I get someone going very fast in their car up behind me and I am going the speed limit....I JUST LOVE IT!!! I was in a very "mean streak type" mood this morning and after dropping dd off at school - which is outside of city limits - I was coming back into town. The speed limit goes from 55 to 45 in this one spot near our house which a major artery into town and to the school. As I was approaching the 45 MPH area, but still in the 55 MPH zone, I look in my rearview mirror and see this car coming up on me VERY fast...so what do I do..giggle and start dropping my speed down toward the 45....low and behold - it was a high school kid heading to the high school which is also near us and this road is a major artery for kids to get to the high school. Oh he was MAD at me!!!! I just laughed.....

I find this happening to me quite a bit lately, especially with the now returning college students to campus. The tollway entrance and exit is just down from our house also (we are pretty centrally located to some major things that are used in the town) and alot of students and university employees use that toll area to get to and from here. I find myself doing the same thing to the students that are getting off the tollway - same thing, goes from 55 to 45 in a spot and I LOVE it when they are just thinking they can go a speed limit that they wish and I make them slow down....I just love it!!!!!!

So - when I'm in one of these moods....DON'T BE IN A HURRY!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D And you can tell it's me cause I have a WDW license plate holder on my back license plate!!!! :)

Well ya know...I'm like, if you'd get up just 5 minutes earlier you probably wouldn't have been having to speed and try to risk my life and yours!!!!!!

I totally agree with you Chris. But I do find myself cringing sometimes not believing that they will slow down behind me. I also tend to wonder - where's a cop when you need them. I find most of the younger generation is in such a hurry to get to - the red light!

OMG......I am the same way! :D It's like the opposite of road rage....you stay calm and drive normally.

The best part is this: when the 'offender' passes you and looks over......
smile and wave!!!!!!!!!!

Gets 'em everytime....

Wow, maybe I am just one of those speeder people, but I think this attitude is fairly silly. Who are you to determine where they are going and when they should have gotten up to get there? You can have no idea whatsoever what is going on in their life. They may look like a high school kid rushing to school, but what if there is an emergency? What if they are heading to a hospital or a police station or worse....I think you should always keep in mind that you can't possibly know what is going on in another drivers life, so while it might give you a momentary "high" from making them break behind you, what are you really proving to yourself or them? I think that it is only common driver curtesy to at least go the posted speed limit, or to get into the right lane, even if you are going the speed limit so faster drivers can pass you.

I don't believe Chris was advocating going below the speed limit, or purposefully making other cars go too slow. She's just talking about going the speed limit in front of other cars that don't want to. This happens to me all the time. I don't usually speed. If I find myself speeding, I slow down. There's a reason the speed limit is posted as it is. If there are two lanes, I drive in the left lane. But, in many residential areas there's only one lane, and many people don't want to drive 25 or 30. I do, and many people get very angry with me. It is not my responsibility to speed up (and break the law) just because someone behind me wants to go faster, for whatever reason.

And, yes, Chris, I do get a little joy when they pass me and look so darned mad.

Whenever there's someone coming up really fast behind me, I drive much slower than I usually do, just to piss them off. :teeth:

(Of course, that means that I slow down to the speed limit.. :o)

Chris I love your mean streak.

Silly Disney845? Have you never known anyone that has died just because they drove to fast? I have and its awful for the people left behind.

That's okay Disney845 - I, in fact, have had this same KID - and yes it is a kid, it is not a parent and they are heading to the high school because I've seen this same individual during the high school lunch hour pull out in front of cars so they can go get lunch or go have a smoking lunch (assumption there) - come up speeding behind me before up this road. Note - this road comes in from the country and we are a small community so I do know where this kid is heading. Now mind you, generally they are college kids (because they have their sticker for parking in their car and I generally end up following them onto campus) or they are high school kids that I also have ended up being behind also. And it is a 2 lane road - if it were a 4 lane road, they could pass me and I would not go into the passing lane unless I needed to pass someone.

I don't go under the speed limit, and I didn't today, I went from the 55 mph posted limit to the 45 mph posted limit when I got there - I GO the speed limit. I am a speed limit driver and there are very few times that I go under or over the speed limit.

And I was just stating - if they would have gotten moving a little earlier - which is just a general statement because usually if someone is speeding it's because they are running late - they probably would not have been speeding. And that leaving a few minutes earlier might have prevented this person from speeding. Just a general statement.

I never suggested that you should go faster than the speed limit or break any laws. All I was commenting on was to attempt to know why a person is going as fast as they are is ridiculous. If you read the original post, she said that while still in the 55 MPH zone she purposefully dropped down to 45 MPH just to annoy (?) the other driver. I said that there is no way to tell where a person is going or why they are drving the speed that they are. To purposefully prevent someone from going the "posted" speed limit for your own amusement is "silly" in my opinion (I could use a stronger more assertive term, but silly works just fine for this audience). I do not know about posted signage in your areas but I have seen enough signs to know that "Slower traffic should keep right" so that should mean that if you are on a two lane (in either direction) highway and are going slower than other drivers you should be in the right hand lane even if you are going the posted speed limit. Again I am not advocating speeding or law breaking, and no one is discussing dying in traffic related instances Kejoda. The original post was on the happiness derived from causing other drivers to slow down to suit your own mood swings, and the almost omnipotent ability to determine where someone is going and to thus judge when the should have left their home in order to arrive at their destination.

***Please understand that this is merely my opinion, just like you have yours, mine is no better nor worse, I had not intended for my posting to sound so harsh, and after rereading it before I posted I just wanted to put this disclaimer on the bottom so as not to unnecessarily offend anyone, especially you Dec99. I suppose I was just in a grumpy arguementitive mood when responding to this, and I can tell you obviously meant no real harm! :)

Well I'm not going to let what you posted get to me cause it isn't worth it but I just guess I didn't clarify myself properly in the first post.

This is 2 lane road - one lane goes into town and one lane goes out of town. I happened to be in the lane going into town and if I would have pulled over - I would have rolled my car onto the interstate below. As I did say - I was approaching the signage that changed to 45 mph - I was approximately 20 feet from that sign therefore, at least the way I was taught, you begin slowing down when you see the sign so you reach that speed limit without having to break - and yes - I got a warning ticket for going to fast in a posted speed limit because I did not hit that posted speed limit at the time the sign was at my car. And yes, I got satisfaction out of making that kid slow down! And you are right - I should never assume where people are going but I did know where this person was going. He wa going to high school and he was running late!!! School starts at 7:45 and it was approximately 7:40 and he wasn't even at the school yet.

And yes I do understand that is your opinion and I honor your opinion. I guess I have just learned to fully state, clearly, what I mean in my posts. Guess I have also learned to never gloat about something that can be serious. My apologies!
