I love credit cards so much!

Yikes. I read months ago (can't remember where) in regards to chase shutdowns to "not ***t where you eat" and they were referring to banking and churning both at Chase. Maybe that is or isn't the problem, but I have remembered it, though I was recently tempted to do a chase bank bonus, I found another for now.

DD19 and I are trying out Coronado Springs for a quick weekend trip. It was 11k points/night on the UR portal with CSR. Last year we did POFQ off Hotwire. I just can't bring myself to pay for deluxe since we won't be spending time at the resort. When we do long trips we build in resort days so then I do deluxe.
I actually did look at Coronado since we’ve never stayed there but it costs more than pofq. We definitely won’t be doing deluxe because we are doing bc in October. We will have a lot of resort time though so I’m leaning towards pofq instead of an all star.

Is there anything I need to know about hitting Amex cards? Like 1/30 or 5/24 for Chase? I’m going to apply a card at the end of the month. Depending on how the new SPG card looks I might want that in August? Any issues about hitting Amex business cards too fast?

You can only get 2 credit cards in 90 days. Charge cards don’t count. One bonus per lifetime and you can only hold five credit cards at a time.

My daughter was just recently able to get a sixth in June. However, when she was getting her fifth card, she was told to close one to open another. That's the day she closed the SPG personal and called to reopen it after I told her it now had a free night. Not sure which she ended up closing. I 'think' the fifth ap was the Mercedes Benz Plat that got discontinued,(if I remember correctly) and the 6th was a Hilton card. So Amex's 5 card rule is not written in stone and it also might depend on what card you are looking at. She has all credit, no charge.

She also just got the Citi AA card for the miles. She had applied for something with Chase, thinking she was under 5/24 and they came back with 7/24, lol! She had obviously forgotten a few accounts. Right now she is working on miles for a Spain trip later this year and she hit the avios deal quite hard, and also a trip to Grand Cayman.

For you SW pros, should we expect the next release of dates near the end of July? I’m looking at dates for end of March.
Also do UR -> SW transfer instantly or is there a delay?

I transfer to SW all the time. Sometimes it's instant, sometimes there's been a delay for up to an hour or so. Drives me crazy when trying to book something.

I get that. Just not sure how I feel about reserving those seats in hopes of getting the whole aisle to yourselves. Doesn’t seem right to me.

The middle seat is still open. They aren't telling someone they can't sit there. And if you go to select seats as the plane fills up, all you are going to see are middle seats. They can book whichever seats they want, even 2 aisle seats or two window seats.

Has anyone used travel insurance? If so, what happens when you pay for a trip with, let’s say UR’s? If you have to cancel the trip for a covered reason do they reimburse you by sending you a check?

If the plane is empty, there will be plenty of seats and others who did the exact same thing and they will be happy. If the plane is full, that middle seat will be taken and the person who lucks out on the unexpected aisle seat you give them will be very happy. Good Karma :flower3: That is how I see it.

I see it differently, a single traveler may be missing out on a seat toward the front because they think it’s taken when it’s actuakky being “held” by someone who doesn’t plan on sitting there

I realize they can book wherever they want. But booking seats with the intention of switching with someone doesn’t seem right to me. Just my opinion.

I’ve canceled two disney trips paid with ur. One they sent a check and the other ur credited back. I just said we had to change our dates due to school schedule released and it was different from what I thought it would be and needed to cancel.

Is the Chase United Explorer card subject to 5/24? Is there a better bonus than 40,000 points?

Ugh, I just can't decide which card to do now. DHs car is $1700 and goes in TOMORROW, so I need something expedited.... my car is $1950 but I have to call tomorrow to see when it can go in. So $3650 total...

I don’t know about upgrades but I have to ask...what happens if they sit someone between you?? I fly quite a bit and planes are always full. I’m assuming you’re hoping the person will switch seats with

Yes, hoping the person switches with us. But given how empty the plane looks like right now, I’m finding it unlikely it will be full. I see there are several other rows that look similar to ours while there are still multiple full rows available, so I’m thinking multiple couples have probably done this.

If the person doesn’t want to switch... well... I’m loud and DH has described me as “abrasive, at best” so they’ll probably regret their decision 5 hours later when I lean over them for the 76th time to tell DH show excited I am to go to DL :rotfl2:

If the middle seat goes empty I have no intention of actually sitting there. We'd each sit in the window and aisle seat we chose. Personally, I thought most people do the same. It's only if that middle seat is selected when one of us would offer to switch and then one's in the middle and the other the window (unless the other person wants the window instead of aisle, I've seen that happen) If the person really wants their middle seat, then we'd still be sitting in the window and aisle seat we chose. Depending on the plane, I'd rather be window/aisle even with a stranger in between so we wouldn't offer anyway in that case.

I could be wrong now with the increase in travel hacking and more savvy travelers, but generally I don't think this was a wide spread practice. Usually if you see window and aisle seats taken in a row it's single travelers. Many of my solo business flights I picked the row with only one seat taken in the hopes of getting an empty middle. I actually chose a row a little further back to increase the chances of getting it empty since normally if you're going to get stuck in the middle you're going to pick the further front/near exit to speed deplaning since that's about the only good thing you'd have going for you on the flight. Likewise I think auto seat selections from the airline start front to back. Depending on how popular the route I was about 50% successful with the strategy. And I didn't really see people swapping seats so everyone sat in the seat they selected unless it was a flight attendant doing some maneuvering.
If I want to be further up the plane I always have the choice of picking a middle seat. Or asking the FA to move if I see an empty aisle seat because a duo decided to sit window/middle when they selected window/aisle. To each their own, but when solo travelling it hasn't really affected me so I don't consider it a big deal.

On the window/middle/aisle seat issue I would just say that I have no idea what United does (or other airlines) but Delta fills in those seats with Basic Economy. Even if they look empty Delta flights are almost always full. Seems to me airlines will cancel flights or fill with standby rather than leave mostly empty these days. Might just be me but I would rather be separated from spouse for a while then be stuck in the middle. Someone who didn’t want to pay as much or use as many miles can have the middle seat! My big pet peeve is when people buy basic economy and then expect to still be close to travel partners. But that’s another discussion I guess. :)

I’m flying basic economy on Delta this December. Might end up paying the couple extra bucks to choose seats though since I’m flying with my mom and she’s a nervous flyer.

Pretty sure there’s no basic economy fares on this United flight though. I didn’t see that as an option, and I was immediately given the option to choose our seats when I purchased. If somebody ends up in our middle seat, I’ll ask to switch with them so I can used DH to sleep on :rotfl2:

Dh and I always book the window and middle seat. We don’t really care if someone sits next to us. Normally they don’t talk to us anyway. We’ve even had people ask to move to a row with no one in it. That was a weird situation because I wondered why they didn’t book it in the first place unless it wasn’t an option.

I believe the Sheraton Lounge access with the SPG Biz goes through the end of this month, is that correct? I was reading up on it and it said they should know based on your SPG number linked to your CC (though I know many here had issues getting lounge access), but what I am wondering is if we use DHs SPG number can we still get it? His account is where we are trying to get to 50 nights and the SPG biz is in my name. Does that make sense? Wondering if we can still get lounge access. Still have my $60 off $300 offer on my card and we spent $234 at the Swan. Have a $85 room booked so will effectively be $25 for the night!
