I booked tickets for my family to FL on JetBlue back in January for a trip in March at great prices. Unfortunately we needed to change four of the ten tickets (5 different round trips) because of various changes in our plans, one son has to fly a day later because of school, another won't be flying back since he's going to the Bahamas with friends and will fly back from the Bahamas and my husband and first son decided they wanted to stay an extra day. I called 1-800-JetBlue to figure out how to accomplish this all fully expecting to pay $30. for each change ($120. total). I got the most amazing ticket agent who proceeded to make all the changes for me, waiving all but one of the $30. fees so that in the end I came out with a total of $90. in credit toward a future flight (roughly the value of my Bahama son's cancelled one way return ticket). I was totally amazed!!!
Just as a comparison I had to change my son's Continental ticket (round trip to the Bahamas, that he had purchased with friends) since he wouldn't be using the first leg of the ticket (Boston to Nassau). If he didn't show up they told me the whole return portion of the ticket would have been cancelled so in order to make it right they cancelled the roundtrip ticket, charged me a $110. change fee and rebooked the return, same flights, same prices. Basically they charged me an additional $110. penalty because my son would only be using half the ticket!!! Of course if he had booked it correctly as a one way to begin with I would have paid less for the ticket and would never had to pay the change fee. I'm sure the Continental Customer Service person had some leeway not to charge that penalty but I guess she just wasn't feeling generous! Oh well, it was his mistake.
