I love credit cards so much!

Really? No one else watches The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime? Fabulous show!

LOVED it! Watched the whole thing in just a couple of days. Can't wait for season 2.

I watched it and LOVED it... I can't wait for the next season. Of course I'm a big fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino.

So glad to see all of this love for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I've been looking for a new show to start binge watching, lol, and this one has been on my radar, but it just moved to the top of the list!!

Even hubby who is still not convinced all the CC stuff is legal (or "legal", but I give up discussing it) and is a reluctant participant jumped on the Chase bonuses. He thought about it for about a day but came to the conclusion free money is ok and actually drove over to Jersey to open it in branch (we can't open online). When the $300 hit he did remark it was the easiest money earned. And we got a Disney debit card out of it
I've got a spreadsheet started to keep track of estimated tax owed on the interest as I plan to do a few more of these in the next year. AND you could knock me over with a feather as hubby even volunteered that when we get the bonus from the savings we can use the money we parked there to look for another bonus

OMG! I can't believe how easy that was! I was in and out of the Chase branch near my office in under 20 minutes!! Of course, it helps that this is Idaho, and there was absolutely no one in the branch when I walked in, so I sat down immediately with the same banker who helped me open the savings account a couple of years ago. We opened the new checking, moved the balance over from the savings, closed the savings, deposited a little more into the new checking to keep the balance above the minimum for no fees, and I'm already back in my office and have already set up direct deposit for this new account for 0.05% of each of my weekly paychecks. Might have to be on the lookout for more local banks with account offers, but in the meantime, I'm highly pleased with the minimal effort and time this took :)

Playing catch up here. So not sure if this has been discussed. But saw something for a $200 MasterCard GC purchases from Staples and with no fee. Thinking this would be perfect for my MSR on my CIC. Any reason to be concerned about this since it would be involving a Chase card and that is a big amount to be buying a gift card with a cc. Should I be concerned. Thanks

Nothing on Chase side. But on the gift card side, US MCGC has a tendency to lose its funds. So drain it as quickly as you can. There is a way of doing that in our MS thread on reddit.

Congrats! That sounds like hubby's report too, I was surprised how fast he got it all done. Longest thing we had to wait for was his DD to actually change at work. He missed the cutoff for the upcoming pay period so had to wait the 2-3 weeks for the next paycheck. But DD hit on Fri, following Tue, tada! $300 richer. I think that's what sold him, the return for about an hour's worth of work. Beats Swagbucks

I got the CIP on March 15. Any opinions on me applying for the CIC before 5/20?

ETA: Here is my X/24 history for reference.

Chase Sapphire Reserve - October 2016
Chase Marriott - April 2017
Chase Freedom Unlimited - May 2017
Chase IHG - July 2017
Chase Ink Preferred - March 2018

Just wanted to give you an update that SO applied for the CIP in February but approved in March. I just applied him for the CIC yesterday and he got approved today after waiting out the 30 day message. He has two other Chase personal cards in the last year and an Amex Biz.

The Disney debit is my favorite thing about our checking account. I don't have a Disney credit card, so it lets me get those in park perks.

I am planning to apply around May 16, so it will have been two months since the other app. I feel like this should be a decent buff. I also proactively lowered my credit limits by 20k in order to make room for the new card. Hope that makes it go smoothly.

The timing shouldn’t be an issue. I was worried SO would get denied because it is so soon, but I was pleasantly surprised with a quick approval. I applied now because I wanted him to get the CIC before I refer him the Amex Delta Biz and that offer expires in May too.

This is great to hear because I'm also trying to wait as long as possible before having DH apply for the CIC, but if I need to get the app in before May 20, it will be slightly under 2 months from the time he was approved for the CIP. He also got the CSP in Feb. Slightly worried I might be hitting Chase too hard if I go ahead with CIC, but pretty sure I'm going to do it unless there are some definitive DPs that 50k offer will be around beyond May 20. And I also think I'm going to ask for the CL on his CSP to be lowered before applying, even though I've never proactively reduced a CL before. He has a $35k CL on the CSP but only got $9k on the CIP which he applied for after getting the CSP, so I see a trend...And given that we've sock-drawered the CSP (since I have a CSR), we certainly don't need $35k on that one!

Gotta give a shout out to Sneaky Pete on Amazon Prime! Love that show!

