I love credit cards so much!

Hate to break it to you, that is $13,000 total. lol ($5,000+$4,000+$4,000) Before he gets the Freedom Unlimitied, maybe think about what you will do with the CSR and the CSP when the year is up and fees are due. Will you keep one or both of them? That is a good time to downgrade to one of the Freedoms. Though, I think people have said they have more than one Freedom so maybe it won't make a difference if he already has one?

Oops, my math was off. The CSR fee of of $450, we will get the $300 travel credit and also global entry which is worth $100, so really the first year will be $50. The CSP is only $95. I have to carefully manage the fees so I am not gouging into my points benefits. There is also the option of getting him his own Chase United card.

The United Card has a low offer right now. Last year it was 70k points $50 credit and no annual fee. If that goes up again after you get the other cards I would jump on that instead. Your husband can also try and hit the CIC before he gets to 5/24.

Thanks! How many UR points does the CIC $300 bonus translate to?

30,000 URs - I missed that card in my initial recommendation but it would also be an excellent choice!

Also another tip - After you refer your husband to the CSP you could downgrade that to the freedom and then refer him to that too. It seems your AF on the CSP will come up in July or August anyways so this would also allow you to avoid paying the $95 annual fee (and since your husband will then have a CSP and CSR, no reason for you to keep yours).

Basically: If your husband got CIP, CSP, CSR, CIC, CF, CFU AND you refer him to CSP, CF and CFU AND you added an AU (not you) where applicable, AND you include the min. spends you would earn a minimum of 286,000 URs. If some of that min. spend is in the bonus categories on the respective cards you'll actually get more than that. Redeem those points through your CSR towards travel and you have $4,290!

I am going to apply for a CSR + CSP for my husband. I already have a CSP and I just called and removed him as a registered user. Is that all that I need to do for him to be approved for a CSR + CSP once I go ahead and apply, which I am planning to do soon.

Thanks!

Edit: He must have been an authorized user, as opposed to a joint card holder, since they let me take him off without having to speak to him. Does this make a difference? Can you be an authorized user on the card and still get one of your own, in your own name?
Were you transferred to the credit reporting side? I don't know if it automatically gets removed from his credit or how long that takes, but when I had myself removed from DH's CSP I took a week to get removed after I asked the credit department to remove the card from my report.

Wow, you summarized my roadmap beautifully! Thanks so much. Now I know what to do (and thanks to others who gave me guidance as well!) The Barclay was opened in December but to be safe I'll start this Feb 1, with the CIP application. He said he trusts me so he's letting me do this how I want. 286,000 URs + what I accumulate with spending should get me AT LEAST three Business Class tickets to London next summer.

Oh, so it could be on his report? If it's on his report it will be considered one of his 5/25 even as an authorized user? I think it's time to pull both our reports to see what's on there. Where do you recommend I go to do that? experian.com, is it?

YAY! Thank you for posting that. I'll be maxing that out on Disney GCs today. I had been procrastinating picking some more up to pay off the remainder of the China ABD which is due in a few days. Now I feel vindicated.

This would only make sense under a few scenarios to me. One, if it were a matter of lie flat vs angle flat seats and her DH is a "seat princess" like mine. But seeing as it is UA I highly doubt it. Two, the hard product is an experience in and of itself like SQ suites, Emirates, Etihad. Last I checked UA does not have a cool bar like VA. :sad2:

Hey @Albort I know you have likely the most experience on this board when it comes to flying to Asia and I know you fly Eva for the most part. If the rumors are true that I'm reading on the ABD board here on the DIS, then Japan will likely be a new itinerary for next year. Which means we will be headed back that way. I've always read the bloggers raving about about CX flights which is what I almost booked for China this year but then pivoted to SQ. I was wondering which airlines have been on your radar for Asia flights when it comes to experiencing an awesome hard and soft product. I'm not looking to save points. I just don't want to have tunnel vision and think CX should be my only option for an aspirational flight to Asia after crossing SQ and JAL off the list this year. Thanks in advance for any feedback. :flower3:

heh, id say a good 90% of Asian airlines's business class has lie flat seats. haha. UA actually has lie flat seats too, Polaris class looks super nice, but i thought it was kinda lame that its in 2-2-2 configuration... :\ My friend is flying Asiana for 180k instead of flying ANA for 120k. ANA > Asiana by a long shot!

the same friend refuses to fly CX now. She claims that its been in a decline since their glory days. Ive watched a bunch of videos on CX and soft product has really taken a big tank. My friend said her Y class seat was very uncomfortable. I think she said Air Canada had better Y class seats than them. CX imo is only good for F class, maybe J class. Not sure about availability via AS since i think thats the best way to go.

