I love credit cards so much!

I was all excited to see I had met the $3k MSR for my spg personal. Then I also saw that my $350 porch swing purchase is on backorder so I am betting that charge will fall off from pending and not post again until it ships. Grrrr...guess I better keep swiping the card a bit longer.

You are correct. You can get the Hyatt while over 5/24 but it will count in your 5/25.

Thanks @wendow! Yesterday I used my Hyatt CC to book an additional cash and points night at the beach in July to try it out. 7500 points and $125 in cash and it is a qualifying stay as well. 2 queens and a sofa sleeper oceanfront in Ocean City, Maryland! I already had the Holiday Inn and Suites (17th Street) booked for the weekend using my free night and 40K points (booked before they went to 50K). So, my daughter and myself and the babies will check in Thursday night of last week in July, enjoy the new Hyatt hotel and breakfast for one night. Free breakfast in the morning after I watch the sunrise during my early morning beach walk. I will drop into HI and see if my room is ready before checking out - I may ask for the 2pm late check out that you get with the CC status.

I had 43K Hyatt points from the bonus and I want to ration them so I can do a 3 night stay next year. It's 15K for a free night, but $439 for the standard rate, $397 for the member rate. Without points, in July that is what most will pay. So the 125$ cash and points deal was good value for this room. I expect to see it bounce way up next summer (2019).

Editing to add that I'll have my free Hyatt night next summer and my free IHG night will count as well, so will rinse and repeat.

Is there ever a reason not to use a flight/nights package when redeeming Marriott points? I may want to book a cat 8 and can always use a topper offer to my SW account. It seems these packages are very popular, so wondering if any reason not to book that way.

Looks like cat 8 with SW is 290k/310k/340k/360k.
Gives me the cert for hotel and 50k/70k/100k/120k SW RR points.

Looks like the hotel would normally by 240k points for 7 nights. Or if did the Sheraton or Westin (this would be after the merger) I am not sure what cat, but I'd guess the same. These are all for 2019 maui.

So I don't really get the math on these, but it seems like I am basically spending 120k extra marriott points to get 120k sw rr points. Well in my case, I have spg points, so 40k spg for 120k swrr.

I have a couple of questions about the Hyatt card,is this personal or biz? and hyatt doesn;t count 5/24? if I'm lol/24,I could get a hyatt card? I've never considere Hyatt before but I like your use of the points- so if you trabsfer UR-Hyatt and combine points, you'd have 50k hyatt to transfer whiich is a bonus point for swa points?
could you post the link of non 5/24 personal cc's again? I can't find it right now....
Don’t forget to look on Reddit if you decide on a card.

Thanks @DaveL for the email. However, I got an automated reply that she will be out of the office from May 3rd - May 15th!! My initial panic may have excalated tenfold now! EEK

I just want to make sure I have this right before I do it... I need to get some Disney gift cards, I was thinking of using Gyft (Via PayPal on a CF) for 5% back for Walmart gift cards, then head to SAMs and pickup the $150 packs for 4.7%? off... The Gyft/Paypal on the CF part is what I have not done before so just wanted to check.

Oh no! What was the problem? I wonder if someone else could help you resolve it.

Who’s getting the CIC before 5/20? I just need to decide if it will be me or DH who applies. He is 1/24 but has the CIP with approval in mid March. So he’s 0/30 but 1/60. I am 0/24 but hate to get it because I am planning to get the CIP with DH’s referral (soon) and I am afraid Chase will come out with the one ink rule.

Sounds correct to me, but consider this: As @havaneselover pointed out to me the other day, you can also use Chase Pay at Best Buy + the Swagbucks coupon (+ earn Best Buy rewards) for a larger discount . . .

Chase Pay 5%
Swagbucks 12%

Or if you have an Amex card, check for the Lowe's offer, which will net you 20% off Disney cards.

Edited - fixed Swagbucks % off - can't do math today . . .

What does everyone think of the Amex Everyday Preferred? I currently have the Blue Cash Preferred and am considering diversifying into Membership Rewards Points in addition to UR. I currently have CSR, CFU, and CF as well.

I think the flight/night packages are the best redemptions of Marriott points until we see what they roll out later this year; I expect the packages to be impacted by the merger.

