I love credit cards so much!

So as is my usual SW opening day experience, flights to SoCal are ridiculous for December. I am not even looking at a holiday, just wanted to do Dec in DL as some here suggested. I'm not discouraged though, will keep watching and in true SW fashion, they will drop. SW is basically Kohl's, a pricing model that makes me crazy.:sad2:
Are you booking using SW points or paying cash?

If I add DD as an AU on our CSP, would I be able to transfer UR points to her RR account? She has points but I need to add more to book a flight.

Looking at flights for my DD to come home from college for Christmas on SW. Flying from Chicago to Pit it is 1 hour 20 min direct flight. Or she could connect in Atlanta or Orlando or other goofy places! lol Do people really buy these flights?? Also forgot I have no SW points.:sad: Will have to look to see if DH has some I can raid.

I don't think intentionally anymore, unless there's like a long layover. Since flights aren't based on miles it'd be a silly way to rack up points :) Most times it's a backup or desperation purchase. Back aways I had to do PHL to Cincinnati, USAir had one or two direct flights for like an hour duration, but most of their flights went through their hub in NC. So I naturally booked the direct flights but coming back on the last trip there was a plane maintenance issue and they canceled the flight and my only option was the NC connection. Go figure there were plenty of seats available to get us all changed to that one :) With the plane change and layover I think I could have driven it in the same time as the whole trip, but somehow that was cost effective for them.
My FIL just did a crazy one on SW a couple months ago to avoid a storm. PHL-MCO by way of MDW and I think ATL. About 12 hours for a 2ish hour trip but he got there. I was looking at PHL to STL and I think one of the options took me to one of the Florida airports first. (If I did that one I'm not sure I'd get back on the plane :P) I'm always shocked at some of the routings they dream up but I guess it's better to have it on the books as back up than try to invent one later.

@disneymagicgirl The good thing is this time my Ally to Discover transfer only took a day! It says it's not available until June 5th, but it's showing in the account so I don't care

Yeah I justified the AP with "well we saved 75k SWA points in this trip....." then it was "well I moved the BB/Dining offer from Disney to Chase and saved........" to justify the October trip.... By then I was already getting the look, I attempted another but lets just say it was only hypothetically speaking. :rotfl2:
I'm just over here trying to justify APs again...

for the PPoptions like gyft and swytch and raise, are you getting gc at a discount,or juts getting them for extra points on PP purchase?

With gyft and swytch, it's only the extra 3x (CIP) and 5x (CIC) through PP; no further discounts. The reason I prefer Raise (mobile app) is because the GCs are discounted AND I can use PP as the checkout option for 5x this quarter on the CF. If they run a sale, which happens often, it's another 5-10% off on that of the GC discount + PP CF option.

Good idea! I do have it. I've used the online check in but never the check out, so I'll have to look at it when we stay at a Marriott before this one. I'm glad @jhoannam told me about this because I had no clue!

Has anyone used online check-in before for Hyatt? I see it's an option for the Hyatt Regency in SF we are staying at and I believe Hyatt House at DL as well, but never used, so not sure how easy it is to use? @amalone since you were just there recently :) ?

I think I'm going to also pull the trigger on cat 6/100k flights. I just figured out I could make it pay for a spring break for DH and my kids to visit his parents - I can't travel then, due to work stuff, but it would be good for them to be able to go. Trying to decide between Alaska and American for airline- Alaska is supposed to be good for partner award travel, but they don't fly much out of our local airport. Oh, decisions decisions!

I booked SW for our December DL trip this morning. I'm happy with the outgoing flight time, but I was really surprised to see only one flight from SNA to BDL on the day of our return. I've never seen less than two, and there are usually three options. This makes me nervous, because we fly through Denver. In December. If there's a weather issue, we're sort of outta luck. I'm glad I jumped on it first thing this morning though, because with only one flight I imagine it will fill up. The fare was $229 /14,948 each way, which isn't terrible, especially with the CP for DH's ticket. I'll keep checking for price drops, but that seems pretty fair. A pretty fair fare.

