i am totally with you on US and the Wizarding World! I think their light show on the Hogswarts Castle is awesome! We had annual passes that expired in June and I am totally missing them and Portofino!

I haven't seen the regular light show but did get there at the beginning of December and saw the Christmas one. Amazing!!

We did Banff, Lake Louise and Calgary in April thanks to the Amex Platinum. I used my 100,000 MR bonus to get our flights. We did Yoho NP in British Columbia and Banff in Alberta. Didn’t get to Jasper, though. Don’t miss Lake Louise. Stayed at the Fairmont thanks to Chase.

Canadian Rockies blow the US Rockies out of the water.
OOOOH. I didn't it possible but I am now even more excited! Our itinerary is to stay 2 nights at Lake Louise (not the Fairmont, started too late to this points game for this year), then drive IceFields Parkway, 2 nights Japser, drive back to Banff for 2 nights before heading to Glacier for a week.

So, y'all got me pricing more cruises. I found a RC 5-night W Caribbean in early Dec for $207pp ($1770 total). Is that for real!?! Is that a nice time to visit the Caribbean, or is it a bit chilly?

My aunt loves RC but has anyone here taken RC? Is this a good deal? Sure seems like it. Goes out of Ft Lauderdale.

I would just have to check my dd18's college schedule to see when she is done and decide how much of our activities and co-op classes my others can miss.

Yeah it can be for real. But make sure to add in gratuities (https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/onboard-service-gratuity-expense) per person/per day too. I'm not familiar with RC from experience, but in general westerns are usually cheaper than eastern caribbean, and you sometimes get the older ships on the short routes. There's nothing wrong with either, just be sure to look into the amenities of the ship before you book. They usually show the brand new ships with the obstacle courses, zip lines, wave boards, etc etc etc on the commercials, but not all of the older ships have as many of the activities like they show. As for temps, I don't believe it would be chilly. That's the beauty of the Caribbean sea is it's fairly consistent year round. I haven't done western/mexico , but we've done Bahamas/eastern in nov, dec and Jan and air temps were in the 80's and had no trouble swimming. Peak season for the Caribbean is Dec - April (or maybe may) as all the cold folks look for warmer spaces :)

I actually loved paper FPs in WDW and DL. I loved being the FP runner and collecting them for everyone.

The only time that DH and I went to DL, he had a work meeting during the day so I went to the parks solo. I went on a bunch of rides, but I also collected 2 FPs for so many rides. I would run back and forth between the two parks since you could pull more FPs that way. When DH met up with me that evening, I pulled out my stack of FPs and we walked on everything. Such a fun memory!
We could never get the passes in both parks. Every time we tried it wouldn’t work. Got frustrated and gave up.

@wendow - ok - in my honest opinion, with your kids, if the ship is Majesty of the Seas - I would pass. It is a small, older ship and you won't get the same great experience for families that the larger ships provide.

However, I notice there are some 4 and 5 day itineraries out of Fort Lauderdale on Independence of the Seas. We have sailed her twice and love that ship. Your family would have a blast I'm sure. Even if a few $$ extra or a day less, I would save some extra money to be able to sail Indy over Majesty any day.

Just my 2c.

You could try to email mileageplusx-agent@united.com with your issue. Warning, it can take them as long as a week to get back to you.

Sadly I needed to email them today. My account is now getting the error message, and this time my card was charged. And I lost out on over 300 points since I could not use the app. I may delete it. As good as it is when I earn the points, it is very frustrating when it does not work.

That sounds amazing. We only had one week so couldn’t do as much! It was also dead of winter in late March/early April. Snowed at least 10 inches. Make sure you bring layers...even though it’s summer, it gets cold at night there. Be prepared to be wowed by the scenery. The drive from Calgary is boring but once you get into Banff NP..omg. The drive from Banff to Jasper is even better..

Can you change your regular Disney credit card to the premier or do you need to apply again? I just got the regular one and probably should have gotten the premiere. I hate the thought of a annual fee but I think we can make up the difference in rewards fairly quickly.

You do not need to apply again. If you can wait a bit they will send you an offer to upgrade it (Disney Reward money added to your account). If you don’t want to wait I would call them and ask if there is an upgrade offer available to you.

Thanks I will wait it out. I should have gotten this card years ago. But I use discover IT the problem with that one is I don't always remember to activate the extra rewards. I got the Disney signature card.

