed on dessert, but I had the Sweet Temptations: A trio of Triple Chocolate Terrine; Caramelized Apple Cheese Cake and Raspberry Tartlet.

After dinner, we headed back to the cabin. I took a photo of our towel animal, checked out the Navigator for the next day and then we got ready for bed.

I can see why the princesses fussed over your dress; it positively shimmered!

The show sounds really good. Did they sing songs from lots of movies then and not just Disney?

That dress was a real surprise. When I ordered it, it just looked like a nice simple purple gown. It was only when I had a closer look at it under different lights, I noticed that it shimmers in all kinds of different colours.

The show was fantastic. They had songs from all kinds of different movies. I think the only Disney movies represented were Mary Poppins, Newsies and High School Musical.

The show sounded great, what a treat! And how nice of the CM to suggest it to you :)

Your snorkel excursion sounds nice, I hope the jellies weren't a problem.

Too bad they started the tasting late and you had to leave early.

I love the borders of the photos! flounder on Ariel! Slipper on Cinderella! mrs Potts on Belle :-)

We were walking on the deck one morning when all the Princesses came out going to the princess gathering they wished us good morning we giggled and were starstruck Pam in the elevator with Minnie!

Yum I love hot dogs :-) I need to cruise on The Wonder!

Nice Graham suggesting excursion on Cabo San Lucas.

How wonderful that they sang One day more from Les Mis! That is my favourite as well. We also saw it in London amazing! Enjoyed the movie too didn't think I would.

No jellyfish in sight and it was a fantastic excursion. The show was amazing. The entertainment staff had great fun putting it together and of course wanted as many people as possible to see it. I did not mind leaving the tasting early.

I have the same dress that I was wearing that evening in sky blue. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to wear it on that cruise and the reason for this will be revealed in the next update.

I really like the borders on the photos. When they first did the photo CDs, they did not include the borders. When they changed this, I was at first not at all sure, but they definitely have grown on me.

The Wonder is a fantastic ship. It has none of the bells and whistles of the Dream and Fantasy and now even the Magic, but she has tons of character.

I saw you that morning in the queue for the princess gathering. I though you were fantastic to dress up so early in the day, but it was worth it. I bet you gave others in line an idea for the future to go dressed up. Why should only little ones be dressed as princesses?

I love the colour and shimmer of this dress on you. And how cool to have the princesses fuss over it too.

Another great set of pictures.

Another great day!!! I would love to have all those sea days in one cruise!!!!

I think it was the back to back cruise last year were I decided to dress up for the Princess Gathering and this was so much fun. I don't think you are ever too old to be a princess.

This really is a pretty dress.

I love my sea days. If we would just spend a week going round in circles, I would be happy.

Day 14

After a few relatively leisurely days, it was back to getting up early as this was another port day. We had set the alarm call for 7:00. We got up and ready and headed for Wavebands where we were supposed to meet for 8:00 AM. After the disaster with the last excursion, I was ever so slightly nervous. This time everything worked like clockwork. We got there a little ahead of time and were asked to find a seat. Close to our check in time, they announced that one person for each family should come up with all the Key to the World cards, photo IDs and excursion tickets. The check in process went nice and smoothly and it did not take long until I could return to my seat. We were given a character sticker to wear and I collected some towels before sitting back down. There were some people missing, which caused a short delay, but in the end they decided to just go ahead with whom they had. We were escorted down to the gangway and as soon as we got outside, a representative of the local tour operator took over. He escorted us away from the ship and once we were somewhere where we were not in anybody’s way, we stopped and he introduced himself and some of the crew. He also handed out a map of Las Caletas, which also included a breakdown of some of the optional activities. We had been to Las Caletas before in 2011, when we got rebooked on this excursion after our excursion was cancelled due to late arrival of the ship in Puerto Vallarta. We absolutely loved it and as soon as we knew that we would visit Puerto Vallarta again, we were in no doubt that this is what we wanted to do. This was our third excursion with Vallarta Adventures and we cannot speak highly enough of them. They must be the most professional tour company that I have ever encountered. I had a quick look at the map and discovered that they offer something that they had not offered in 2011: a sea lion encounter. This was something that I always had wanted to do, but never quite got around to. The price was also very fair at $59. So I decided to sign up for this. I asked Graham if he fancied it, but he was not too keen.