Currently you can transfer 70K Marriott points for 25K miles, or 140K Marriott points for 50K SWRR if all you're doing is a straight up transfer to SWRRs. Another way to look at the flight/night packages from this perspective is to look at the Marriott point cost a la carte, i.e. pricing the miles transfer separately from the nights redemption and adding them together. For 125K SWRR it would cost 350K Marriott points + 240K Marriott points for 1 week in a Cat 8 hotel. That comes to 590K Marriott points vs the 360K for a flight/night package (ok, granted you get an extra 5K SWRRs in this scenario). Or in other words, you get a week in a Cat 8 hotel for just 10K Marriott points using the travel package, or alternatively as you point out 120K SWRR for 120K Marriott points which is a savings of 230K Marriott points over a miles only transaction. I think that makes the package a tremendous deal.

The downside to a flight/night package is that it is for 7 consecutive nights, it's not like you get 240K Marriott points to use here and there at your choosing. And it's supposed to expire in a year, but anecdotally people call and get their certificates extended for free.

I'm hedging my bets right now and plan to redeem Marriott points for another Cat 1-5 SW package. That way I get the 120K SWRR now. In June, Marriott is supposed to be releasing their new category list for all Marriott and SPG properties (they have released a few already but not the full list). I've made reservations at Cat 8 properties I'm considering. You have to search based on using reward points, not cash, but you don't need the points in your account yet if it's a Marriott property. But you do need the points in your account for SPG properties, so that puts you in a pickle if you're thinking of transferring the 40K SPG points over to Marriott for the travel package because you won't know ahead of time which category the Sheraton or Westin will end up in. Unless you have enough SPG points to both transfer to Marriott and book the Sheraton or Westin, then you're pretty golden.

When the new category list comes out, I'll call to upgrade my Cat 1-5 certificate to whatever the new category is and pay with Marriott points or I'll change to a different property entirely. Those are my plans anyway.

Never used the Swagbucks, but the site says its only 2% and excludes gift cards. I don't have the Lowes Amex offer.

Sounds like Chase is now pretty quick to cancel your PP membership.
Bummer. Thanks for looking that up for me though!

And while I agree Chase has to cap it somewhere, the cardholders minor children is different than business associates.
Agreed. It’d be nice if the card holder’s minor children were allowed in free. I’ve noticed that a lot of the lounges themselves don’t charge for children under 2 or 3, but that doesn’t help us any more since mine are now 5 & 9. Too old to get in for free, but too young to leave alone at the gate, haha.

It doesn’t matter much to me, since I’ve had the CSR for almost a year and still haven’t used a PP lounge and we only fly once or twice a year anyway. I just hate the principle of having to pay for something that used to be “free,” lol.

There’s a 500 sb ($5 bonus) right now for every $50 purchase. A lot of us have been buying $50 Disney gift cards and getting $6 (12%) back for each one. If you have chase freedom and use chase pay you can get another 5% if that’s not maxed out. Plus you earn Best Buy rewards (at least 1%).

FYI - IHG CARDHOLDERS! Good news...
I was very excited to hear about the one last free cert on any hotel on the IHG card. I got the $49 card right before it died and only got the 60K + $50 stmt credit bonus. I was still happy but not as happy as I am now with the unlimited cert for at least once.

I would get CIC if you can beforehand 5/20
Who’s getting the CIC before 5/20?
Pulled the trigger today on the CIC! and got the 30 day notice. This is a card I will be keeping. I was going to PC my CIP to this in a year but really could not pass up trying for the higher bonus. Plus getting itchy without an MSR to work on for myself. If I get it great, it not, I'll still PC in a year (as long as it sticks around). I'll cancel the CIP before the anniversary in Feb to free a spot for a SW biz card when I go for a SW CP.

Personally, I think your current cards are better everyday cards than the Amex everyday preferred. Are you just looking for a bonus though? How many cards have you gotten in the last 24 months? Are you looking for free travel? Cashback? What are your travel goals? Who’s in your travel party?

Ah okay, So I would have to make multiple $50 transactions... Well the CF is in my wife's name and she prob wont come with to BB I might just have to stick with the Gyft/SAMs process since I can do that w/out her.
