I love credit cards so much!

Are you flying out of terminal 3 where the lounge is? We were thinking about doing this in June, but we are flying SW, so debating if we want to criss-cross between terminals to do so...:confused3 but sounds like we should since we have a late flight and dinner would be fab:hyper:

We actually flew SW out of Terminal 1, and we just landed in the OC!

Keep in mind that SW doesn’t accept check-in baggage more than 4 hours before your flight. Once our bags were checked in, we took the escalator upstairs, took the AirTrain to Terminal 3, went through security, to access the Centurion Lounge. When we were done, we walked out of the secured area, back up to AirTrain and took the train back in the opposite direction to Terminal 1, then passed through security there. The walk and trip on AirTrain takes less than 10 minutes each way. Security at Terminal 3 (United) is much longer and more of a mess than at Terminal 1 (Frontier, Southwest). Totally worth it to have a hot meal, drinks, and a comfortable place to spend two+ hours.

Researching my DDs top college pick after getting Financial aid statement and GASP, they do not take credit cards at all! I thought it was bad that my older DDs school takes it but charges a fee. So, if she does go here, what are my options? Is this a type of thing I can use plastiq for? Or should I tell her not to even consider this school. lol Just kidding, sort of. :rolleyes1 My credit card points are the only way I am going to travel in the next 6 years until college is done for all 3.

Plastiq would work. It may not always code 3x but at least you would still have the option to use a CC. I'm not knowledgeable about the GOC cards. Maybe that would be an option?

@amalone1013 I'm gonna get a chance to try Timberline at DIA when dh & I fly to Orlando in April :) So hoping it is still open! Do you remember about how long it took to get your food? Are they quick knowing people are on their way to catch flights? We won't have time for a leisurely meal.

I would definitely reply to the SM and ask to escalate to a supervisor. I have had success at least twice getting “courtesy” adjustments in this manner. The first time involved train tickets from London to Penzance that somehow did not code as travel even though they were TRAIN tickets. The second was the balance payment for our Austin Adventures Yellowstone trip. For that one, I compared it to ABD or Nat Geo travel and they caved right away and made the adjustment once I escalated. The train one was surprisingly harder, but I persevered and got the adjustment. If they denied me on the Austin one, my backup plan was to ask to switch the charge to my CFU so I’d at least get 1.5x. Can’t remember if you have that card or not. BTW, the first response from Chase on both those inquiries was the standard one about them not being responsible for how the transaction codes. I just replied that while I understood the answer, I was entirely unsatisfied with it because these were clearly travel charges.
This is super helpful also. Thank you so much. I don't have the 1.5x CFU. I may PC at some point for that. Too weird about the train tickets, too!

I'm on the ledge with you about the IHG. Been on the ledge all day (couldn't even sleep last night thinking about it lol!). I just applied for the spg biz which is going to be plenty of spend to keep me busy but I'm just sick now cause I really want the $49 IHG. The $29 would be useless to me and the $89 has more benefits than I need or want.

I understand that feeling. I'd feel the same way. I was looking at the new card benefits to see if I liked them better than what I have with my $49 IHG card now. They wouldn't sway me to PC my IHG to the new card. I put no spend on it so 10,000 bonus points for $20k spend makes me laugh. I don't see myself purchasing IHG points with any regularity so 20% off points doesn't sway me either. Besides, the current card gives you 10% of your points back on redemption. I very rarely stay anywhere for 4 nights so a 4th night free doesn't do it. The annual free night at "eligible" hotels is downright scary. Maybe I'm paranoid but that smacks of cat 1-5 only in Marriott-speak. No thanks. I'll stick with the current IHG card.

I am with you @Calfan and @wendow with the indecision over IHG. I just brought it up with a fake booking for 60k after $1000 spend and 5000 after AU. Any thoughts of whether or not I would get it since just barely was approved for CIP? And with such a low credit limit ($5000). I really would like to avoid another call to Chase although logically I know it would not be as bad (probably just shifting credit). It would make me 5/24 though. But I have the Freedom, FU, CIP, and will be 3/24 this fall after Reserve and Freedom fall off. Only other Chase card at this point I am maybe interested in is one of the Marriott cards.