I usually tell people its best to buy to Japan with cash, its like $500 RT. but you and DH being "seat princess" UR--> Virgin Atlantic to redeem J class has always been the best way to go according to all post ive read. its like at max 120k points. you wont find anything lower than that. ANA/JAL would most likely be close to your SQ experience that you will be taking soon. heard their Ramen on board is the bomb!

heavily depends on your location. Chase pulls from different bureaus based on your state. sometimes they even do pull from 2 bureaus...

Then you'll love it even more because I missed one referral - it's actually 297,250 URs, lol! Here is a breakdown:

85k = CIP => 80k bonus + 5k min spend
69k = CSP => 50k bonus + 4k min spend + 5k AU + 10k referral
54k = CSR => 50k bonus + 4k min spend
33k = CIC => 30k bonus + 3k min spend
28k = CF => 15k bonus + 2.5k AU + 10k referral + 500 min spend
28k+ = CFU => 15k bonus + 2.5k AU + 10k referral + 750 min spend (1.5x URs)

Also if you hit some of the bonus categories on your min spend you easily could exceed 300,000 URs on $17k in combined min. spend.

When you go to double dip the CSP/CSR I would apply for the CSP first. Reason for this is if you by chance can't get both approved the CSP with the referral is worth much more to you than the CSR (69k vs. 54k points). Obviously I hope you get approved for both but that would be my reasoning on doing CSP first that day. Make sure on the cards that offer an AU bonus you use a nickname, dog name, etc. (not your name!) to avoid affecting your 5/24 status.

ALSO keep in mind the Chase Shutdown threats...Make sure you space these applications out by putting some AMEX business cards in there or cards for you.

Id wait until your husband is 0/30 and get your husband a CIP and then a CSP/CSR double dip and another 30 days.

Thanks so much! So, wait until February (0/30) for husband and apply for CIP.

Chase’s 0/30 rule for business cards is zero other applications for Chase credit cards in the past 30 days. The Barclaycard won’t count against that rule.

Yes on the referrals. And that also makes Freedom Unlimited a decent offer for you as it can be worth a total of 27,500 URs between the signup, AU, and referral.

Do we really want DH to add @mefordis as an AU if she wants to ever get back under 5/24?

I would never max out the categories on the one freedom but could use the 1.5% on the other. I feel like it's such a waste when I'm at 3/24 with them April (hyatt), Aug (alaska) and Nov (csr) but with only one UR earner and all these deals on the freedom's lately I feel like I'm missing out on a lot. Now if Best Buy actually had GOC that I could use to pay my student loan I would feel even worse but since they don't yet I have nothing to spend $400 on there. But major FOMO.

If the only other chase card subject to 5/24 I want but can't get til Dec 2019 is csp I'm starting to think it would make senew to.get the cfu.

The only other I would do is a bus card but I need to be able to make that spend. I may go for the bofa Alaska bus but that would keep me under 5 too. The only other thing I may look into is starwood if you can still transfer them to Alaska. I mostly fly them but do aa and dl as needed. Can't earn as on them any more either so I finally signed up for dl ff.

I also have a discover and barclay AA.

;) I'm assuming he'll be adding Fido Mefordis or MiddleName Mefordis, lol. Definitely don't add a spouse!

My go to is to add myself to an AU as my middle name. Has worked with amex and chase.

@mefordis

The CSP offers 5k UR for adding AUs to a card. Don’t add a spouse because that will count against 5/24. You have kids, right? Add them. Chase does not require AU’s SSN and has no minimum age limit. It’s never too early to start building your kids’ credit.

All my angst over my SPG biz card and informed delivery has it being delivered today. Or at least an envelope from Amex that shipped on the right day and cost $0.88 in postage. This hobby has made me a mail detective! Fingers crossed!

Me too! Sure hope that's what it is!
