I love credit cards so much!

How do they determine your eligibility for the PP lounge? I’m planning to cancel my CSR at the end of this month, but I just got a new PP card in the mail that doesn’t expire until 2021. Will I still be able to get into the lounges with that PP card, even if I cancel my CSR? I haven’t had a chance to use the lounge benefit yet so don’t know what they ask for/check.

My wife just PC'ed her CSR to a CF and received a new PP lounge card dated like 3~4yrs out at the same time. However I don't think it will work, it looked like they ran it just like a credit card on a terminal with signature if I remember right so it would prob just come back declined.

They run your PP through the system like a credit card so PP can keep track. Amex appears to be quick to cancel your PP membership Chase not as quick but with their new cost savings measures who knows? I recall DPs of people successfully using PPs after canceling/downgrading their CSR a while back but also speculation that Chase could charge your downgraded card for it- idk if that’s actually happened. I’d check FlyerTalk for recent DPs. (A cancelled PP is like a cancelled credit card, valid on the outside but not in practice after it gets cancelled on the issuers end.)

you can actually pay for an entire Disney trip ($3,000-$3,500) with the points you'd earn!

I am trying to follow suggestions but am confused. What is the difference between paying for Disney trip with my CIP directly vs going through Cruise & Tours. I have learned so much from y'all already and am very grateful.

Ugggggg..... so my DSIL wanted another CSP,and I had done a detailed writeup for her and her Dh to get the series of 'good' cards...... yesterday she went for the CSP for her DH with the 80k offer..... and didn't re-read my writeup!:scared: She had gotten her DH as AU on her card:scared: Then she applied for him yesterday, and put herself on the app as an AU:scared: and then couldn't figure out why she got the email "we're thinking about it".....
I'm guessing there's nothing she can do now except wait 31 days and go again....right? Unless he's out of the game for 24 months on this one now?:headache: because he's an AU on hers?

Sounds like Chase is now pretty quick to cancel your PP membership.

Thanks!!
The only credit card I've actually opened over the last 24 months is a Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. I had a Macy's card upgraded for me without my involvement... I "re-opened" a Target Red card that got closed due to inactivity.

Sayhello

OK that sounds promising. To be certain though, I"d suggest checking your FICO or FAKO (Credit Karma) to see if you are at 1/24 or 3/24. Chase has what is known as a 5/24 rule. The will auto deny anyone who has opened 5 or more cards of any type over the previous 24 months. Since UR points are the most valuable this should be your launching point. I would suggest getting a CIP (Chase Ink Preferred) . This is a business card. I am not sure if you have a business, but I am certain that like most of us on this thread (myself included) you have a "business" :rolleyes1 You do not need an EIN to open a business card if you are the sole proprietor. You use your social security number and your business name is your own legal name that is on any other credit card, like your CSR card.

Some of the "businesses" people have on this thread include, consultant, bake cookies for resale, Ebay seller, Etsy seller, blogger, dog groomer, rental property, travel agent, essential oils distributor, child care etc. For revenue, I usually enter $1,000 or so since that is what I was pulling in when I was grooming show dogs as a side hustle. We have a lot of amazing people on this thread that tirelessly and joyfully help out everyone. I think this thread is probably the friendliest, positive vibe and most non judgmental thread on the entire DISboards! Everyone has their own area of expertise on travel hacking and we all (including the newbies) share what we've done and how it worked for us. Therefore, we also support each other by using the support links that are kept on https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners whenever one of us applies for a new credit card as a way of giving back. That group is private and open to Disboard members. All you need to do is create a reddit name if you don't already have one and PM @SouthFayetteFan or @Albort to add you to the group. Then, you can also add your support link for your CSR which someone might use and you will get extra ultimate reward points from chase when that person uses your link to get a new card. All the discussions on travel hacking take place here so you don't need to follow 2 threads. However, there is a lot of great info that is stored there as a quick way to find reference info on a given topic. Much easier than finding one post in over 1,000 pages here.

Next, you will need to find out which airline is your best bet to get to KIX or ITM from your airport. This will give you a general idea of what airline miles you need. Is ORD your airport? I think I recall reading that on the ABD threads. Getting premium award space will be tough but getting the flight paid for with UR points will be do-able. I saw flights near your dates for $1500 RT and under. That would mean you need 100,000 UR points out of your CSR card. So, you apply for the CIP business card, make the $5,000 spend in 3 months. The reddit group has explanations on how to do that by using Plastiq to pay mortgage and other various work around to meeting minimum spend requirements. That will get you 85,000 UR points after the spend in your CIP account which you can transfer to your CSR account. Then you apply for the Chase Freedom card which is 15,000 UR points after spending $500. Transfer those to your CSR account and BOOM, flight paid for!

At worst it’s a month or two. If he violated 5/24 it would be a denial within an hour. They’ll have to contact Chase and remove him as an au give it a month or two, check to make sure he’s gone & try again.

There are no DPs to suggest AUs invalidate sign up bonuses, everyone just prefers to extra cautious.

Hate to say it but sounds like DSIL is gonna have to learn some of this hard way eventually, hope you don’t get burned when that happens. If a person won’t follow a personalized write up that’s... bad.

If you go through Cruise and Tours then you can book with an existing Disney offer and then just have the reservation transfer. If you just do it directly it works fine (I did that with my CSR and staying at CBR in January) but you are not taking advantage of any room discounts. At least that is my understanding. :)

I feel bad for those with families who use the CSR but a cap of some sort was long overdue. Just a reminder to those who are groups of four or five your new lounge math is now $6.75/pp fam of 4, $10.80/pp fam of 5. I still think that math makes sense if you’ll be somewhere for a while and would otherwise be buying everyone food (even just snacks or breakfast because airport prices) & drinks in the airport.

We are a family of 5 and I still agree with you. A case of some ruining it for all. When we did the PP at MCO in January there was a man going in with no less than 6 associates. 6 in the morning and they went straight to the bar. It seemed a little silly. I did just get on and order a PP membership for DH. So glad we have both kept our
CSR’s.

Using cash (CIP), using URs (points with Cruise & Tours). URs can be redeemed at travel value, 1.25 cents per point for CIP.

I think this really depends on how much you will use the CP and when you get the CP. If you get it at the beginning of 2019 for 2019 and 2020, then use it a ton, I would think there might be better value in the SW double dip. Remember that you can also do a SW personal and biz to get CP, then also take advantage for a Sapphire double dip depending on your 5/24 status.
this sounds interesting..... I like it- it would be DH accts..... he'll be 3/24 by end of year, and yes, I was trying to time things for 1/19 for CP- so that biz swa would leave a slot open? then a few months in he could do the sapphire....I may do this thanks!(assuming he qualifies for the biz swa)
Thanks so much for the advice everyone! I'm thinking (if this works out) I may try this route....and if it doesn't (something changes) I'll go for SWA as we tend to use that a lot visiting family etc also. (which has it's own big value)

6am?! Unless it’s Kaluha and coffee, or mimosas, or sparkling wine- I think I’d better stop juding 6am drinking actually.... Why did you chose to keep both CSRs instead of going the AU route?

made two runs to WM this week and converted VGCS (Metas) with no issue or any change seemingly. Seems like order is restored (or perhaps there was no scare to begin with when rumors were running over on reddit and FT). Your curse has been broken (I hope!). Business as usual and it almost felt easier as I’ve been using the line whenever cashiers casually asks, that my bank caps me at $500 per swipe, so I need to swipe twice :D stole that from someone else here or on Reddit. The cashiers have got friendlier and even chime in on their bank rules as well :lmao:

Think it was also you that mentioned you go to Harris teeter. Tried them the first time yesterday and it couldn’t be easier. Didn’t ask for my card or ID and I even casually offered the cashier my card just to assess and her response was “nope, we don’t do that here, it’s just how we operate” :hyper:

This is promising. I haven’t been MSing hard since Harris Teeter denied me twice at two different stores. I have to go back to Harris Teeter (maybe at night) and Walmart. I found a Walmart where the card is swiped with the back facing the cashier. Lol I have a $500 visa giftcard to liquidate. And I want to max SO’s Discover grocery category.

I have been doing the Venmo trick to meet SO’s SPG Biz spend just $1,500 left on that. This is saving me so much time.

Something awesome just happened.

I mentioned to DH that we would be pretty close to Disneyland when we go for my cousin's wedding in Phoenix in November. And he thought that sounded cool and that we should go! So instead of flying home to Michigan on Sunday, we will instead fly to Disneyland and spend 3 days, then go home. So DD's first Disney experience will now be Disneyland in November!

Just booked the Sheraton Park Hotel for 3 nights on points. Still planning on using UR points (either through calling Chase or transferred to SW) to book SW flights at the end of this month. So now to work on park tickets and food. Wondering if using UR points for park tickets might work well. Still have some time to think about it though.

I AM SO EXCITED!
See you are smarter than me. We are going to Grand Canyon in June. After the Canyon we are staying 3 days in Flagstaff. Could have zipped over to DLR for 3 days.

I kept both because DH eats out every single day which totally adds up. I wanted to keep mind for the travel booking and less often eating out. We could have kept one with a multiple card trick but DH wouldn’t feel comfortable using mine and I wanted to keep my own card for booking etc. Since the AU is $75 and would count against his 5/24 anyway seemed easier to just keep both. I see it as a $150 fee card since we had the travel credit on both used up in February. And plus I was just lazy and didn’t want to deal with making him call chase and cancel. :)

Does Venmo count for Amex? I thought it seemed that was a person to person transfer and might not count to meet the bonus spend under the RAT rules? Maybe I just assumed that to be the case though.

I’ve been right there with you as you know for Japan and they blew me away with the itinerary. We’re signing up Monday, too, and using DH’s spg which will finish his MS! Two Spgs and 1 CIP done in frighteningly short order! I don’t want to do the math on all the Disney gift cards I’m going to need. I’m a little nervous to do that many. Do you submit them all at once or ongoing? I should have all the miles I need for all 4 of us RT business in next month—but saver level only so wish me luck!

DH and I will combine the Disney GCs all on to one up to $1,000 which is the max. This is why we really miss the DVA account. We maxed out 3 of them and were working on the 4th one and then they did away with the program. DH said he'd miss the 2% in Disney GCs back but he had wished they'd left the accounts open as a way to consolidate gift cards all in one spot. I agree. You can consolidate your gift cards on to one for up to $1,000 here https://www.disneygiftcard.com/ under manage cards. I do not throw out those cards until after the trip is over. I write the amount with a sharpie on the back of each card.

Nice! I was looking at UA award space and the standard was at 175k each way! Yikes!! I'm going for Cathay Pacific this round. I will position us out of one of their US gateways and route through HKG. That is, unless I find something more interesting like taking a shower on the plane. So, it might be Emirates or Etihad. We'll see how things shake out. Ugh, I'd hate searching for 4 biz seats at saver level. That is some serious dedication and I definitely wish you luck!

It's so nice to finish up an MSR. I've been using the SPG relentlessly on all non category spend and not splitting the difference between the CFU and SPG on occasion. CFU is on hiatus now. DH is also under mandatory SPG use  I plan to get every point I can while the card is sitting in Hospice until it's demise come August. I am going to mourn this card the way I mourned the loss of RedBird MS. Still hurts. I just picked up an Amex Blue for business card and plan to hit the MSR on that with the on our own pre and post stays in China/Japan this month. I also made the mistake of watching a video on Tokyo Disney Sea merchandise that will be available when we get there. I am fairly certain I will be purchasing another piece of luggage for that shopping trip alone and hoping my new card doesn't start smoking and catch fire.

Oh that would have a 3% fee and Amex is cracking down. I have been getting US bank MasterCards at Giant and loading them to Venmo (they run as debit so no fee) and then paying my SO. You can only load 6 cards every 6 months.

I didn't explain fully... I booked ($200 on my CIP) deposit for son for Dec. with free dining. I was going to pay balance on husband's new CIP to help meet $5K spend. Any reason to transfer to Cruise/Tours for this booking? Do we net the same amount of points either way?
