I love credit cards so much!

I don't think @thevalley can go for the SW Plus bonus later this year because the new rules say:

The product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapids Rewards® Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Cardmembers of the Southwest Rapid Rewards Business Card and Employee Credit Card

So if @thevalley received a bonus for his SW Premier card sometime after February 2017, then he's not eligible for another SW personal card until 24 months after that bonus posted (so sometime in early 2019). That's unless the rumored premium SW personal card coming later this year doesn't contain the above "one Sapphire rule" language.

Ah, yes correct. I forgot about that part of the rule, just was thinking only one personal at a time.

@platamama I understand your feelings after talking to Amex. They were so weirdly enthusiastic and I wanted to say “I’m not stupid even if you do convince me to keep this card I am done putting everyday spend on it.” I’m glad you told her she was being disingenuous.

Thanks to everyone for the input on DVC. @wendow you are not too late. All input (and reality checks welcome). I am literally all over the map with DVC..consuming me like credit cards and bonus points usually do! Honestly I keep going back and forth on it at all and then how to do it. The fear of not liking Disney or not wanting to go isn’t going to happen but I have always put it off. Now totally kicking myself of how cheap it could have been if DH and I had bought in our first trip together in 2005! Realistically prices only going up. We have put down a bunch of concrete and a retaining wall in our backyard and to do that makes most sense to get a small homeowner loan. Which is why the impetus to do DVC now came from....get a little more on the loan and buy into DVC with the plan to pay off early. I feel vaguely guilty about doing it that way though as you get on the DVC board and everyone carries on about how it is a luxury purchase. Our only bill is our mortgage that only has about 10 years left. We have government jobs. I shouldn’t have to defend myself. But here I am even to you guys.

I shouldn’t say that DVC is consuming me at the expense of credit cards. Because now I am obsessing that DH needs to get the SPG Biz!

For those of you whose SPG Biz links died and/or you can't generate a "support" link for your SPG Biz, call Amex to complain that you're trying to refer someone but can't get a working link and they might credit you some courtesy SPG points to offset your loss.

https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8d4i1h/daily_discussion_thread_april_18_2018/dxl03pa

If you are willing to deal with the possible frustration everyone should contact SPG about the links. I tried half a dozen last night on the thread before I finally got one to go through. They were all coming up expired. And one that had worked earlier but then timed out didn’t work again when I tried again.

Hah! I just pulled the trigger on the SPG biz. Instant approval! And I set up my online account. I wonder how long the card will take to arrive! Now, I start mapping out my spend. Should be no problem. I wonder if they did a HP. How should I check on this?

The last round of SPG Biz's reported here in March was a pretty consistent 7 days, if USPS gets delayed maybe a day or two more. I applied on a Monday and it arrived the following Monday. I forget where I read it, here or over in reddit, but if you need it expedited try calling in and ask to have it shipped to a different address. (you're travelling/relocating/work address something) That worked for someone when everyone was getting told they don't expedite that card.

They didn't do a HP for me. I have credit monitoring and I got no alerts of changes when I applied. You can either pull your free credit reports or some of the free stuff from CC's will tell you how many inquires you have. Not necessarily what they were but at least the # of them. So if you knew what you were before you'd see an increase. I can't remember if I saw it with Chase credit journey or the Discover summary.

I thought my approval for the CIP with only a $5k limit was stingy. Is it possible you put down lesser income than you actually have? It might be with a phone call at least to see.

I went on the website and checked in my profile and the income is correct.

So far behind on this thread, can't wait to see if you were given more. That is completely insulting!!! That's like a kid out-of-college, first CC kind of amount...

I did online chat and the guy said to request a CLI on the website. I said they aren’t going to pay attn to that on a brand new account.
Google showed me they will increase limits fairly quickly so I am going to see what happens after the first statement and maybe request at that time. So frustrating. I’m literally going to have to pay it twice a week.

ETA: doesn’t look like they did a hard pull

Congratulations again! I love that Chase will rush their cards to you so you can start spending on them ASAP. *Glaring at you, Amex* You don't plan to buy coffee, lunch or eat out? Pay for parking or tolls? Not big ticket items, but I love that you earn 3x UR on these little things that add up.

Oddly enough, no
We will be adding it to our EZPass accounts tonight but we're not expecting reloads on either tag for a couple weeks. I'm actually working at home most of the time now so our eating out has dropped now that I can use my commute time to pack lunches and start dinner instead :) It's great for the wallet but h*ll on the CC points.
But I sense a celebratory dinner coming to break it in :P

Looking for a cross country flight this fall for a fam member and my jaw dropped when I saw United Saver First space available- I wasn't even logged in! It had a warning sign on it "mixed cabin" so I hover over it to find out the first 2 legs (7.5 hours total flying time) are economy but the last leg (45 mins) was in First. BE SO CAREFUL if you see First Saver space pop up on United, I can't believe their system actually considers that a First Class Flight. United: never ceasing to amaze!

Applied for SPG personal at like 11pm on Monday night and it came this morning UPS

So what's so different about the Biz cards that they can't do the same? They don't give out the account number on approval like the personals can, and they take a week to arrive. :confused3

I'm glad for you that you got it so quickly! Just always perplexed by AmEx.

Idk either! I wrote down the personal card number after I was approved, and think it's cool that they sent it so quickly but I won't be using this card right now anyways. Still gotta finish off my spg biz first. So, for once, I get Amex to overnight a card and I don't really need it yet lol.

I'll be the voice of dissent here . . . we bought a contract when the kids were little and sold years later (I did keep my small 50 point ad on). Admittedly, the initial purchase was more of an emotional thing. Later when I crunched numbers, I found it made more sense to rent points from someone (financially that is) vs own. I would suggest that you run numbers yourself and see if it makes sense based on how you like to vacation. We bought new though - which I realize makes a difference.

