I love credit cards so much!

So we finally got our points today and I'm seeing basically no options to fly in and out of Japan with United in May. There just isn't anything left for business saver awards roundtrip. I'm not sure what we will be doing now.

It looks like our only choice would be May 1-15 which means we would be there during Golden Week and I was trying to avoid that.

Yay for points showing up finally! Sorry you are not seeing flights you want.

Stay safe. This is no joke!

Hopefully everything is good both at your house and for your horse. I'm watching it since I have friends in NC but all are inland, but also because of my house. Though it looks like it won't be too bad in the Charlotte area. But I also know the last insurance claim on the house was for hurricane damage that got it a new roof.

Thank you guys! I'm southwest of Richmond. We'll definitely be getting some, but with the current forecast it's looking like the brunt of it is diminishing for us. My horse is about 100 miles inland in NC. They're definitely going to get hammered, but their property is on higher ground and my horse has a big comfortable stall to relax in so hopefully they'll be ok. My trainer has ridden out many a hurricane, so I'm confident in his abilities to care for everything. Just hoping they stay safe too.

On the other hand... some other people I know live at Topsail Beach and are not evacuating. Pure insanity. They maintain that they've stocked up on supplies and have a whole house generator... yeah, so do I. But a whole house generator and supplies aren't helpful when the generator is underwater and the hurricane blows the roof off your house.

Congrats on getting your points (and glad we were actually able to figure out when they’d post for you). I’ll reiterate for everybody’s benefit that we should probably not advocate changing a statement date in the future with the expectation that points will post sooner.

I have question re: Amex Jetblue offer (200/40) has anyone seen a DP on these? I'm considering using it (have it on 3 cards) but wondering about buying a JB gc to trigger the credit, or if I buy airfare, and with taxes etc is't over 200 does that count? or do taxes count in the total?

I agree with this lol. Now I need to scour every possible option for getting to Tokyo. We originally wanted to travel out of Chicago, but I'm not sure I want to be there over Golden Week. If we go out of LAX, we have to be there for almost 3 weeks.

I want to say congratulations! But it's been such an ordeal for you getting these points, I'm resigned to, "Thank goodness." I'm sorry the delay's taken so long that award availability's filled up. But don't the Japanese tend to travel during Golden Week? That could mean less crowds. And although some businesses close down, I'm sure the tourist spots will still be accessible.

Returned from our very first adults only trip and our first stay at the Swan last Tuesday. I've been playing catch-up since then, so I'm still trying to get caught up on my favorite thread. I'm about 100 pages behind, so I'm sure it will take me a while.

Wanted to say Congrats @speedyfishy!!

I'm starting to think about SW CP for 2019-2020 and I'd appreciate you guys letting me know if I'm thinking of the right plan of action for this.
DH has it until Dec 2018, so it's my turn now. I'll be on a flight 10/4 and 10/9. Was thinking of doing the in-flight app for the Priority card since the bonus is 50K RR instead of the usual 40K. I'd pair that with the Biz card for 60K to get 110K for CP. I originally planned to use DH's support links, but this is really my best option at this point to attain 110K as quickly and easily as possible, right? Also, since one card is personal and one is biz, there's no need for a true double-dip, correct? I'm wondering about timing on this since I need to be 0/30 for the biz card, so I'd have to do that app first. I'm a little afraid of bonus posting too early since I'd be applying so early in October. Only other concern is I already have 2 Chase biz cards (CIP and CIC), so I'm hoping they will approve a 3rd.

From what I've read, we want to avoid Golden Week at all costs. It sounds like all of the tourist spots are completely full during that time and the hotels raise their prices quite a bit. I'm now seeing nothing out of Chicago which stinks because that is our closest that we can drive to with nonstop to Tokyo that I know of. Does anyone know any other Midwest airports that fly nonstop to Tokyo?

Just make sure you are careful not to hit the spend early. You’ll want to keep very close track of it.
I haven’t tried for a 3rd biz but many people here have gotten them. Just make sure your total chase CL is not high ahead of time to make the approvals go quicker.
If you don’t need it right away in Jan, maybe do the biz in Oct and the personal in jan. I’m sure you could go quicker than that, I’m just a timid churner.

So others can better advise re going for the SW CP and in-flight offers. @wendow just came back from TX yesterday and was on the lookout for the 50k in-flight offers. There was a lot of chatter about the 50k offer on the different cards yesterday, but I believe @wendow only saw the 50k offer on the new Priority card.

One thing you might have missed is a lot of discussion about how much longer it's taking for signup bonuses to post on both Chase branded and co-branded cards, including the SW cards. Typically, Chase gives you 115 days from approval to meet MSR. Historically, if you meet MSR at least a week before your statement closes, the signup bonus will post following the close of the statement. However, in the past month, people have not been seeing their signup bonus points post (or even go pending) even though they met MSR well before close of statement. There are a lot of theories why this is happening, from some kind of technical glitch affecting bonuses posting, to Chase purposely delaying the posting of bonuses to slow redemptions and fluff up their quarterly numbers. So rather than worrying about posting too early, the concern now is how long it's taking for the bonuses to post. Remember, though, Chase is counting spend only when counting whether you've hit MSR; they don't deduct for refunds or credits -- so keep track of how much spend you're putting on the cards so you don't trigger MSR too early, and don't expect a refund to drop your MSR back down.

Keep in mind, although it could be a bit annoying, find one ways instead of round trip. If you have to fly out of LAX but can get back to ORD non stop great! Or something similar. I'm not sure if there are any other midwest airports that have non stop, ORD is United's hub so I doubt elsewhere. Another airline maybe out of Detroit. You'd want to look at Google flights or google midwest airports nonstop to Japan.

Ya that your points finally posted....Boo that the availability isn’t what you were looking for

I opened a business and personal last fall to get the CP.....just make sure you wait until after January 1st to complete the spend on both cards
Also look at your credit limits to see if you should reduce them a month or so before applying so the new limits show up on your credit report

Unfortunately, I can't do that if I'm going to use Virgin to book. I asked them and they said it has to be round trip. I did find May 19-June 5 for nonstop out of Chicago so I just need to call Virgin to book it. Dh isn't home and isn't answering his texts so I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and book it or not.

Okay so how do I transfer miles from my Chase UR account to Virgin? Can I do it while on the phone with Virgin?

I've never done a transfer to Virgin, but assume it works similarly to United. Go to the Ultimate Rewards page of the card that has the points you want to transfer. There should be a tab across the top of the Rewards Home site that says Transfer to Travel Partners. Click that and your saved travel partners should pop us as options. If you haven't saved Virgin as a travel partner yet, hopefully it will give you the option to do so. I can't see that screen since United automatically pops up as my saved travel partner.