Shortly afterwards, we were on our way to the boat dock, which was very close to the ship. They checked our excursion tickets and handed out the life vests and then we were told to get on the catamaran. There were two catamarans docked there. This did not surprise us as in 2011; we had three catamarans going to Las Caletas. We noticed that one of them had hardly any kids on board so we decided to get on this. Fortunately the person collecting the excursion tickets noticed that something was not right. This catamaran went somewhere else. We got on the correct catamaran. Shortly afterwards we were on our way. They were serving juice and also offered fresh fruit and Ginger Cake. I had some Orange Juice, but was not really hungry. Graham also had some Orange Juice and also had a Banana and some Ginger Cake. Shortly afterwards, they came around the boat to sign up people for the optional activities. They made an announcement that they had a special offer on the Sea Lion Interaction where two people could do this for $69. I convinced Graham to join me. I started to get a little concerned. The members of staff signing up people of all sorts of other activities had been past and there was no sign of the lady signing up people for the Sea Lion Interaction. I started to get concerned that by the time she got to us, all slots would be taken. Fortunately that was not the case. She took our money off us, gave us wristbands with the meeting time on them and told us where to meet. The day I had been so looking forward to had just got better.

On the way to Las Caletas, we sailed past the town of Puerto Vallarta, but there was a lot of smog so we did not actually see much. We also sailed through a nature reserve and the boat slowed right down so that we could enjoy our surroundings. Shortly after we picked up speed again, we arrived at Las Caletas. In 2011 we were escorted in by some parrots, but this did not happen this time round. Before we were allowed off the boat, we had to put our name on a list, which would be checked off when we returned. We also were advised not to return back to the boat dock until we heard a bell, as the boat would leave to pick up some more people. Once we got on land, they took welcome photos with people in traditional costume and some parrots. Where they photos were taken was also the meeting point for the Sea Lion Interaction later.

Once we had our photo taken, we headed further inland. They had spent quite a bit of money on Las Caletas since we were there in 2011. They now have a gift shop and also added a boat that is permanently moored there that has sun loungers on it. They had set up some hot snacks for us with freshly baked Tortillas, various Salsas, Black Beans, Cheese, Sour Cream and Guacamole. We decided to stop for a snack and made ourselves up a couple of Tortillas each. They were rather small, but absolutely delicious. This definitely hit he spot. We then headed toward the activity beach. Unfortunately it was high tide. So we could not walk along the beaches, but had to follow a path that was quite steep in places. Eventually we were where we wanted to be. We put on our wetsuits and snorkeling gear and headed for the sea.

We had been warned before we got on the boat that this is the season for sea mosquitos along the Pacific coast and that they could not tell us if any would be present that day. They advised that there had not been any the last couple of days and even if we should encounter some, they are entirely harmless and they would have cream if anybody experienced some irritation caused by the sea mosquitos. Of course, just as soon as I entered the sea, one of them got me. They must be tiny as I could not see anything, but there was suddenly a burning situation on my wrist. This faded fairly quickly. I was quite relieved as I react quite badly to insect bites and things like nettle stings. I got tangled up with the sea mosquitos 4 or 5 more times, but the experience was always the same. It was not very pleasant when it first happened, but the burning sensation faded quickly and there were no visible marks. Graham was not quite as attractive to the sea mosquitos, but he got bitten a couple of times as well and suffered no effects apart from some temporary burning.

Initially we did not see any fish at all. Some of the photographers came over to take some photos of us and one of them told us that the best snorkeling as to be had on the other side of the boat that was moored for people to enjoy the sun on. We swam over there and we were suddenly absolutely swamped by fish. The water is not as clear as in Cozumel, but we saw many more fish there. Graham also learned a valuable lesson: snorkeling gear does not swim. He had put his mask with the snorkel attached on his forehead at one stage and they must have fallen off. We swam around the area for a bit to see if we could spot them, but the water was quite deep at that point and we never saw his snorkeling gear. It looks like we have a tradition for Panama Canal cruises that we lose something to the sea. In 2011, my baseball cap flew off my head and into the Caribbean and now Graham's snorkeling gear had decided that it would prefer to stay in the Pacific. While we were looking for his snorkeling gear, we saw something pretty unique: flamingos swimming in the sea. Unfortunately they were too far out to capture with our underwater cameras with very limited zoom.

By that time we had enough of the sea anyway. We had been in there for a little over 2 hours. We swam back towards the beach and headed over to where we left our stuff. When we got there, a member a staff was walking around with a parrot and asked me if I wanted to hold him. I accepted the offer. The parrot had the rather scary name Godzilla, but was very gentle.
