I love credit cards so much!

Wow. So sorry about your week! Hope things get better and you have a great remaining vacation. Was this room just for one night? Hope it wasn’t for the whole week.
Just our room for tonight on the way to Myrtle Beach.

In Princeton WV (since you are the WVmom haha)

Dude, are you driving to Myrtle Beach? Don’t you have like a million Southwest miles? Fly!
Haha only 600,000 SW points. Let’s not exaggerate ;) SW doesn’t fly to Myrtle and it’s only a 10 hour drive. Plus we can bring all kinds of beach stuff in our van which makes it cheaper then buying it all.

Still a car rental newbie...
National I know gives unlimited miles, can I rent a car in Texas and drive it to Missouri and back? My van is on the older side and I hate it for road trips.

Guys...my week has not gotten better. After my basement flood...and my 3 trips to different Home Depots to purchase a sump pump (they sold me a broken one twice...can’t remember if I shared that sorry of wasting 6+ hours)...Tonight takes the cake...

Apparently the Fairfield Inn I was staying at tonight had a glitch where when I checked in on the App it only transferred my name and email but not my phone # or credit card. They sent me an email at 8:30 giving me 30 minutes to respond or they would cancel my room. When I showed up at 9:30...it was cancelled. They DID NOT cancel the room in my wife’s name because she didn’t check in via the app. (That room was for my sister in laws family).

I can’t even begin to type what occurred over the next hour in that lobby...but I can tell you that they DID NOT provide me (a gold elite member with 1.3million pts) a room tonight. The GM spoke to me on the phone and didn’t even apologize...after prodding they found me a room at a “Quality” Inn about 20 miles away (yes it is “Quality” for a reason ;)). He then told me it was my responsibility to pay for it. I’ll have to provide some addition commentary later on some of the more hilarious portions of this exchange (including the GM saying to me on the phone “I work a 9-5 just like you”...). Also we were told to grab anything from the snack shop by the person at the desk so me and the kids grabbed about $100 worth of stuff LOL! There’s more but it’s late...

I placed a long call to Marriott tonight. I got my free night cert back (good for a year from today) Plus 25,000 points.

The best part is we are going to drive back to the Fairfield tomorrow for breakfast to meet up with sis in law. WOW...Just WOW...what a night, what a week!

I always get a little worried when we are arriving late to any hotel, but we've so far never had an issue with any hotel canceling us. But, 9:30 isn't even late. That is just insane.

I haven't had much time in the past week to follow and post in this thread too. So here's my poor attempt to catch up.

@SouthFayetteFan: I'm so sorry to read about the flooding. :grouphug: I hope your upcoming trips help you take your mind off. Because isn't why we churn so that we can enjoy awesome vacations and the memories they make with our families?

@MrPTato: Love the avatar change! Is that your DD? The look on her face!

@Artygal90: I'm sorry to read about the bad news. On business apps, I'd usually suggest don't calling in and only checking the automated status line. But there's no telling if that would've led to approval or the same denial. @gottalovepluto has already given you a lot of great advice and comfort, but denials happen and you don't really know why until you get the letter. Even then, Chase might list vague, boilerplate reasons for the denial. But do wait for the letter before calling in again, so then you'll be on better footing to argue for reconsideration.

@SBWB48: Wishing you a great weekend here in San Francisco, and a wonderful trip out west in California!

Thanks @Lain! Had a great arrival day, minus the 1.15 hour Uber ride from OAK to Hyatt Regency in the Embarcadero. That toll plaza at the bridge is no joke and we arrived at an off hour (11:50 arrival). Didn’t get to check out the Club lounge at BWI cause DH was being a stinker about going through security twice despite us being nearly 2 hours early :sad1: (he’s paranoid about missing flights; told him the centurion lounge at SFO is non-negotiable and I will leave him at the SW terminal and go myself if he insists on not doing security twice even with pre-check o_O) or the Escape lounge since we were paranoid about luggage.

Went to the Giants game in perfect weather (gosh why can’t we have clear skies and zero humidity in MD lol) and got to walk through the Ferry building for a bit. Will be checking out the Farmer’s Market this morning and then off to explore!

@Lain needs to update his spreadsheet :lmao:

So I priced out (the best I could) a multi-city award ticket on Delta going CVG - CDG CDG - BCN BCN - CVG. For two people, that came out to 178,000 skypesos and about $175 in taxes. This is a mix of coach and Delta comfort. My husband freaked out about that and said how much is cash. Same route in cash is $5,225. He then freaked out about THAT. :rolleyes2

My scenario above is May pricing because next August obviously isn't open yet. But I have to be nailing down my plan here pretty soon.

RT CVG to BCN coach is 180,000 miles (in May) and about $100 in fees.

