I love credit cards so much!

My Southwest Plus is due for renewal soon.
Last year my fee posted 9/1 and my points posted 9/4. I did renew this card last year without asking for a retention offer. I plan to have dh go for CP later, just haven't decided on the card combo yet. Probably the biz and Plus or Premier. I don't know that it's worth renewing this card just to refer him, but that would be more RR.

Is it worth calling for retention on this card or just cancel? I rarely use it and we'll have SW cards in a few months. Do I literally just say I'm checking to see if there are any retention offers on my card because I'm considering closing it? Should I be calling now or closer to September or wait until the fee posts?

I absolutely hate making phone calls.

Even if the exp dates and cvv's are different? My dh's csr and my replacement card have the same exp and cvv.
I believe so - it wasn't reported as stolen so they most likely won't deactivate the old card. It's similar to how when you're sent a new card as your exp. date approaches they say "make sure you update any bills you have autopay on, etc." BUT that old card will continue to work until it hits its exp date.

I'd say, I'm using other cards now and it's hard to justify paying the annual fee. If there was some way to offset it, maybe I'd keep the card open.

I have a few questions that I can't find the answer to. I'm hoping people here can help.

1. I have a Southwest Plus card and my anniversary is coming up in mid September. I'd prefer to cancel the card to avoid the annual fee. Is it possible to get and retain the bonus points and still get a refund on the annual fee?
2. I want to refer my wife to the Plus card on September 1 (to space out from her last application). If I refer my wife and she applies September 1, and my statement closes mid September, would I see the points in my account mid September? Would I then be able to cancel the card in October and retain the referral points?
3. Is there a referral bonus for the SPG consumer card currently? I tried to refer someone but I could only generate a referral for the SPG business card
Do you happen to know the exact date you applied for the card and the date your statement closes?

Everything you describe in 1 and 2 should be possible but if you know the actual dates I can probably lay it out more precisely.

We are doing Universal post a RCL cruise in Feb. Did you get get tickets directly by calling cruise and tours? Wondering if more ticket deals for next year will come out later. Also thinking of upgrading to AP. So when they bridged they used the original price and couldn’t see you paid in URs?
I got the tickets directly on the UR portal. They used the gate price of the ticket and did not know how I paid or how much I paid for my tickets.

ETA: When I ordered the tickets on the portal, I was given vouchers not actual tickets. You need to go to Will Call to get the actual tickets. Make sure you do this first before upgrading. Then you take those tickets to guest services inside the park to bridge to AP's. They will give you gate price value for your tickets regardless of payment amount/type.

yes I ordered it as a damaged card. ugghhh...I think they are onto us. dang it. I eat out so much I need the 3x ur on that.

@Lain , @SouthFayetteFan, @Albort...ya'll seen anything about this on reddit?

the whole 2nd card isnt very known so its not mentioned too often on reddit.
In theory, the card numbers, exp date and code should match. My guess is that its probably approaching the expiration date maybe? so they probably refreshed it. my freedom card, although with a refreshed exp date, the 3 digit code remains the same.
unsure, u should just activate it and see what happens. I probably just call and say that ur metal card gets stuck in the parking machine sometimes and request for a plastic one specifically for that(excuse to have 2 of the same card), and u use the plastic one.

Both cards should work until you hit the expiration date. I don't think they deactivate the old card.

Ugh, you may be right. I guess the only way to know is to try it and see... :(

OK, thanks. I was worried about the same, wendow. I will activate this one after DH gets home this afternoon just in case, since he only carries 1 card on him.:headache: We will use both this weekend for our experiment, but that makes sense how SFF mentioned they send you new cards prior to old expiring and both work.

His was issued recently due to having left his card at a restaurant...maybe 3 months ago. I will let ya'll know how it goes this weekend. Plastic card idea is good...never knew they existed.

I'd wait until the AF posts (and your anniv RR points are in your account), and then call and tell them you are not using the card much, and ask if there is a retention offer on your account. In my case, the offer wasn't good enough so I closed the card. I hate calling too but it really was pretty painless.

I would call. The southwest cards seem to get fee waivers a lot and if it gets waived then maybe you can refer your DH. When I called I just asked if there were any retention offers on my account. For both cards I got offered a statement credit. It was a quick call.

I had this situation earlier this year - Booked for Universal thru Costco Travel - rec'd my $300 travel credit. Then 2 months later a good AP deal came up and I cancelled the Costco Booking and booked direct (using a different card).

No impact on my CSR $300 Travel credit - tho I did have other travel spend on the card that could have taken the place of the canceled booking.

This is nice to hear! I know I will charge more than $300 total for travel on the CSR during the year, I am just not sure when it will be since flights for my Oct and Dec trips are booked and deposits are already placed on all the rooms. I had planned on using accumulated Disney Gift Cards to pay the remaining balance on the rooms, but I could always throw a minimum $300 to play it safe before applying the cards I have.

I wish I had entered the game sooner. I booked over $1,000 in airfare in the past two months. Live and learn!

My recent Amazon replacement card came in with a new exp date as well. They have always been identical to the card being replaced before. They may be on to something.

ETA: It was also "damaged"

Ok. So, few questions about this:

The CIP seems pretty straight-forward. But after I've satisfied it's conditions, can I then start to try to double-dip the CSR and CSP? And is 8,000 spent "in the first 3 months"? Total or 8,000 each?

It sounds like, after all the conditions have been met on all three, the CSR is the one I want to do my spending on moving forward, yes? Because of the 1.5 points per point.
Welcome! It looks like people have already answered your questions but you have so much time to plan that you will be able to get the whole trip for free! Maybe even move the trip earlier to use all your points:yay:.
I just wanted to add my quick DP to show how easy and exciting this game is! I did the double dip on May and completed my MRS for the CSR in July so I got mine 54000URs. I also transferred the 3000URs from CSP to my CSR.
I called chase tour dept on July 20th and bought 1 adult + 1 child 7 days magic your way tickets and used 54671URs.
So I really just got 2 free tickets to Disney by doing my regular spend (daycare, gas, groceries)!!! Yes I did pay the $450 CSR annual fee but I got $300 travel credit that I used for a free weekend at Cape Cod. So really got the tickets for $150 but I still have the 50000URs from my CSP that will post next week!!! So I could get 4 7day Disney tickets for free!:dogdance:
But since you have time in your favor you may get even better deals! I had to get my tickets ASAP because my 60day is tomorrow and need to book fast passes!
Sorry I did not meant to right such a long post!:worried:

I feel dumb asking this after so long... but is there a way to narrow gift cards on Amazon down to third party so I can start doing that?

You can use Amazon gift card credit to buy any other gift card on Amazon, except another Amazon gift card and VGCs.

Yep, it does make sense. Hopefully that is what is going on! I don't eat out much so it wouldn't be a huge loss to me to not have the extra card but I know for some, it's a big deal.

Same here, at least currently. I can't leave for lunch so I'm stuck with the vending machine if I don't bring something (which does code 3x points but takes Samsung Pay ;)), but DH eats out at least once a week so I don't think we'll ever cancel his CSR at this point. Outside of work we're almost always together when eating out anyways. But I hope it continues as a workaround for @disneymagicgirl and others!

Just for fun I spent (wasted) some time fantasizing today about what I would do with 1,000,000 URs. What would you (potentially) do with a million URs?

I went onto Chase.com to do a scenario and came up with this option:

Spring break trip to WDW:
4 UAL Premium Economy round trip EWR to MCO = 264,104 points
AKL standard view room 1 8 nights = 346,040
AKL standard view room 2 8 nights = 346,040

Total = 956,184

Booked with cash through the Chase portal this would be 15k.
