I love credit cards so much!

So we stayed at the Fairfield Sandusky on Saturday for our little Cedar Point trip. It was using a free night cert from the Marriott CC so no cost, yay!

I charged $1.75 to the room for a Diet Mtn Dew (used the CSR so oh boy, used another $1.75 of the travel credit there!!) AND somehow was given 500 points for the stay, LOL! Kind of a strange one...Free Night + Reimbursed Dew + $3.50 worth of Marriott points...I guess I'll chalk it up as a win!

Seriously! The conference has really good content and speakers, so I don't even feel guilty asking to go!

Wait... is this the conference you booked for yourself and a colleague to the tune of $2k each towards MSR on your Biz Plat? And it’s at the Grand Floridian?!

I somehow have two Amex Hilton biz cards....I had one expedited after calling about expected delivery and was told it hadn't gone out yet. Then I got one in the mail today....I have to assume this was the original card I was going to get? What should I do with this second card? I already confirmed the first one and put spend on it and added it to online login. Can I keep the second and give to DH for his daily spending?

Sure. The expedited card is essentially a replacement card.

I'm not worried about it, either. Of course, I did ask DD (who has flown to Europe several times without me) what she would do if a fellow passenger became inappropriate. "Well, I'd ask him to stop. Then I'd raise my voice and shame him. If that didn't stop it, I'd ask the flight attendant to move me. If that didn't happen I'd throw up a fuss about being attacked. Don't worry mom, I'm fine." So maybe I'm not the most negligent parent

Your daughter is nicer than me, I’d go straight to the last option :rotfl2: A guy grabbed me in high school and I went all in and found out the hard way my high school doesn’t allow for self defense under any circumstances :sad2:

New (increased?) Hilton Offers Out!

So I admittedly don't follow a lot with Hilton points BUT for those interested there's some discussion on Reddit right now about increased offers. Check out these links for more info - maybe somebody who knows more can share their thoughts here...

https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/9dk8ew/amex_hilton_aspire_150k_public_offer/

https://apply.americanexpress.com/hilton-card/

Just a word of advice - before you jump on one of these, make sure there isn't a better offer available via dummy booking (or check to see if the same offer is available via support link). Good Luck to all interested/applying!!

EDIT: these offers appear decidedly better than support links. Those with these cards should keep an eye out to see if they actually increase the support offers too at some point.

So, as you may remember, I really want the Aspire card and I got the dreaded pop-up when I applied a couple of weeks ago. I've been putting spend on my Amex cards since then, and I was planning to wait a few months and try again, but this offer is making it so hard to wait! How long do you guys think it will stick around?

So awesome! My Debbie downer warning: just keep in mind on the Emirates flight over to Dubai to not have the free champagne while in the shower... or at least make sure it's out of your system before landing... or be able to lie really, really well.

That story about the British woman was so bizarre. I don’t understand why that would happen, especially since non-Muslims can drink in the UAE. I had a friend that lived in Abu Dhabi for two years and never had any issues at all, and that area is more conservative and much less touristy than Dubai.

That must have felt SO good. I can't wait to hear about this trip. I was in Waikiki in July and sat in the lobby of the Royal Hawaiian and just loved the feel. It's definitely on my list.

Definitely. It’s 105k Marriott points! I’m locked out of the Starriott cards for at least the next two years, and squeezing in before Marriott implements peak pricing, so you bet I was going to fight for the adjustments.

I’ll be sure to post about the hotels. They’ll be my first DISchurners hotel reviews.

I just love SPG’s historic properties in Waikiki: the Royal Hawaiian, the Moana Surfrider, and the Sheraton Waikiki. We’ve actually stayed in both the Moana and Sheraton. My wife and I held our wedding reception at the Moana. We’ve never stayed at the Royal Hawaiian, although we’ve toured and visited the property several times. So that’s something I’m really looking forward to. The Moana and Royal Hawaiian are just quintessentially old Hawaii, and the Sheraton — and I’d add the Hilton Hawaiian Village — also have that effect of transporting you back to another time.

Yes we do. At the very least it is worth the trouble for the initial bonus. Opt for the email and do the review on the first dine or two to max the bonus and points. DH maintains VIP status with the program and gets 5x AA miles and 3x UR points per dollar. He will actually look for new places to try with coworkers at lunch on the network. I don’t but am pleasantly surprised when I dine somewhere that happened to be on the dining rewards network and get an email saying I earned points. Earl of Sandwich is on there so DH will pick up gift cards when in Disney springs in separate transactions to hit the VIP requirement.

Our normal places don’t either but we’ve figured out how to make the program work for us. It’s a neat way to try new places.

So do you get a set number of RR points per visit (or transactions) or a varying umber of points depending on how much you spend?

That one super freaked me until I learned more about the situation. She tried to enter on an expired Swedish passport and was denied, she then tried to use her Iranian passport and was told she could use that if she bought a temporary visa but had to leave within 8 days. They claim she refused to pay and got angry and verbally abusive and that led to the arrest. Official statement: http://www.mediaoffice.ae/en/media-...atement-by-the-attorney-general-of-dubai.aspx for your peace of mind. As much as I don't believe too much coming from any government these days this makes a lot more sense than "woman arrested for drinking 1 glass of wine served to her by national airline". Any law enforcement official would ask if you've been drinking if you started making a scene and became belligerent at immigration! Maybe none of that happened and they made it all up but I really don't think so, some facts you can't fake- like an expired passport.

May as well give it a try again. Worst case is you get the pop up again.

Is the 100k Biz Platinum call in offer dead? Just found out DS needs surgery and our insurance has a really high deductible so that 10k spend suddenly seems more doable!

The main line to the [Phoenix?] call center that was handing out the 100k MR/$10k MSR/3 months Biz Platinum offer has been disconnected, but people were still able to get the offer by calling the direct lines of reps in that office. Check your PM shortly.
