I love credit cards so much!

Hi! I'm a new poster, but LONG time lurker. You guys have been amazing to follow...I can't even.

I'm at work and can't keep up with how fast this thread is moving....Oh man.

Here's my dilemma I'm hoping for a quick answer.

I need Hawaiian Airlines miles specifically. I'm in 2 player mode, but DH doesn't care for the game much. LOL

We just finished the MSR on our 2 HA cards. I have some SPG points from both of our personal SPG's that I want to convert to Marriott for the Miles/Nights package, but I still need about 70k Marriott points if I do it that way.

So I was thinking of either getting the SPG Biz (spend is a little high for me) or Marriott.

DH is 3/24, I am 5/24 til the middle of this month.

Can we have a personal SPG and a Biz?

Or is there a better credit card to transfer for HA miles?

Jet blue is a Hawaiian partner if you Need another credit card

Watching this thread feeling like...

This would be me today, approved for the Delta Gold Biz!!! Now to get some spending so I can refer DH before the offer expires and meet his spend too :-)

We refinanced our car loan earlier this week, is there any amount of time I should wait before I apply for the CIP? We are almost done with the DH's Marriott Biz.

have you also considered using a CFU instead?

$15.02 ($1,001.65*1.5% back)
-$1.65 fee
value of UR $22.53
Net value $20.88

it might be more simple to use CFU than to use plastiq.

No I hadn’t. Net value is pretty close to CIP/plastiq method. Smart! I probably should add this card to my growing wish list. Have been using Discover for 2% but the first year just ended. Thanks for the idea!

Also...are you doing a CSR/CSP double dip? Just wondering what your plan is :)

Thanks! I'm actually the one who already applied for the CSP (DH actually) under the 50k offer and am now going to try to convince Chase to give him the better offer if he pays the AF. I just wanted to make sure I could actually see the better offer before SMing Chase. If I was applying new, I would definitely wait for a referral link from one of my fellow DISers. Sadly, I did not have DH go for the CSR/CSP double dip. This was my first attempt to get a card for him as a SAHD, and I was nervous about trying the double dip. That will be on the to-do list once he downgrades his CSP and he is eligible for another Sapphire bonus down the road.

Cool - good luck! :)

i believe SPG cards transfer to HA. They also go at a 1:1.25 if you transfer 20k at a time. u send 20k from SPG, 25k will arrive over on HA.

@christineinvegas ... @Albort is correct (as usual!). SPg points transfer to Hawaiian airlines at 1:1 and there is a 5k bonus for transferring 20k. SO the current SPG biz offer which earns 35k points + 7k (for the min spend) would be enough for 52k Hawaiian Airlines miles.

I agree with your thought process that cash today is generally more valuable than cash tomorrow (i.e. points), and it depends, like everything else, how one plays this game and the end goals. The reason the majority of us 'chase' (no pun intended, but then realized it lol) sign up bonuses is because of how quickly we can amass points for better redemption/return rates and value extraction. The CIP/Plastiq method is essentially another way to synthetically do that (i.e. buying/amassing points, but at a cost/discount, versus a pure 'bonus', but both with spend involved).

However, I'd also throw in the fact that depending on whether you have the inclination to transfer to a Chase partner, the 1.5 cpp could be higher and thus, making the incremental difference skewed slightly more towards the Plastiq/CIP. Case in point is my redemption for our trip to DL in June. Was able to get 2.2 cpp by transferring to Hyatt (think it is well known by now that Hyatt is a valuable redemption partner, but that may not be the case for all), so it worked in my favor. Another way of looking at is would be you are essentially buying the points at a deep discount and similar to the discussion previously on the SPG points offer that some have participated in, it really comes down to whether you feel you can extract more valuable out of the 'cost of the points' since this method allows you to earn UR 3x as fast, despite the true earnings being less on a cash basis netting the fee, but can be made up with the 1.5 redemption via CSR or transfer partners.

I do LOVE the Hyatt redemptions!! And I expect we’ll do more of them in the future. I have found though for us, that we tend to use the portal more to book vs transferring to partners. I realize thats not the best bang for my buck necesssarily; I’m not a very opportunistic traveler I guess. So even though I do sometimes get > 1.5 x, I often don’t. So I like to use 1.5 to be conservative with my calculations.

