I love credit cards so much!

Help please experts! @Lain especially I know you are so familiar with Chase and were looking for data points. I applied for CIP on Sunday. 30 day message. Yesterday when I called the line it was 14 days. Today I got a call from Chase. I didn't answer the first phone, but then they called my other number so despite the fact I was in the car I answered. Verifying information. I put just my income on the application not that of DH. (I don't know why I didn't add it, other than honestly I was probably overthinking it). At any rate they called to "check a couple things." The "couple things" ended up going over the entire application. It started with them telling me they have already extended as much credit as they are going too. I said to add DH's income. I don't know if that will make a difference. It then went into details about business. Since it is a "business" which I ended up qualifying as best I could as online sales it was a little ridiculous. (I.e. "you said $50 as income where did that money come from? what did you sell and too how many.") He ended up saying that they will send it up for review and let me know in 10 to 14 days. For the record I am 4/24 and just checked showing credit score of 841 on Experian.

So. What do you think? Should I call Chase at this point and just tell them to withdraw the application? This is my first business card with Chase. Despite all your assurances I was already worried about the nature of the spend coming under the microscope...and now this. I am so tempted to withdraw it, maybe try sometime in the future and for now just get the SPG Amex business.

flow charts says that if u get the 2 week notice, ur 99.6% on approval.

Flight gets in at 11:50am PT. Tried to schedule it that way so it's a midday arrival with hopes that perhaps the congestion hasn't started yet...? Wishful thinking for a Friday arrival? o_O Thought about the BART into the city as well, but was worried about hauling around multiple pieces of luggage, so we figured we could uber, but if that's a bad time to do so, we may have to rethink this yet again.

Someone else also told us to get Alcatraz tickets early! I've been looking, but I think the earliest we can get them is either 30 or 60 days out, so we are still a while away, but I should probably check that again. Feels like the wait for ADRs and FP bookings lol.

Seems like you said SF is easy enough to navigate on foot and the hop on/hop off cars. DH is from New York originally so has a better sense of public transit than I do (I'm all about driving and my car :D). This is one of the reasons I didn't want to hoard THAT many uber GCs.
While BART certainly is a good and cheaper option, I agree that it's a pain to deal with if you have a lot of luggage. I think you'll be fine taking an Uber or Lyft with that arrival time. If you can get into the city by 2pm that will be ideal. Most people in the Bay Area have the FastTrak transponders in their cars so they don't get held up paying the toll to get over the bridge.

We have stayed at the Hyatt Embarcadero a few times. It's a great location. If you are there on a Saturday morning, go across the street to the farmer's market at the Ferry Building. Gott's Roadside has yummy burgers. You can walk all the way to AT&T park along the Embarcardero to the Giant's game. Have fun!!

Speaking from my own similarly horrible experience, I learned that "sending it up for review" usually means you'll be accepted. But I feel for you, because I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a rep who clearly wanted to earn her gold star for the day. I was also applying with a "business", and I was really put through the wringer. I needed a glass of wine afterwards. Got my CIP though!

Similar boat. I posted about my long explanatory phone call last week after applying in branch. I followed up at end of week—still nothing—and then again yesterday. I was told that both the lender and sign off senior lender approved but then it was kicked back out for verification—whatever that means. Very frustrating. I have a lot of chase cards, including a couple business, but I have a legit business with lots of schedule c income. It really baffles, but the agent didn’t seem to think it was a big deal and said just to be patient. Right, lol.

I don't believe I've ever seen a viable DP suggesting a card took points back out of somebody's loyalty account. Obviously things like MRs and URs are different but once they transfer I'm not sure how they can claw it back... I'm guessing that's part of the contract with SPG, etc. because the brand doesn't want to have the negative publicity of somebody getting points taken back :)

I'm looking at my Southwest Card details. In January family flew back from Disney and $5.60 had been refunded to my Chase card for fees due to a points seat refund. In my Rapid Rewards, no points have been taken back. But, if I go into 'Rewards Details' in my Chase account I see 'minus 12 points'. (Points credit at 2 per dollar for SW purchases.)

I'm taking that as when I earn some more points by putting something on the card, Chase will take their 12 points out first. So, they may not go into the RR account, but watch your future earnings - looks like they will make it fair to them. Now I also have a $5.60 credit on the card, so I'm going to buy something soon so I don't get a check sent to me. (I've had that happen in the past when I've left a credit for longer than they liked.)

I need some Plastiq addressing help for my mortgage payment. It's through our local credit union, Riverland. I've been making payments online and the transaction appears on our bank statement as RIVERLAND RIVERLAND CREDIT WEB. I'm looking at the payment coupon right now (since I always pay online I really don't pay attention to these things LOL). The payment address is shown as follows:
CU MEMBERS MORTGAGE
Payment Processing
Address
I obviously don't want to use CU Members Mortgage. I suppose I can just put Riverland Credit Union as the recipient. What do you experienced Plastiq users think?

EDIT to add more info.
Found this info on their website. Wondering if I should use Colonial Savings instead of Riverland Credit Union.

I've done this before when cancelling a Alaska Air card of my DH's. At the end of the phone call the agent said "have a good day ma'am". I guess I wasn't very convincing...

I've gotten away with it at work because my boss's name is foreign so they can't guess (or a least don't want to!) if it's a masculine or feminine name. He likes it, means he doesn't have to call as many places. So that helps if it's ambiguous... Pat anyone? :p
Hubby's preferred name can be short for a traditionally male or female name BUT he uses his full name on everything, at that point not very helpful for me. When he gets excited/upset his voice gets higher and could be considered a little girly; I asked him once if he'd do that on all his phone calls so I could help him out to call in for him and they wouldn't know... he declined :confused3:rotfl:

Yes, you're right they can "take them back" that way :). For those following along on this discussion - It's also not advisable to close a card with a negative point balance as that could upset the bank. I did once have a negative point balance sit on my Southwest card for 10 months until my anniv points posted, haha! Nobody ever called me or raised an issue.

The odd thing here would be in the event of a true "claw back" i.e. taking back your 35k bonus SPG points, or 50k SW points or whatever...then what?? While there are no DPs I know of where AMEX took points back from a co-brand...if anybody would do it, it would be them haha! Hopefully none of us here ever have to find out what they can/can't do in that situation.

I might need to pick both your brains on this for our end of June trip. First leg is SF and second will DL. Originally, we were planning on flying into SFO, but wasn't a fan of the departure/arrival times into SFO, so decided to ultimately fly into Oakland and taking an uber to the Hyatt in Embarcadero Are we crazy? I've been stocking up on Uber GCs whenever I can source them for a minimum of 10% off (or 5x UR) for the trips from the airport and generally around town (also for the DL/LA leg). But wondering if I've accumulated enough (may use Lyft as well)...did a mock trip from OAK to the Hyatt Embarcadero and seems like it's ~$45, though not factoring in traffic.

Also, debated between the Hyatt in Embarcadero and the Wharf that @afan is staying at for Labor Day weekend, but went with the Embarcadero despite the higher points required since it's closer to the Alcatraz and we are going to a Giants game one day. Was basically a coin flip, but DH (and admittedly, I) also wanted to see the Atrium and be closer to Chinatown for all the food lol.

Haven't looked into the Walt Disney Museum and now I guess I must :) Any other recommendations for first timers to SF? :groom:

Just a few quick thoughts:
  • Depending on time of day, traffic on the Bay Bridge is no joke.
  • If you're open to taking public transportation, you can take BART from OAK to Embarcadero station for about $11/person. The Hyatt is pretty much right outside Embarcadero station. https://www.bart.gov
  • Note that Uber rates in San Francisco are the highest in the country, but there's no shortage of Ubers.
  • I wouldn't say the Hyatt near the Embarcadero is closer than the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf to the ferries to Alcatraz. The Alcatraz ferries depart from Pier 33, about halfway between the two Hyatts on the Embarcadero. The Hyatt at the Wharf may actually be closer. You can take the Muni F-line street car from either Hyatt (heading in opposite directions) to Pier 33. Adult fare is $2.75. https://www.sfmta.com/muni and http://www.nextmuni.com/
  • The Hyatt at the Embarcadero is a short walk away from the Ferry Building, which has a lot of local artisanal craft and upscale dining options. https://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/merchants/
  • There's a farmers market at the Ferry Building on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but the biggest (and famous) one is on Saturdays. If you're foodies, it's a must visit. https://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/farmers-market/
  • The Hyatt is also very convenient to Chinatown. I'm all for the authentic experience and you can still find some of that in Chinatown, but a lot of the Chinese have moved their businesses and restaurants to the Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods and Daly City. However, you should make it a point to check out Mister Jiu's, which took over the historic Four Seas banquet restaurant space and has been winning rave reviews for elevating Chinese cuisine with Californian influences. http://misterjius.com Some of my favorite places for dim sum in Chinatown/Financial District are Great Eastern, City View, and Yank Sing. If you can make it out to the Richmond, there's great dim sum at Dragon Beaux, Hong Kong Lounge I and II. There's also the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory in Chinatown. https://freetoursbyfoot.com/visit-san-franciscos-fortune-cookie-factory/
  • Chinatown is very close to North Beach, which is a historically Italian-American neighborhood. You might want to check out the historic City Lights Bookstore right at the edge of Chinatown and North Beach. http://www.citylights.com For food, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana has great award-winning pizza! http://tonyspizzanapoletana.com We take our brunch seriously in the city and every neighborhood has one or several popular brunch spots. In North Beach, there's Mama's and I swear their Monte Cristo is better than the one at Cafe Orleans and Blue Bayou. http://www.mamas-sf.com Get there early, or be prepared to line up for an hour or more.
  • From your hotel to AT&T Park is very easy. Go to Embarcadero station to catch the Muni light rail lines N or T heading south towards the ballpark. (Embarcadero station serves both BART (lower level) and Muni's light rail (upper level).)
  • If you're planning to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum, you can probably see everything in a few hours.
  • Since you're staying at the Hyatt near the Embarcadero, there's a free PresidiGo shuttle that stops right in front of the Hyatt that'll take you all the way to the Presidio Transit Center. (It also stops at the Letterman Digital Arts Building on the way, where there's the Yoda statue fountain.) The Presidio Transit Center is right next to the Visitor Center and less than a five minute walk to the Walt Disney Family Museum. When you're done, you can take the PresidiGo shuttle back to your hotel. https://www.presidio.gov/transportation/presidigo
  • As @afan mentioned, SF Pride is on June 23 and 24 this year, but the week before will see a lot of people coming into the city for the festivities. Market Street and the Civic Center will be impossible to get around that weekend.
I've tried to avoid the usual tourist spots like Union Square, Cable Cars, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, Ghirardelli Square, Pier 39, but those are worth visiting if they're already in your plans or you have the time.

ETA: If you want to see Union Square, Ghirardelli Square, ride the Cable Car, then Fisherman's Wharf, you can do all of them in one trip that'll take maybe half a day.

From the Hyatt Regency, you'll want to go up Market Street. You can walk it (but this mostly takes you through the Financial District), or hop on the F-line streetcar for a historic experience (or ride any of the other Muni buses or light rail underground up Market). Stop at Powell Street or Powell Street station. Up the hill is Union Square and across the street is the Westfield Emporium mall. In front of the Gap is the cable car turnaround. You'll probably have to wait in line, but the cable car ($7/person) will take you up over Nob Hill and Russian Hill and you'll end up right outside Ghirardelli Square. I haven't been to Ghirardelli Square in years, but there's a Ghirardelli shop there for chocolate and ice cream that'll make a fun stop since there's also a Ghirardelli in Disney California Adventure. From Ghirardelli Square, it's an easy walk down the hill to Fisherman's Wharf where there's In-n-Out, Boudin, seafood stands and classic restaurants. Catch the F-line along the Embarcadero back to the Hyatt Regency.