Why don't you rent once or twice and see if you like it first, and then go from there.

Since a number of us are considering the CSR+CSP double dip soon, here are several interesting DPs from Reddit that's a modification of the usual approach: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8d4i1h/daily_discussion_thread_april_18_2018/dxlimcm/
Since we have a third DP, I want to make sure people are aware of a modification to the CSR/CSP double dip. Both applications don’t have to be done on the same day (still recommended). If the first app is pending and is approved on a different day, you’re able to apply for the second card on the same day as the approval of the first card (not the same day as application).

Example: If you apply for the CSR on 5/1 and are approved on 5/5, you can apply for the CSP on 5/5 and receive approval.

ETA: I think, as OJtheJEWSMAN noted, doing the two applications on the same day should still be recommended because you'd have the benefit of combining the hard pulls. Applying for the CSR and CSP on different days might work to get around the one Sapphire rule, but would result in two hard pulls.

That is a very interesting DP. It makes sense and was probably always the case but nice to see it proven out now :) It seems the whole goal here is getting an application in Chase's system past the "You already have a CSR auto-deny bot" if you will. I would assume that you have to apply for the 2nd the day that you're approved though or you could be out of luck once some computer system catches up with things overnight or something like that.

Well DH now thinks I am over the top with this new hobby. We're at the eye doctor and the co-pay is $5. He reaches for his wallet and I'm like nooooo I'll use my new IHG MC since I need to make MSR. Every little bit helps, right?!?

I referred DH for the CIP on Saturday and by Tuesday it was approved. As I mentioned, the air conditioner didn't turn on over the weekend (not that we need it now since it has started snowing). I have a very low temperature range where I am comfortable like 68-72 degrees :P. So having working air conditioning is very important in the coming months. We'll see if just a fix or replacement. So the MSR will probably go to that.

Travel news - just one month until my Moab trip to Arches and Canyonlands. Very excited about this. It has been crazy at work and I really need a break.

This made me laugh. Thats how I felt at the Dollar Tree today when I put a whopping $4 on my new IHG card.

Moab is on my list. I was thinking it might be a good place to use a Marriott package. Is a week too long there I wonder? We like to travel around and rarely spend that long in one place.

It drives me crazy that none of our doctors take Amex! I paid my last co-pay with a VGC bought with one of the Amex cards I'm working on. Nope. Not sketchy at all.

Enjoy those 100k URs coming your way!

Can't wait to read about your Moab trip!

Another DVC owner here - 4 contracts from 2000, so I've had it quite some time. I paid 56.75 a point for my first contract at BWV. Got a cast member discount! (Worked at the Disney store for a few shifts over a five month period.) The rest of my contracts were low sixties. Early on, the dues were pretty low and the point structure was different. My first studios at BWV cost me something like $36 a night in cheap season- double that for a one bedroom. Most expensive season when I first joined was $90 a night. Dues have gone up, but I still enjoy an excellent value. Lots of people say they wouldn't do it again at todays prices - but - they've already enjoyed years of DVC at lower cost. I see todays prices as really high, but room rates aren't cheap either, especially for larger units.

I wouldn't buy large contracts - keep them 150 or less. Direct is good to get what you want, but you'll pay more for your buy in. Resale is great if you find what you want.

What is amazing to me is that it has held it's value. My points could be sold for more than double. I'd like to think that I could pick the sweet spot to give them up, but now I'm thinking we'll use them until the contracts end. (But if I need a quick 30k in the next few years I know I can let this luxury go!)

Enjoy them if you buy them! We've made lots of memories.

HaHa! I'm probably not a good DP for you as until last year I hadn't opened a credit card in about 5 years! (I'm bad on the "churn" part  I tend to only get keeper cards) But here goes:

What's your 5/24 count?: 2/24 (my 3rd card I mentioned was SPG Biz so that's not showing up anywhere)
What cards have you opened in the last 6 months and date opened?:
  • Discover It 11/17
  • SPG Biz 3/18 (but again, it's not showing anywhere, not even a HP)
Any idea on how many recent inquiries you have?: 3/24, 2 credit cards and 1 installment loan. Installment loan in 1/18, cards in 11/17 and 5/17

@SouthFayetteFan RE:above - I just got notified today of my Chase inquiries and I got pulled from both TU and EX.
My TU has 0 inquires in the last 2 years and EX only has the 1 from 5/17.
I forgot that despite Discover using TU for their credit score card they actually pulled from Equifax and I only remembered that my installment loan pulled the same one as Discover (not who they pulled from. I always forget about EQ because it seems everyone else has. it's my lightest CR)

ummmm.....so good news and bad news.

My SPG personal just arrived via ups overnight. Great, I can spend away.

EXCEPT, the credit line is $1k!?!?!?!? Is that some kind of error!? I am insulted. Score in 800s, income well into 6 figures, and all my limits on chase cards are more like $30k and I pay them off monthly. Do I call them or what? Even my Costco amex was $10k probably 10 years ago. Only other amex is SPG biz with $5k limit but I attributed that to the fact that I put $5k business revenue so seemed fine.

Any insight?

I also got a $1000 credit limit. Credit score in the 800's, good income, long credit history, I don't understand. I'm going to request a credit increase after the first month. I had planned to use the card to pay my homeowner's insurance, but that bill is over $2000. Amex is making this too difficult with the low credit limits and the number of places that don't accept the card. After I finish with these two cards, I think I will just work on building up my UR points with Chase.

Better churner than I, I still can't make myself use a card at the dollar store if it's under $10. Unless I absolutely have no cash on me. Hubby has no problem, he's always been the type of guy to put gum on a CC. (and before CC's, he did actually write a check for some amount under a dollar)