Nope, I do not. Like, not even a little bit of anything that would qualify as a business, but I have seen you guys talk about the Chase Ink Preferred all over the place!

I’d start with the sapphire double dip (CSR/CSP) since you have a lot of spend coming up. This requires 8k in spend in three months. You have to apply for both cards on the same day and get approved. So apply for the card you want most first then once you get approved apply for the other. If you can do more than 8k in three months, I’d wait and then refer your DH to both.

I would suggest you double dip the CSR and CSP. This means apply for both on the same day. We can give you further directions on it if you are interested. You will get 100k chase ultimate rewards points for $8k spend in 3 months. You will be able to redeem these points for 1.5x value with the CSR. The only way you can have both of these cards at the same time is to open both the same day. Thats why we suggest the double dip.

I would then refer your DH to the same 2 cards. You will get 20k points for the referral plus he gets the 100k points as well. You will have another 3 months to spend the $8k. So you want to try and space them out to have him app when you are almost done with the $8k on your cards. Doesn't sound like it will take you long.

Another idea is a CIP card, which is an 80k sign up bonus. Either or both of you could open one of those before the double dip if you wish. As a newbie I was scared of biz cards and had to warm up to the idea. That is why I suggested the CSR/CSP DD first, but you could flip the order if you wish. Do you have any side gigs you could consider as biz? Mine is selling crap from around my house on facebook. lol. it is a "business" as we tenderly call them.

Welcome to the group! And ask the experts here before you make any moves. It is easy to make a mistake. I've been at this probably 6 months now and I still ask before I do anything. :)

It is a top favorite around here, especially after we dig deep within our recent experiences and remember that thing we sold on ebay, or that stuff we mean to sell on ebay... yes, it's a fine line when we get into our "businesses" but it works for most of us. That said, it's not for everyone. We do have a couple people who absolutely will not go the business card route without what they feel is a completely legit business and that's totally fine. We each do what we're comfortable with :) Now, fwiw imho you can claim a business with your remodeling. You remodeled a house (reasons don't matter) and now you are selling it. That's a business transaction. Did you intend to make money off of it by remodeling it? yes? That's literally business. You are definitely a candidate for the CIP for your re-modeling business. That said it's just imho and only you can determine if you're cool with running with that idea. Most of us come around to being cool with it, but like I said no everyone and that's ok.

wow, it looks like you have lots of expenses coming up and you're both 1/24- excellent place to be (minus the flood part of course, so you definitely deserve something great after all you've gone through!). (The Double Dip allows you to skirt Chase's one Sapphire card per person rule)
-CSR/CSP Double Dip, total result: $8k spend for 100,000 URs, $65 in fees (if you use the $85 tsa pre-check on the csr), can redeem URs at 1.5x
-CIP: $5k spend, 80,000 URs, $95 fee

Super tempting to get all of them for each of you but imho that's a bad idea due to Chase shutdowns. I'd pick whichever you want most and do that first and then in a couple months go for the other one.

There is something else you should consider since you'll be in 2 player mode. Referral bonuses!!! CIP offers 20,000 UR per referral and CSP and CSR both offer 10,000 per referral so if P1 were to get cards and then refer P2 to the same cards you're looking at...
Double Dip: $16k spend for 220,000, $130 in fees (if you use the 2 tsa pre-checks on the CSRs)
CIP: $10k spend, 180,000 URs, $190 in fees

Much to think about I'm sure that will keep your head swimming :) I can't delve into Amex for you because my knowledge there is super limited so I can't say for certain these are "the best" for you but others here have Amex experience!

Hi guys, I'm back! It's been while since I've logged on and finally been able to respond....sorry for the delay... For reference, I only have one card right now and I think I applied for that in 2015. We close on our new house tomorrow and are one week out from listing our hurricane house so I figured that today was the best day to apply for these cards? I logged into my Chase account to look around and check my balance and damn... Chase has upped my credit limit (without asking me) to $32k. Will this prevent me from applying for the CSP and the CSR today? Also, do I need to do this during business hours and on different browsers once I am approved for the first one (assuming that I will be approved, but now a bit worried since they upped my credit limit.. sigh).