Earlier this year, we were thinking about going to Belfast for a concert, but then abandoned the idea after DH’s job seemed to be on shaky ground. But events have arisen that puts the trip back on the table and I need some help. Actually, the story is pretty cool. We were planning on going for a little under a week for the one concert, and then doing some sightseeing. My grandmother’s family came from Belfast, and I know she wishes she had gone when she was able to. So, I thought I might Facetime her while I was there to show here some of the city. But we decided not to make the trip because there is some uneasiness surrounding DH’s job, and doing some long weekends in the states seemed like a more logical option. But last week, I found out that my grandmother’s younger sister was expressing regret at never meeting her relatives in Belfast, and her daughters convinced her to make the trip. The crazy thing is that they booked their trip for exactly when we were going to be there! So, our own trip is back on. My cousins are much more outgoing than I am, and they’ve already hatched a plan to connect with our relatives. I can now meet up with them and meet my extended family without the anxiety of having to take the lead and find them myself.

I know I’m way late for finding business class seats, and we’re okay with economy, so I started researching my options. We don’t have to follow the exact itinerary of my family, we just have to be there on 8/25 for the concert and then one of the days surrounding it for the family gathering. Flying out of BDL, Aer Lingus has a direct flight to Dublin, so we want to take that route and then catch a train to Belfast and back.

Trip Details:
Late August (peak)
BDL --> DUB
Aer Lingus Economy (Direct Flight)
2 Passengers

Option 1 Book direct through Aer Lingus: $1100.26
Option 2 Book through CSR Portal: 77,610 UR ($582.08 each cash ticket)
Option 3 Book through United: 120K MileagePlus + $105.22
Option 4 Book on Avios.com: 80K Avios + $563.70
Option 5 Book with BA over the phone: 80K Avios + undetermined fees

Currently have:
UR: 437K
SPG: 135K (+25K in a few months)
Avios: a little under 14K

Because we’re on a tight budget right now, I’d like to spend as little cash as possible unless it makes sense to outlay some money for the bigger picture. On the surface, Option 2 seems like the obvious choice. I would like to do something to use up our small amount of Avios, but the CSR portal seems to win out over transferring UR or using SPG points. I could book a Nights and Flights package for miles, either United or Avios, but I don’t currently have any plans to use the hotel nights, so if I went that route I’d need to start planning another trip, too. I’d love for someone (ahem, @SouthFayetteFan) to check my math or suggest alternatives.

dumb AU question of the day..... my DH has been AU on my personal SPG card for years now.... I just had to call and get a new one due to an odd charge on my card. They only sent me one new card....does this mean he's not an AU anymore? or if I request a new one in his name, will it trigger something on his report now?

This kind of reminds me of the big fuss everyone made back in ~2012 or so when Netflix announced they were raising their monthly subscription by $2 ($24/year). People swore they'd cancel Netflix, Netflix stock went crashing, but five years later Netflix is reporting quarter-after-quarter subscription growth and their stock has hit all time highs. Some people will cancel, but I think too many are used to all-you-can-eat free shipping on Amazon that carries just about everything.

Funny you mention that. I did cancel netflix way back when, on principle, and have never looked back. I am good at holding a grudge.:teeth: I didn't look at it as a small increase. I looked at it as halving the product and charging me the same price.>:(

I would take option 2, it seems like a reasonable amount of UR for 2 international tickets with no cash outlay. I would not transfer that many SPG points since I feel that redemptions are much better on hotels and without plans to use a nights and flights ticket, it doesn't do you much good in saving money.

I just edited my post because I meant to say Option 2 was the obvious choice. I reordered my list and forgot to update the rest of the post.
Thanks!

Another question regarding JEtblue bookings. I'm thinking of using some points up for a flight for ds- BUT he may (within 60 days before flight) back out. Now I'm willing to drop some points on this, but it appears that I'd lose about $100 to cancel his flight. IS it $100 per each way, or for the R/T fare,$100 total? And if I cancel, and pay the $100, do the points come back to me,or do I lose them too? (I'm also considering making him fly on his own on SWA b/c it's much easier to plan for him that way) ETA...oh wait... it looks like if we canceled it,even on points iw ould just be a credit which he'd likely never use. I may just make him go SWA b/c he's awful about planning

He is still an AU, and you don't need to request a new one.

I am AU on DH's AX BCP, and he once had a card reissued for the same reason as you. He got a new card, I didn't, and I use mine with no issues and it's been years.

Hey y'all! Just got back from an awesome WDW trip! I was able to meet my required spend in 5 days! Thank God my step brother believes "cash is king, don't want a CC" :worship: he charged everything to the Magicband and had my new CIP on file :cool1:

Uber, airport parking, in-flight Wifi and all magicband purchases were 3X! I also figured out what was wrong with my plastiq payments, my computer must have auto-filled the address. It was going to the wrong city/state,Hoping it's smooth sailing from now on. :thumbsup2