Edited to add: just read that will probably be rejected if 2 Chase cards in a 30 day period. Any down side to just applying? Other than possible phone call?

How many Chase cards in last year, six months, 30 days? Would you have credit you could shift around if needed? I don't think a call for the IHG would be bad. I think if you want it, go for it. Worst case you are denied, recon and still are denied. As to your */24 status, it sounds like Chase will open back up for you in the fall. Only offer that is very appealing right now and might be gone by fall is maybe the CIC.

Some people have been able to pull up the 80k offer today also. Was it @peel?

CIP middle of March. Before that no Chase at all since February of 2017 and the Hyatt. Other cards between Hyatt have been Amex SPG personal and Delta Platinum Business. I really want the CIC but am not optimistic on my chances; hopefully can get it for DH. Don’t want to jeaporidize CIC which is why I am not considering the IHG for him.

I thought I saw someone had pulled 80. I guess I will play around with it a bit.

Thanks SO much for the step by step! Going to copy this into the notes on my phone, so I know how to get to and from the lounge and SW in SFO in June. I was concerned about the time it would take to criss-cross terminals via the AirTrain so good to know it’s only 10min or so on that front. Hopefully having pre-check will minimize the messy security lines at T-3? Or were the longer lines even at pre-check?

Have a great time!! :bounce:

Yay! They're pretty quick, and check your boarding time before they seat you. We're flying out on the 4th so I hope it's open then to use again! We get back on the 10th, which I think is when you fly out? But probably after you leave.

So, doesn't sound like you are risking a CHase shutdown :) The 80k has 2k spend and, IIRC, a $50 credit.

Yes, the 10th! We fly out at 6pm. When do you guys arrive? Gonna try to hit the MCO one also :)

No, precheck was pretty much clear! My wife kept grumbling she should’ve gone into the precheck line with DD because she has Global Entry, and left me to stand in line with the mobs because I still haven’t gotten around to getting precheck or GE.

TSA will give you a quizzical look when they check your boarding pass and see you’re flying on an airline in a different terminal. Just tell them you’re going to a lounge and it’s ok.

This is so bizarre. I haven’t seen any other DP of someone being denied the bonus for a personal because they have the business. What I think the issue is is his business points were going to your account and you have the personal points so that’s probably the issue. Get the accounts sorted out and maybe it will fix itself. If not fight and ask to speak to supervisors.

@speedyfishy thank you very much. That is my same line of thinking, but the Chase rep was so adamant that I was wrong that I doubted myself! Fingers crossed it will all sort itself out! Thanks again for the reassurance!

Someone more tech savvy help! I got jealous of @SouthFayetteFan and his easily accumulated UR's on his Freedom today. I figure I would do some arm-chair category maxxing except for....I can't figure it out. We are 2 player with 1 Freedom each. DH has a LG & a Samsung phone (so I think he can use Samsung pay, Chase pay and Google pay). I have a Moto Z so I can use Chase Pay and Google Pay. Google seemed easiest but I can't do P2P and pay with CC? Bank account only. I can't find any P2P info on the Chase pay app. Has anyone made this work?

Step 1: Buy an iPhone
Step 2: then I can help you...LOL!!! :rotfl2:

Hopefully somebody can bring some real expertise on this one lol

My account still shows the card as a CFU and I don't see the q1 activated. Guess I'll just wait a couple days.
So the first one I converted took a little over a day to show up as a Freedom. THEN I called to activate Q1 and Q2... Once yours turns to a Freedom I guess you'll see then if it's activated or not...

Of course with my man Geno...well you all know the store, he was freakin awesome :worship: I only have eyes for you Geno...hahaha

Have a great time! Totally jealous. We’re spending spring break staycationing. Yesterday we visited a beautiful Lowe’s with a great selection of Disney GCs. Today was a lovely visit with the vet. We did catch a hockey game yesterday and heading to a nature museum tomorrow, but it ain’t the OC!
