I love credit cards so much!

I at least skimmed the pages I missed... :P

Today I checked where we're at on our Q2 spending:
  • Freedom $498, with another $400ish planned (probably tonight)
  • Discover 1 $525
  • Discover 2 $139
On the topic of hoarding points, I also hoard cashback.. I just realized that we've accumulated $400 in cashback on the Discover cards. :rolleyes1 I feel like I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting to see the next Freedom category... I definitely want to max out this Freedom category, and then maybe Discover, by floating some money for gas/groceries for the next few months. My only major plan right now is to try and see if DH can get that AMEX Platinum offer. Otherwise, I might have him get something else, or I'll get a business card, before his new vehicle registration - I think that fee is 2.5% here. It'd be nice to put it towards a MSR.

Is there an easy way to track your spend for the quarter with Discover?

This is my process:
  • log in to Discover
  • in a new tab, find DOCs post that has all of the different quarter categories for all cards
  • under Discover, he's got a link that tells you to the penny, and lists all of the transactions.
I should really just bookmark that link. I can't find it from the Discover page.

I'm not sure how others do it, but I just said I was calling because I saw that the AF posted on my account and while I liked having the card and was enjoying some of the benefits, it was still startling to see that high AF in black and white, so I was wondering if there was any retention offer eligible on my account. The rep was able to see that I'd used the airline fee credit, Uber credits, offers, etc. But he pretty quickly made the retention offer. He initially offered a $300 statement credit for the $4k spend which I interpreted as 30k MR, so when I asked for clarification, he said he could also offer me 30k MR, so I took that.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it violates some code of conduct to directly ask about a retention offer.

Hmmmm... so lowering my current Chase card limit at lunchtime isn't going to help my app tonight? Maybe I should have last week. Week. Planning the DD tonight.

It will not help for tonight. However, since you are going for personal cards, you can call and offer to move credit. I tried to decrease my dh's CL before applying for a biz card. He'd have to call recon and maybe defend his 'business' and there is just no way he would do that! So, I just decided to reapply a month later.

But maybe your CL is fine and you won't need to call at all. Good luck with the DD :)

Getting more excited that I booked the Hilton for our DL stay. I just got an email that there’s a double points promotion for this summer. Then I looked at the fine print and noticed that for July 1-31, it’s triple points if you’re a Hilton cardholder!! Since our stay is the 29-31, we should get triple points on our $250 base rate. If I’m doing the math right, we’ll then get an additional 80% on top of that for being Gold with our card (don’t know if they’ll do 80% on top of the triple rate or just the standard base rate), AND we’ll earn 12x Hilton points paying for it on our card!! This has turned into a fairly lucrative stay for only $250!

Sort of OT but really having a crappy day with the ex because according to angry texts messages from him I'm spoiling the kids and "trying to show them I have money." The truth is I don't "have money" (and he's never paid any support), I just manage my money well (including traveling on points). And I'm waiting on lab results from the vet on a growth removed from my fur baby last week.
So sorry about your crappy experience. And hope your fur baby is good.

If you are in 2-player mode, are there advantages to double dipping the CSR and CSP as opposed to one person getting CSR and the other getting CSP?

You know how I mentioned some people book SW flights just so they can access an airport lounge, then cancel?: Exhibit A
That is so funny! We live an hour from the airport so no way would I go there just for a free meal but we used Timberline twice and neither time did anyone ever ask for proof of a flight. Just asked what time we would board. You could easily abuse that.

I get the same thing. If you go to the 5% calendar page there's a status bar that tells you how much cash back you've earned in that quarter. Divide that number by .05 and that'll tell you how much of the 1500 you've spent so far. I just use the "View Calendar" link in the Cashback tile on the account summary page to get there.

Well, don't try it if you only have Priority Pass. Maybe Centurion is better about access. This is what my DH encountered at SEA today, his 2nd stop of a 3 stop flight to Fairbanks. Longggggg travel day for him. And this did not make him happy. This is after he had to fetch his luggage from baggage claim from his SW flight and recheck it into Alaska Airlines because they would not play nice with each other and switch it for him. That was a first for him but maybe that is common?

Unfortunately, Alaska is notorious for denying PP access to their lounges. It’s supposed to be limited to peak times, but I’ve seen too many negative DPs about their lounges at SEA, PDX, and LAX.