Thank you in advance for the help - hoping 100% of everything that we do and purchase for both hurricane house and the new house can be put on credit cards!!

I def would not apply for anything until AFTER your new house closes. Do NOT apply before.

SW has cut the number or daily fliggts from BDL to MCO as well. There used to be three direct options. :-( I wonder if they are pulling back from BDL accross the board?

Man, I hope not!!! It's not always the most optimal option, but with all of my RR and the CP it's been a dream for us.

Just wanted to give a DP on my PNC bank funding. I sent $5,000 from Paypal and it did post as a DD! It was also great that I could fund $2000 to help with my CSR MSR. I still need to do the 10 debit transactions, but so far it looks like an easy $300! This is my first one so I'm excited! @speedyfishy, I can do the .50 amazon reloads for the 10 debit transactions, correct?

Yeah that’s what I did.

They aren't pulling our credit again. We spoke with them yesterday which is why I thought today would be good.
But I am hesitant to do it today -- so I share your thought process.

In theory you are probably good but I wouldn't risk it. The inquiry might show up today or could be tomorrow so you might get away with it even if they pull credit tomorrow but I'd be too nervous about it. Now, 5 minutes after the ink dries is a different story :)

IMO, the high credit limit should only be a factor if it's more than 50% of your income listed on your application. For CSR's they have been giving like 20-30K CL's so if your 32 plus a new 20 gets you higher than 60% it might not be instantly approved and you might have to call. In which case it seems like you have some credit to move around at least :)
When I got my CSR I was instantly approved for a crazy high limit (to me) so when I went for the CSP I got the screen at the end that asked if I wanted to include more income in the consideration, hehe. I said no and they still instantly approved me but for only 5k, which might be the minimum for that card. When I calculated it all out the new CL's added in now put me at 61% of the income I listed. So that seems to be an edge. But it's all just educated guesses, as always YMMV, and you could be surprised :) (I hope pleasantly)

I did two separate browser incognito windows (Chrome incognito, Firefox private) for my double dip and worked well. But you should be able to apply for one in a browser and then open an incognito/private window of the same browser. Just need to make sure they can't combine the session tracking information, so separate private windows or browsers or even devices works for that.

I may just be slow, but how do you actually buy a nights/flights on the marriott website? I go in (logged in) and "view" the offer I want. Its says there are 3 steps, choose quantity, then review order then something else. I seem to have chosen the quantity ok, but I can't get it to move to "review order". Help?

Reddit churning people...can you please translate this for me?View attachment 325787

I was looking for DPs on pushing mortgages through on plastiq. I can't figure out how to use the dang search tool over there :headache: but found this reply on the daily question thread. Another person said they sent theirs thru under another category...utility I think it was.

ETA: I understand setting it to "other" but what the heck does sent a snip mean? Sent a screen shot of their credit card statement?

I asked the redditor what quick snip he sent, and he followed up with this:

When they asked for the statement, I was in that lovely period of disappearing charges the Ink cards are famous for. Luckily, the blueprint spending tab still shows them, so I opened that tab, clicked spending, and the charge showed there. Grabbed a snipped screenshot, and sent that as my proof.

I'd definitely feel better about doing it tomorrow since a couple of you have backed up my hesitation. And it's not more than 50% of my income, but I really didn't want that increase!!

To be clear - CSR is Chase Sapphire Reserve and CSP is Chase Sapphire Preferred (the one with the $450 annual fee? gasp)?

Oh wow, we have never had any issue and we head somewhere warm every year. Usually south FL, which is why I am looking for somewhere new this year.

ETA: @DaveL My gyft purchases have all started going to pending again, so I am in your shoes now. So frustrating! It has happened probably the last 5 times. I ended up cancelling the purchase 4 of those 5 times.

I was finally able to buy a few cards last weekend w/out going to pending. I cannot buy any $250 amounts all those get auto denied, $100 amounts went to pending for 2~20hrs until I ordered 4 then last weekend I ordered a $100 and a $50 both were instant. I am done for awhile now, going to hit up a office store for cards on the CIC.
