I love credit cards so much!

I'm tempted to pay off some vacation rentals for next summer even though they're not due until closer to check-in. The exchange rate seems good now (one is in EUR, one in GBP). And it would go towards meeting the MSR on my CIP.

I usually don't like prepaying though, would rather have the money earning interest (not a lot, but still). I'll meet the MSR in any case, it'll just take a little longer. I don't need the URs at the moment, but I WANT them, lol.

WWYD?

I upset reddit with my post. Sorry not sorry :confused3

Obviously this post meant I was just illegally applying for cards in peoples names.
Congratulations to DH, who did not know he had applied for a SW Biz until I sent him the screenshot of it in his account.

I just keep my Karma up with the occasional one-off post about DH, or something in the TR thread. Guess I misjudged this one.

Hey churners! I am not to a financial churning point yet, but I do try to keep up on the news. Just wanted to drop in and say thanks for the education. AND because I've learned rewards, I'll be redeeming my new CS points for a free flight and rental car to visit my dear friend next May. :flower1:

For kicks, you should check how many times your DHs applied for these cards and canceled their apps: https://www.americanexpress.com/applicationstatus
I didn't realize you could see the cancelled apps. I was close in my estimate. I thought it was 5 times but really only cancelled his application 4 times. 5th time was the charm.

My DH probably won't even see his SPG Biz as MSR will be hit with real estate tax in Dec and holiday spend. Saw your comment on your Reddit post so I guess I join you in the nefarious CC applications . As long as it doesn't impact his credit score or he has to call in, he is my reluctant P2. So far Biz cards are fine as he does have a "business" and doesn't impact his score - except that stupid inquiry by Barclays.

Solidarity :rotfl: My DH is less reluctant than he was at the beginning, but he is a silent partner unless otherwise needed (which is basically calling). He is happy to let me handle everything as long as I stay on top of payments and label his cards with how to use them :) I have you guys for in depth strategy talk.

Question regarding Barclay AAdvantage Aviator Business Mastercard.

I applied two days ago to take advantage of the 60K AA miles after first purchase, scheduled to go away after 10/31. I received a message that Barclays needed to call me for additional information, but I never received a call, no email either. Is anyone aware of a phone number I can call to check application status, or should I just sit tight? (There is a website mentioned in older travel blogs but it was unable to find my application.)

FYI, I am 4/24, 2 hard pulls in last year, both in last 3-4 months, good personal income and >800 FICO. I reported $2K annual business income.

Haven't read anything since yesterday morning but just wanted to share a few things...

On the Alamo and skip the counter - I did my Alamo through the UR portal on points. I logged in yesterday and had the option to Check in online. I thought that meant skip the counter - nope. Directions said go to Counter. They said you can not skip the counter unless you book directly through the Alamo website. And @SouthFayetteFan you definitely have to have the driver and the credit card the same name. Though it sounded like if you paid with URs, it didn't matter what card you showed them, just any card in your name. I listened to the people check in next to us and they had this issue. The husband had no credit card (say what?? lol) and the wife did but didn't want to drive. They said they would have to pay $15/day extra driver fee. Then the agent said since this is prepaid if you have a debit card in husbands name that will be fine. Good thing for them, it sounded like they were having the car for several weeks.

I told my DH we needed to apply for SW on one of our 3 flights this week. As soon as we took off he was on the app looking at the options. lol We had choice of 50,000 points for the $69 card or the $149 card. We went for the $149 card and got instant approval. I was a little worried because right before we left I added up his CLs with chase and realized he was right at 50%. I knew I didn't have time to lower them so I did not. He was approved with his highest limit at the moment.
Thanks for the info. Of course the cheaper van at Dollar isn't available now today, lol. So I guess Alamo gets my business after all! I'll just go to the counter...like a peasant.

Have some upvotes from me, lol! A bunch of people came in and defended you too, haha. I guess people don't quite understand how marriages work with 100% shared finances and transparency.

Boy, you kinda got roasted for that one, haha. My P2 is also a "just get whatever and give me the card I can be using" type.

Ha, 5 cancelled, one approved.
My DH will never see his either, he doesn't usually get them and he doesn't care LOL.

Yes, they showed up eventually! I had posted it, came back a few mins later and was -9 or something. I was thinking, I know I've read a million comments over there from people who do the same set up. Though honestly, I think there's a lot of people who don't understand marriages with 100% shared finances/transparency...

mine too

I think we've decided on Spring Break 2020 for our Disneyland trip. I'm thinking of adding a ski/snow portion also, maybe in Park City - but not sure if that's a good idea (I have no clue about snow vacations and if there will even be snow in March!). By then, I could cover the whole trip (minus the park tickets/spending in DL) with URs/MRs, and if by then Chase is still on it's Disney ban, I would work on getting discounted GCs for that portion.

Our 15th wedding anniversary is 2 months after that, so hopefully we'll have some URs/MRs left over for a trip to the BVIs

Snow all depends on the winter. There may be snow but maybe not. El nino and la nina will wreck havoc too. There's still been snow pack in the cascades by Seattle and they've reopened for memorial day weekend skiing. But there's been years with no snow and no skiing. Not sure if UT is the same or not.

I guess I’m not 100% sure what my focus should be. I have tons of Marriott points and over 100k URs coming soon. I just got JB biz so will have a bunch of those miles. I have some SW miles and a CP. I was planning to earmark DH for the CP for 2020-21. Now I’m not certain it’s really the best bang for our buck. We only used it once this year for a quick flight that would have cost $100 and then we are going to Orlando in Feb but the flight wasn’t a lot either maybe 14K RRs. Will try for a trip or two in the fall. But the boost to our RR account was awesome so may go that route.
I am 4/24 going to go for CIC before I go for a personal. Then I’ll be 4/24 again in March if I get arrival + soon. I like the idea of working on MSRs and sockdrawing but I have a lot of AF cards and it seems like most biz cards come with that. I’ll prob do the BBP next with self referral after CIC... also nervous amex will pop up on me too...
but I have a lot of AF cards and it seems like most biz cards come with that
AFs come with both biz and personal cards. Make a list of all your AF cards, note when the next AF will be charged and then evaluate each one and determine if the math works for you to keep it based on each cards benefits. You never want to pay an AF that won't pay off for you.

also nervous amex will pop up on me too
Nothing to be nervous about there! There is no hit to your credit score, the only thing you lose is the time you spent doing the app. Just keep trying in the following weeks and the pop up might disappear. Have a plan of an alternative card/cards in case the pop up doesn't disappear in the time frame you want it to.

I got an email from AMEX saying if i spend $1k on Amex Hilton they will give me 10k points up to 20k points? Did anyone else get this? Is it a good deal?
Yes, it's a nice deal. Others (like me) got an email to spend $2k get 20k points, can use it twice by Xmas. Unfortunately I have no spare spend to put towards this right now...

Thank you for the info!! The more I think about it, the more I just might break the two trips up - with 9 days to play with (and traveling to CA from FL), I'd rather utilize as much time as possible to enjoy DL. With Galaxy's Edge being open by then, I anticipate higher crowds, and since we don't know when we could get back, I want to make sure we get to experience everything!

We could always do a ski trip on the east coast, so I have several options for that!