Outside of the city, you can walk or (rent a bike and) bike across the Golden Gate Bridge, then return by ferry from Sausalito. https://freetoursbyfoot.com/bike-across-golden-gate-bridge-ferry-back/ Or visit Muir Woods. https://www.nps.gov/muwo/planyourvisit/index.htm

Ok. All that took a lot longer to type out than it did to think up. So I'll leave it here. If you have any other questions or want more tips, just let me know.

Yep, since it already transferred to SW you just hang out in negative until more points are earned. I think it was 5 months of a credit balance when they sent me a check. I remembered thinking I might be ok because around 6 months is when I planning to buy another ticket and would use the credit and I got the check about 3 weeks before I was going to buy.

What I've always wondered is what happens if I cancel the card while I have a negative balance? Did I just game the system or do they figure out a monetary value and charge you a fee? Or just figure out how to pull it out of RR. I haven't gone back to the fine print to figure it out.

I was going to say I've never seen my SPG points disappear in the last 20 years I've had the card. But I can't honestly say I've tracked it closely enough to know.

Right now, I've got tons of time to play with my cards and my budget, but up til I retired Feb 1, I didn't note too much unless it was really 'in my face'. The SW points were easy as my account spend and earn was so tiny.

WOW!!!!

Thanks!!! Now I want to go also!

Anybody have any experience with using a Chase portal without a Chase card? I need to do a little shopping and UR is at 5x for Sephora but my new SPG Biz is showing up today. Such a predicament. Ebates is at like 8% so I guess going that route won't kill me.

$100 soon to be down and only $6900 to go

Thanks everyone for the pep talk on the CIP. I won't withdraw it. Honestly that sounds like more of a hassle now then anything since I would have to call again and try to talk to someone. Perhaps stupidly I just didn't expect them to call like that! You all think I am okay to not worry too much on charges on it though? Any reports of people having their Chase business accounts reviewed for actual business charges? I really don't want to have an awkward phone call like that again!

It's hit or miss. I'd go with ebates.

I've only got another $4500 or so to go. Ugh!

Why withdraw it...the worst that can happen is you get declined :) Unless you need a card ASAP I'd let it play out. You have until 3/28 to apply for the SPG biz card.

No point in withdrawing, the credit pull has already hit your credit report. Just keep calling the status line. Good luck!

This (the "we aren't giving you any more credit") happened to me when I applied for the Marriott business card. (Already had an Ink Plus.) They moved some credit from the Ink Plus to the Marriott card -- do you have another Chase business card?

And going over the whole application is also not unusual for Chase. I wouldn't withdraw the application -- the worst they can do is deny it.

flow charts says that if u get the 2 week notice, ur 99.6% on approval.

@kmc8826, I'm so sorry that you're like the 1 out of a 1000 (or more?) applicants that Chase picked to manually review. I also thought of @peel's horrible experience that was very similar to yours, and she was convince she'd be denied, but she was approved for the CIP after all!

Agreed with everyone who says wait it out, don't withdraw the application. Chase has already conducted a hard pull, so the worst case scenario is they deny you. Same effect as withdrawing your application. I'm still hopeful you'll be approved; but if Chase does deny this application, you can apply again 30 days after your prior application. Chase is not known to be inquiry sensitive. On any future application, put your combined household income and perhaps up your business revenue a little more. You're a "start up" so just stick to that idea that you want to take a small side business more seriously and you need credit to do it.

I've never seen anything about Chase calling up their cardholders to inquire about the nature of their charges. Besides, you can find a justifiable "business" reason for any charges you put on a business card. Short of suspected fraud alerts or a full blown shutdown and financial review -- completely unrelated things, so don't worry -- Chase doesn't care how you use your business card.
