I love credit cards so much!

I'm heading to WDW in 10 days, and I just reworked our whole hotel stay :rolleyes1.

Original purpose of the trip was to do a quick visit with our little one, and burn some points. Well, I just decided that the Sheraton Lake Buena Vista didn't sound great for us, based on reviews, even though it was super cheap (in points - 12k SPG total for 3 nights), esp. because there doesn't seem to be a lounge, so no bennies for my SPG Biz there.

Instead, we are doing a split stay - 2 nights at the Delta (a Marriott chain, 1 mile from Disney Springs) and one night at the Swan. Right now I'm not using points for any of it - the Delta is 25k Marriott points, or $90 cash a night, the swan is 12k SPG (36,000 Marriott) and less than $200 cash, including the resort fee.

So I'm not burning any points because spending 86k Marriott points on something I can get for $400 is a return of .004 per point, and that seems pretty low. But now I'm spending money on a trip that was supposed to be practically free... o_O

I was just having the same internal debate. Booked fall break at the beach and the cash rate is only $130. Using Hilton points got me .005 value. I just stuck with the points for the sake of free. Normally I probably would've paid the cash but I figured they will likely upgrade us to a suite anyways, so there will be my extra value.

There's no rule per-say. Do you have an immediate need for the Marriott points or a spend coming up that you wanted to use it for? If that's not the case and if you aren't finished with your CIP MSR yet then I'd wait as long as you can. The more you space them out, the better off you are from a "looking risky" standpoint.

My plan going forward is to apply for my next card about 2 weeks before I anticipate finishing the MSR on my current card (and at least put 2 months in between Chase apps, more if I can swing it).
Not really, just hoping to get a nights+flights package booked up before September and I am impatient. LOL . I always can just get the cat 1-5 and book the cat 8 anyway and add the points when I get them (I think).

Do you have any UR points? You could always book a Disney property on UR points.

No, I don't want to deal with Chase business cards. We're just each getting a SW card.

I'm sure others have replied to this further down the thread, as I am behind, but if you goal is just SW points, and not CP, the double dip today is a great plan. You will be able to transfer those points to SW to use...or book on the portal, but I haven't found that to be the best thing for me since I like the flexibility of booking with SW points. Today is your only chance for the CSP for 24 months.

If I didn't have SW RR points, I'd be perfectly happy transferring URs to SW for flights. Because booking with RR points is the bomb - no change fees, no stupid ticketless travel funds with expirations to keep track of, easy to change to a lower fare with instant RR point refund. I value SW RR points around 1.4 cpp which is close to the 1.5 portal multiplier.

agree 100%

This is what I do too.

OMG, you guys are such good enablers/cheerleaders! I just applied for the double dip and was instantly approved (with a 19k limit!!) I can't believe how nervous that made me, lol. Now I'm afraid of being shut down because I feel like only churners would apply for two cards in one day.:magnify::scared::duck:

Congrats!!! I would have been totally nervous too b/c I am a scardy cat...but totally worth it!!!!!

Hey are there any Chase rules on how soon you can apply for personal+biz cards? I was planning on getting the Marriott 100k but I just got approved for the CIP and didn't know how far I should space them out.

There is a new Marriott offer as well, which folks might want to consider depending on their travel plans. It gives free 2 nights (up to 35k points) plus a $200 statement credit and waived fee the first year for $3000 in spend. This may be a better card for some people if they have plans to stay at a cat. 1-5 hotel (best value from staying at a cat. 5) in the next year.

So the big differences in this offer is no annual fee the first year, $2k less in spend and a bit less flexibility in the "points" redemption.

Well, I just finished my spend on the CIP, should I get the CIC or referr my wife to the CIP? I am still looking for SW Biz early next year for the CP. any thoughts.

On another note. I really like doing the bank bonuses. I have been very happy with how that has turned out. It has been fairly easy to do.

@SouthFayetteFan Reviews are loaded. I tried to keep a similar format to yours...
Ooh! I’m gonna do one for the beach trip I just did on URs!
We've done Cinderella's Royal Table, Tusker House, Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace, Le Cellier, Beaches and Cream, Akershus, California Grill, Trails End, 50's Primetime Cafe, Ohana breakfast and dinner, Be Our Guest, The Wave, Yak and Yeti, Grand Floridian Cafe and a few others. I have to stay we keep coming back to Narcossee's , Via Napoli, Sci Fi Dine in and Chef Arts Homecomin in Disney Springs. Excellent food at all of them. I've heard good things about Jungle Canteen, The Edison, Blaze Pizza, Morimoto and the Swalphin high end restaurants-Bluezoo and Shula's. August trip we plan to try Jungle Canteen and June trip we will try Boatwrights at our resort POR.

We also are booking ADR's in a few days!
I'm booking next week!! Fwiw I thought Morimoto's was cool. The cocktails were disappointing, the atmosphere was awesome, the food was ok (Had Peking Duck but it was more of a fusion style Peking Duck than the fully authentic that I was expecting but it's a fusion restaurant so uh-duh, my bad there!). I would definitely recommend trying it! While I don't intend to go back, I'm glad we did it!

I think I used only my personal income on past apps. If I put household, which would pretty much double my income, would that be a red flag for Chase? Do they compare income from previous applications?

I am under 50% personal income but over 30%.

I've never heard anything to indicate it would. I just put my own down and stuck with it since they've extended me a decent amount of credit every time. I can't remember what we put down for DH's CIP. I think maybe just his own income, but I'm not sure. I'll be going for CSR/CSP for him soon and may put household down then.

I just wanted to add that both Chase and Amex online accounts have a profile page where you can update your income. Updating your account profile will at least get the new (combined) number into the issuer/bank's system for the next time you apply for one of their cards.

If you value Marriott points at $0.01 each AND you can definitely use the 2 nights at 35k properties here's how I see the two offers:
  • 100,000 + 10,000 for MSR = 110,000 = $1,100 value (less) $95 AF = $1,005 @ a return of 20.1% ($5k MSR)
  • Two Free Nights Valued at 70,000 (35k ea) + 6,000 for MSR = 76,000 = $760 + $200 stmt credit = $960 value (no AF) @ a return of 32% ($3k MSR)
Both offers seem very strong and I don't think you can "go wrong". If you're focusing on doing a nights and flights eventually then the 100k is far superior from that standpoint.

Tagging @mom2elal too...

Based on the most recent devaluation, Southwest points are now worth 1.48 cents each. So URs transferred to Southwest are worth...1.48 (which is slightly less than 1.50 for those who are good at math ;)) Now there is some debate on whether it makes sense to PAY for southwest flights using URs or book them with SW RR points. I'm in the book with SW RR camp (however it's easy to be since I have over 550k SW points).

In my spreadsheet I have my recent flights at 1.6 cents. Are you subtracting out the taxes and fees or can I not divide? lol My flights were $92 for 5644 points and $106 for 6660 points. Are they all slightly different returns? Just curious.

SO got the CIC a bit more than 30 days after the CIP approval. When did you get approved? I’m hoping to get him the SW Biz in January too but who knows if he will get approved. I thought the CIC would be worth risking the 60k RR but idk if you would feel the same way. The CIC offer I think is going away this month.
