I love credit cards so much!

Just got some pixie dust. MIL got me an Epcot shirt for my birthday, but DH told her the wrong size. So I've been meaning to send it in and exchange it. Apparently I get to pay return shipping, it said either UPS or parcel post - is that USPS? I wasn't sure, and USPS was $3-$4 less to send it back, so I decided to message the ShopDisney FB page. I told them I got a gift in the wrong size and wanted to exchange, could I send it USPS? They took my order number, asked what size I wanted... and a few hours later told me they were resending the correct size, free of charge! And I could donate the incorrect one to a charity of my choice to share the Disney magic pixiedust:

Well, here’s one I’ve never seen happen before...

I called to expedite my new CIU yesterday. I was surprised to find it at my door just now when I got home since usually it takes two days. I opened the envelope up and thought “that’s weird, they didn’t include the benefits brochure.” Then I looked at the card and thought “that’s funny, it has the same last four digits as my CIP. ...wait a minute.” It IS my CIP!! They expedited me the card I’ve had for 6 months! I called in again and the agent apologized and double verified with me that she was expediting the CIU out to me. Won’t be here in time for us to leave to go to Orlando tomorrow, but we still have $700 left on the SPG Biz. I should have it in time to pay for DH’s car repair next week at least.

That's great!

Anyone have the Discover It card? I'm trying to find the best way to max out the 5% bonus this quarter. I'm a new member, so Discover will match my cashback at the end of the year so it is really 10%

I have love my discoverIT-- I go online to Sams.club. Their $500 disney gift card is $485 and with the 10% cash back the first year of holding a discover it I get 3 X $500 for $1455 plus another plus the 3 pack of $50 for $143 (so total spend is $1598 and will receive $152 cash back) so consider this a win.
Sams club often has reduced membership and/or amex offers which is how I justify keeping my membership there.

Speaking of Amex offers, there is a spend $350 get 6000 MR for a hotel stay booked on amex travel. I was fortunate enough to get this offer on my plat so will get the regular 5x MRs plus 6000....so for one night at SFO (had to work hard to find an expensive room!) I'm earning 7,800 MRs. Whoo hoo!

The 3 x 50 packs for 143 are a better savings than the 500s for 485.

Hilton uses a dynamic pricing model so there isn't really a set price per se. For this hotel though for every day within 2 months of our date it's 70k and as dates are added they start with 70k. Most places I look at I see an average of 35-50k per night in the middle brand names, some can drop to 20-30k in off peak. I think the general consensus is .5 cpp is a good/average redemption rate.

See that I can get behind. That would make sense and while it's a lot of points I could see myself spending it for that. This is just a standard room in a very convenient location that is not serviced by many other hotels. AFAIK other than being new and convenient there's nothing special about it, but I also am not planning on paying the cash rate they want so points they will get! I'll just hope pricing fluctuates in the meanwhile, I have another 10 months to go.
We have about 6-7 months for ours so I’m hoping price changes some but I haven’t seen it change from 86k yet

I'm thinking of buying the BJ's online membership, which costs $10. I'm told Disney gift cards are 8% off right now, but I can't see the price as a non-member. Can anyone confirm this, and that online only members can purchase them? I can buy from Sam's for 4% off, but even with the $10 I would spend, BJ's comes out ahead.

I'm tagging @Livelovedance here - I believe she does the Discover/BJs thing.

Thanks for the tag! I’ve been busy all day and I won’t be able to catch up on the thread now, but I wanted to reply because I have used the Discover it card with BJ’s a couple times this quarter. I was considering maxing it out but I didn’t (I got really close though- but I can use the rest on amazon or any future deals. I’m hoping another good gift card sale will happen in December!).

Disney gift cards were 8% off, but the sale unfortunately ended. The prices available right now online are:
$500 GC for $484.99
$100 GC for $95.99
$50 GC 3-pack for $144.99
$50 GC for $48.49
$25 GC for $24.49

Just curious where you’re staying?

:offtopic: So for all the DVC owners in this thread - I executed my contract and need to send my escrow funds along. The contract says overnight the check. Can't I just regular mail it? It has 7 days to get to Florida. Did everyone else always overnight?
DVC owner..but bought years ago at Disney....if it were me I’d want tracking on the paperwork so either overnight or regular Priority mail..is usually 2 day and costs much less than overnight

Tagging @WVMomof3 and @trenty, since we were just talking about it this morning — Chase United MileagePlus Explorer – 50,000 Miles Publicly Available.

It figures it would become public as soon as a got a "special" mailer. lol Just curious, I believe you said you have had since college, do you know how hard these are to get in comparison to the other Chase cards? Just wondered if I should try for my DD20 as she is the one I plan on using United points for in the immediate future.

@Lain SFO Airport Hyatt in an executive room something something... I think. I had to work HARD to spend $350:laughing: Originally I was going to use this offer for ATL (airport) on NYE but couldn't find an expensive enough room. Then I remembered we were headed to SFO...so yea for the high cost of living/visiting

Another score-reviewed our Hilton reservations for ORD and Prague and saved about $450 thanks to "your reservations qualify for lower rates." I'm just changing reservations all over the place and my magic travel book is not pristine with the scratch outs but can't sneeze at $450!

Oh man... I think I got my United MileagePlus credit card something like 18 years ago? So it wouldn’t be a good DP. Back then, United offered a student credit card, which I signed up for since I was doing a fair bit of flying between home and college on United and I was booking my own flights (and United actually had a good product). I’m sure the lending requirements were totally different back then too. I eventually upgraded my student card to a grown up card after I graduated, then the card got product changed a few times until it became the United MileagePlus Select, and I eventually product changed it to the no fee MileagePlus rewards card after I started churning and putting all my spend towards MSRs and variable rewards points like UR and MR. I’ll never cancel this card because it’s one of my oldest and carries no fee, and I’ve added my DD5 to it as an AU, so I throw a $5 Amazon reload onto it every six months or so.

I think the concensus is that Chase wants to see a year of credit history before they approve DD for their cards. It probably helps if DD has a banking relationship with Chase too.

@SouthFayetteFan Just a DP, I opened a Schwab brokerage account using the link from DISchurners, which did say I would get a $100 bonus after depositing $1k. I never got the bonus nor took a screen shot. Just went to click the link again and the page is gone :( So, you may want to update that when you get a chance.

If anyone happens to have a screen shot of the offer, let me know. I'm going to contact them but I have no proof.

I've stayed there a couple of times when we had an early flight and a small child. It's nice. Never stayed in a fancy room there.

Thanks for explaining. I guess it makes sense, but it sure makes it hard to plan. I was looking at a Hilton at JFK but then just decided to splurge and move to the city early since Hilton wanted too many points for just an airport hotel IMHO. Since we are transferring URs or MRs to the hotel accounts Hyatt seemed to be the better deal for us, so I have yet to try using points at a Hilton.
As far as using URs, I'm guessing Hyatt is always a good choice. :)

Thanks. I guess my mailer or the in flight link don't mean too much right now for me then. I think I will hold out to see if a better bonus comes along. I need the points for a potential 2020 (july or august) trip so I can wait until spring/summer of 2019 to apply as I can probably meet MSR pretty quickly. In the meantime I can keep building up my URs which I prefer anyway.