So either I'm doing something wrong or the multi-city trip is a banging deal. Has anyone done a multi-city award booking on Delta before?

Trying to decide if I want to jump into this credit card game. I'm already in it partially, but while I'm thinking about it all (been reading, lurking for a while now), maybe someone can answer a question. I'm confused about authorized users counting towards my 5/24 with Chase. Does that mean me being AU on someone else's account, or others being an AU on my accounts? Or both perhaps?

If you are applying for a card, and you are an au on someone's account, it will be counted towards your 5/24.

:welcome:

Chase has a so-called 5/24 rule, which denies you for "too many recent accounts" if your credit report shows you've opened 5 or more credit card accounts in the past 24 months.

The question is what counts as an open credit card account?

Chase's automated system will check your credit report and count all the cards that appear on it that have been opened in the past 24 months. It doesn't differentiate between a card opened in your name or a card on which you're only an authorized user. So say your spouse is the primary cardholder, but made you an authorized user, and that card was opened within the last 24 months, then that AU card counts against your 5/24. If you are an AU on a card that's older than 24 months, you don't need to worry about it because Chase doesn't count that far back.

5/24 counts what cards you are the primary or AU on, not how many AUs you have on your cards.

If AU accounts do put you over 5/24, there are ways to get them removed. Chase is easy. Have the primary cardholder secure message Chase to remove you as an AU. Once removed, you can message Chase to remove reference of the AU from your credit reports on the basis you're no longer an AU and you've never been and are not financially responsible for the charges on that card. Or you could submit a dispute directly with the credit bureaus. Amex is hard and won't remove AUs from credit reports if you're a spouse of the primary cardholder.

Some store cards don't count against 5/24, but store cards issued by a bank like the Target REDcard issued by TD Bank will likely show on your credit report and count against 5/24.

Most business credit cards, particularly from Amex and Chase don't count against 5/24 because the issuer doesn't report business cards to personal credit bureaus. However, in the case of Chase, you do have to be under 5/24 to be approved for most of their business cards. Each issuer has different rules for approval. 5/24 is a strictly Chase rule.

It's a good idea to pull your credit report to see what cards appear on it that would count against 5/24. CreditKarma is a free way for you to check what cards are on your credit reports and when you opened them. If an account (primary or AU) shows up and you count them as opened for less than 24 months, Chase will count them against 5/24.

downvote for the WOC dessert party...worst money I ever spent..... for the best show ever tho so I'm ok lol. Just saying the DP was ridiculous and I'd never advise it, but the show.... wow.
Have to a admit you’re one of the first I’ve seen to not rave about it. Mind if I ask why? (Admittedly I did a very unkind review of it when it first started but Disney fixed my main gripe so now I’m in the omg I love it group- always want to hear other perspectives though because it is a fairly common event people ask about on the DL board).

Craziness! 30 mins? They can't call you over their issue? Ugh.

Maybe you could pitch your story to a sitcom for extra compensation? ;)

We got back from HHI last night and are trying to figure out when we can return! @Judique we never did make it to A Low Country Backyard this trip. It was SO HOT on Thursday and the thought of sitting outside in the backyard area wasn't that appealing to us. We opted for pool time post-naps and then cooking in our villa instead.

@SouthFayetteFan I'm sorry about your basement and the mishap at the Fairfield Inn. I hope the rest of the vacation goes smoothly!

I don’t know how you put up with them for an hour and kept your cool! You know about the Ultimate Reservation Guarantee? https://www.marriott.com/marriott-rewards/member-benefits/guarantee.mi

I would consider hitting up Marriott again when you feel up to it. Would you rather have 25,000 Marriott points and your free night cert back or $100 and the Quality hotel cost covered? If you’d rather the later.... You didn’t cancel the res, “for some reason” the hotel was unable to honor your reservation (“for some reason” is literally the words in their guarantee, an IT glitch at the Marriott hotel certainly sounds like it covers that) so imho you are fully entitled* to their promised $100 for your inconvenience AND being fully reimbursed for the cost to spend the night at the other hotel. Maybe they make you return the Cert & 25k points though (although considering the condescending and insulting things the staff and manager said to you they ought to at least leave you with the points!)

*as long as your Marriott Rewards number was on the stay

I'm planning a trip to Tokyo Disneyland for my 60th in September 2019. The Hilton Tokyo Bay seems like the more reasonable of the options. What would be the best card to get to earn Hilton points? I already have the Southwest visas (plus and premier) to get me to the West Coast from Boston. Then Alaska airlines to get me to Hawaii. DVC points to stay at Aulani. My husband will need a few days to recover from the flights before we fly to Japan. Cash to get me from Honolulu to Tokyo. All suggestions are welcome!