I am at the Maui airport waiting for our red eye flight. Stayed at Hyatt Recency Maui and the resort made getting the Hyatt card worth it. Will post a review of the trip when can post on something other than my phone. The offer isn't anything spectacular right now though so it is a card that can wait. (Plus it isn't subject to 5/24 so do other cards first).

I'm looking forward to your trip review, that one is on my current short list.

I always pay $1,000 at a time to spread the $1.65 fee.

In the case where you reimburse yourself the fee, you profit by 575 UR which is $8.63 @ 1.5x. Charging to a 2% card, you would make much more even after deducting $1.65.
OMG I just looked and SoCalEdison has this option. I had NO idea. Our electric bills are horrendous during summer, and even during winter they aren't cheap. Plastiq is out for this particular bill (while I'd try it the other person involved with the electric bill is a hard no on plastiq and not coming around, c'est la vie). Anyone know if it codes >1.5x on CIP or CIC (currently looking to charge on CFU...)

Also @pillow are you allowed to pre-pay your electric bills?

as an SCE customer as well who has been using visa gift cards to pay off the electric bill, you cant overpay it...
But you can tinker with it and pay with 2 cards if u need to offload vgc but of course u need to pay the $1.65 twice.

You should be in good shape if you start the process with Plastiq now. In fact, it seems Plastiq already has a lot of the big utilities set up to receive payments via ACH. When I set up my water payment, after I inputted my water utility company, it gave me the option to send via an electronic deposit/check. Payment arrived within 3 days and posted 2 days later.[/QUOTE]

Congrats on getting your CP!

As for using Plastiq to pay your gas/electric bill, have you checked to see whether your utility accepts credit card payments directly on its website? Some utilities charge no fee, a flat fee, or a lower percentage fee than the 2.5% that Plastiq charges. You need to do some research and figure out the math. It might make more sense to pay your utility directly if they accept credit cards and any fee they charge amounts to less than 2.5% of your gas/electric bill.

If you go the Plastiq route, Plastiq has a calendar available to pick when you want your payment to arrive by when you schedule your payment. You’ll probably want to schedule a payment 10 days or more in advance to pick a delivery date on or before your due date. Checks can take about 8-10 business days to arrive. For payments due on the 20th, you should have more than enough time in the next few days. I’d also add that a number of utilities are already in Plastiq’s system, and if that’s the case for yours then Plastiq may even be able to send an electronic payment instead of a check, which can take only 3-5 days.

If you plan to use Plastiq, please consider applying through a DISchurner’s link. This will give you $500 “fee free dollars” — basically, Plastiq will waive the fee on your second $500 spent through them after you’ve made your first $500 in payments.

Thanks for the responses! I will definitely use a dischurners link. Unfortunately those two companies don't accept Amex :sad2:

Also, am I the only one who has to work on Fridays? Man there's a lot of posts to catch up on! :p

An update on my attempt to get the better Amex offer on the Delta Business Gold card. I started out on chat from my account page and struck out completely, both with the initial rep and her supervisor. I couldn't even get a small courtesy adjustment. I decided to call in and got a much more sympathetic rep. She said they have a procedure to submit a request for an offer to be matched. She got a code for the better offer and submitted it along with my info to whatever department reviews and makes a determination as to whether the new offer should be applied. She said it could take 7-12 days for me to hear back. I'm still pretty much expecting a denial, but at least I feel better about the attempt and that there is an actual procedure that I am now part of. Will report back once I hear anything definitive. I also SM'ed Chase about the 60k offer on the CSP. Will report back on that one as well.

Thank you! I'm trying to do way too much today and deleted my q to pillow after seeing the were in VA. Hello fellow CA!

So you probably won't hear anything back from AMEX - that's been my experience. I would call back in 2 weeks and basically tell them that the person you last spoke to put in for it but it never posted. By taking an assumptive approach that they approved it you may get somebody to push it through.

I love me some Hyatt redemptions as well (got two for our trip to CA in June)! But I would definitely have done the same. Always better to take a more conservative approach when coming up with valuations since you just never know and timing is everything. Certainly nothing wrong with booking direct through the portal either since you get miles for airlines just like a cash booking! By having a baseline in your calculations, all you have is upside from there if the cpp redemption rate is better :) Besides, with transfers, the stars definitely do have to align pixiedust:
