I love credit cards so much!

I've been thinking about doing this too but I wasn't sure how easy it was to cancel those items from the mortgage payment and hold them ourselves. Do you have to have paid down your mortgage and certain amount to be eligible to do that?
This was a lesson I learned many years ago re the mortgage and the various payment bundled into it...once we had paid a certain amount into our loan(I forget what it was) I refi'd and started paying just the mortgage separately. This happened bc My mortgage bill kept changing bc they weren't keeping the taxes in order, either too much or too little and I like knowing what I owe. I like the simplicity of this, and I like paying taxes to hit MSR on my own. I keep my own escrow acct so I have the $ to pay the taxes etc when needed.

Hotel AmEx offers:

Marriott spend 300 get $60 expires 10/25

I got that one on my SPG BIz

(Hilton) Spend $250 or more, get $50 back at Embassy Suites & Homewood Suites & Home2 from 8/27/2018 to 11/15/2018

I got that one on my Everyday.

ETA: Ah, I see DoC beat me to the punch again on the Marriott offer. I see in the comments though that someone seems to have successfully done the multi - tab trick on it: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/targ...0-receive-60-statement-credit/#comment-634764

Just booked two different hotels (at two different potential stopping points) for our drive down to Orlando in November in an effort to stop myself from booking those Jetblue flights... ugh. At least there was a 15% off deal on hotels.com so I got one room for $89 that's about 4.15 hours into our drive and another for $79 that's 5 hours into our drive. Not that much of a difference, I know. I'll probably go with the one about 5 hours away. There's another good rate on a room 6 hours away, but I don't know I want to drive that far our first night since I'd still like to be decently rested since we'll be going to MVMCP the next night.

I can't believe that's what you pay for property taxes. We had a Townhouse in NH last year and the property taxes were like $4500 a year, and that didn't include the HOA fees. I am paying that now in RI but at least I have some land and not shared with my neighbors that were literally through the walls.

I live on Long Island...our property taxes are crazy high...most of it is our school taxes

Yes, 20 percent seems to be the magic number, also connected to having to pay PMI (private mortgage insurance).

Going to check for the Marriott since I have a Courtyard stay tomorrow and Renaissance stay in 2 weeks.

Just for kicks I tried adding the Marriott/Embassy Suites offers to all of my cards... Embassy Suites caught it right away and told me I already added it to another card when I tired to add it to the second, but Marriott added to both. I'm sure it will disappear soon, just thought it was funny they didn't act the same.

Just looked into canceling my escrow and my insurance was just paid last month and taxes not due until February of next year. Wish I would have looked 2 months ago, could have used that spend!

Upon further inspection Taxes are not due until February because they just paid the first half this week. Doh. I thought they were due around now. Darn, just missed it. I will see about canceling the escrow though because we are way below 80%. I thought that meant you had to have had 80% of it paid off not the other way, and I thought we were close to 20% so I am way good the other way.

Yeah I just saw a comment about that on DoC and added it to my post. I'll have to read the terms of both offers. I recall when it first got shutdown there was slightly different wording in the terms for the offers that were SSN/name restricted. I assumed all new offers would have that language but maybe not? Or we just found a glitch in the matrix. Either way, sad I didn't see DoC first cuz I just realized I added it to my SPG first before signing into my Everyday so I goofed myself up on this one :headache:

Darn, DH is staying at Marriott 3 nights this week but has to use his work card. Jealous of those who can expense their work travel. Though I can see how that would be very bad for some people having to come up with money upfront.