This is a pretty comprehensive list of the reasons I love Disney :rotfl2: It’s driving DH and I crazy that we can’t book FP in advance for DL. Even for Maxpass, DH was like “we can’t even plan our day until we’re in the park!” DH actually really did not enjoy our 2016 DL trip in part because of the fact that you still had to run to get FP. I probably wouldn’t have gotten him back to the park at all except there’s Pixarfest going on. I don’t think it’s not that we’re fun people, it’s just that my limit to spontaneity is park hopping from HS to Epcot :rotfl:

I tried really hard to get us back to Disneyland this last trip instead of WDW and not having the Fastpass plus was a bonus for me. lol I hadn't used it yet, just on principal, didn't like it. I just couldn’t get cheaper flights there. Though we loved the paper passes when you could collect them all morning and use them at night. I think my DH liked to run for the passes as breaks from the kids. Haha. When they started enforcing the times it wasn’t as great. Another reason I love Universal, no planning needed. Just go to the parks and ride whatever you want whenever you want. No FP needed, no planning anything in advance needed. Though I guess I am paying for it in my hotel room costs.

Shocking to you probably, but the ADRs don't make a difference to me too much. I would rather eat a churro or a mickey bar than sit down and eat at a restaurant. I’m pretty cheap, so combination of too much money and wastes too much time. Though, my DS wanted Chef Mickeys this trip because he remembered it from our last trips. Two months out and I could not get a breakfast for any of our 6 days. I wasn't too upset because it is so darn expensive, I offered to take him to a Shoneys breakfast buffet instead. :rotfl: I did manage to get a Crystal Palace breakfast though and he about made himself sick trying to get our $$s worth. lol I guess I have taught him to be cheap like me.

oh my gosh I just spent 20 mins of my life on the phone with UR trying to book disney. The poor guy is clueless. He can't get any of the resort to pull up. Then he gets some sort of concierge person to try and he can book it but not with URs. Huh? I could do that online myself. Finally I just said forget it and I will call cruise and tours tomorrow. I guess I will pretend to be DH since they wanted to speak to him for permission to speak to me tonight. :badpc: Why can't they just fix their computer system so the resorts show up again!?

ETA: Pop is on hotwire for $88/night next weekend if anyone needs a disney fix.

What's the best strategy to apply for the SW Business and SW Premier cards? Apply for both on the same day? Spaced 30 days apart? Spaced 3 months apart? (making sure that all the points post early in the year to maximize the Companion Pass, of course). I've got everything with my CIP set up and now just have to wait for my organic spend to work through the MSR, so now I'm kind of twiddling my thumbs over here and looking to the next step in The Plan...

do not do this. we took amtrak from pdx to san jose one time. my husband said we were never riding the train again. for some reason that route is not like the other ones in the states. it is consistantly late. we were 4 hours late one way and 7 hours late on the return trip. ugh.

thanks... kinda expect it being late already(took amtrak to SD, was 45 mins late)... we just wanted to check out the view from LA-->Seattle... was the late being the reason u dont recommend or is there something else too?

I will probably do late Oct and late Nov and do the biz first. Visa MSRs are easy, so I will have to just remember not to meet the spend early, esp with Christmas.

according to my other group, to get the 50k SW Premier card, u have to sign up while in flight... im not sure if thats the only way.

Alaska removing their 3 lounges at Sea-Tac from Priority Pass on the day I leave for SFO is really messing up my next two trips. I was planning breakfast at the Alaska lounge because I'm flying them so it'd be closer to my gate. Now I've got two options with The Club which I wasn't overly impressed with in May. It'll be good enough to run in and grab a snack before my red eye in Nov at least. Maybe I can get some cereal or something to eat quick/take with me. It'll either just be a really long walk or I'll have to use the subway to get to my gate. Maybe I'll luck out and Alaska will upgrade me to 1st and I can use their lounge that way (haha, I only have basic status with them. Too bad using their card isn't worth it for everyday, not that I'd spend enough for status).

I know they often blocked PP from accessing the lounges but I figured an almost 7am flight on a Saturday and a red eye on a Thursday would have gotten me in due to lack of travelers leaving. At least there's still something here as opposed to SFO and their one lounge in the international gates.

Hmmm.....that sounds like a great excuse to fly to visit my family this Christmas rather than drive 10 hours each way!
