I love credit cards so much!

I wonder if he'd set up a Venmo account, which is also owned by PayPal and I believe codes as 3x with CIP. I think the fee is comparable. Not sure how PayPal codes. I should look into how these p2p payment systems code...

Thanks, Lain. I'll do a little research. We would maybe need to wait until my husband gets CIP offer and then gets card to pay then. I have a really nice hay man:lovestruc:lovestruc

Yes, please do! 3x would be a lot better than 1x UR. P.S. I updated my post with a little more info.

My Marriott tweets seem to finally be working since I have received 50 points yesterday and today shortly after the tweet went off. (Although I haven't made any changes to it.) I don't seem to be getting points for re-tweets though :(

It took a couple days for my retweets points to start showing up. I have 850 points already from sign up and retweets.

I gotta get on this but have been so busy

In other news, DH needs a new car because we're not paying $7k for repairs on his car, even if we did get points.
So, I apply for a car loan today, they call to confirm details and ask "I can see you opened 5 new credit cards in the past year. Why is that? " :rolleyes1

Actually, your old luggage tags will work just fine for ME. You just cross out the name of the resort and write the new one in. Just to be safe, I also crossed out the large 2 letter code in the middle of the Mickey head (I was going to Coronado Springs initially so it said AK for mine but I switched to Pop which is a Wide World of Sports area one) Luggage got to the right place. BUT I had modified my reservation so it still had the same number. I don't think this will work if the reservation number is changed, as in a cancel and rebook as the original question was worded.

Good to know. IN our case, the reservation number was totally different.

If I were just to book a room, can I use UR to reimburse from it (i.e.: it codes as travel?). Sorry if that's a dumb question-- I am totally new to these points. Does anybody know if the travel agency that we can't name that has magical prices codes as travel?

Yes they do code as travel.

Eta: that agency always had better rates than UR using my CSR points. So I booked with them, paid with CSR and then took the points as cash back to pay for the cost.

Another question for those of you who have booked frequently on the UR site and/or Hyatt. For our Maui trip I am trying to book a room. I called Hyatt and was able to get the first two nights free with my bonus, but they don't have any other standard rooms available right now. So...I am thinking we will move from the Hyatt to the Sheraton Maui. When I book the room is it worth paying more for a certain room or should I just get the cheapest refundable?!? The UR site is just odd how it adds stuff like that a certain room has free wifi and others don't. I know from looking at the Disney rooms it seems like what the room descriptions don't always fit. What would you all do? Book the cheapest or book one that guarantees king bed non smoking etc. The cheapest one is categorized "VIP Resort View" and that is all it says. Thanks.

im not too sure what u say by other standard rooms but just something i experience when booking Hyatt rewards for Japan last May... Their site doesnt let u book long term if you the points are different on each day for some reason...
example, Day 1 = 17k, Day 2-4 = 15k. when u do Day 1-4, it will say no rooms are available... but if you book separately, that will work... aka Day 1(own reservation), then Day 2-4( reservation #2).

im not sure why it does that.

Smart! I was already thinking that cash back is the best use of points. Wish they had our preferred resort (Carribean Beach!)

Last question-- it's time to buy our tickets (using a combo of Barclays and Capitol One points.). Planning to upgrade to AP's when we arrive. hHas anybody recently bought tickets from Park Savers? Does it code as travel? They are significantly cheaper than UT.

I am not sure either...other than that both the Hyatt rewards site and UR site are confusing! Thanks for your response. I think my best course of action is probably to just call Hyatt and talk to them and have them look for a combination of nights using my two free nights and using points that might work.

I bought from Parksavers last Fall. They were coded as travel then on the Capitol One Venture.

I have met the spend and received the points for my last 2 cards (CIP-80k & IHG 100k) so was thinking about my next 2 cards. IHG put me at 4/24 so I was going to apply for 2 on the same day using the Reddit plan. Then I got a notice from Credit Karma stating my score had gone down. It has happened before when new accounts hit the CR, I have lost maybe 5-10 pnts. Not this time, it went down 68 pnts :scared: what the heck. I bought a car last month, and a hot tub so that hit my CR also. On top of that the hot tub is through Wells Fargo and appears to be a credit card, not a line of credit or installment loan so I'm sure that is going to count as 5/24 :guilty:. Not that I could get approved at this point. I have wanted to get Discover IT card for awhile now but held off until I capped off on Chase. I'm a little hesitant to apply given my current situation, what are your thoughts?

My thoughts would be that you should just continue making your payments on time and not to worry a whole lot so long as you are able to pay your bills.

Now may not be the right time to get instantly approved. You should consider if you have an immediate need for the rewards that would be associated with the two card application you had been considering, or if you are just into the game and the thrill of collecting the rewards. If you have a goal in mind, then that may be the motivation to try to get approved even with the drop in your score.

Scores go up and down. Is it possible there is another factor that helped drop your score? Also, a score that has dropped and is still very good or excellent may not hurt that much.

Last week I opened the Hyatt card. I think it was my best decision as I have plans to use the rewards for an as yet unopened resort in an area I visit often and once they start taking reservations, I'll be ready with points to book a few nights. In other words I'll be using those rewards next summer. Another person might have opened CSR and gone that route. But, CSR required a $4000 spend in 3 months and I'm more comfortable with the $2000 spend. I can still get the CSR or CSP, but I'll time it to upcoming expenses that I have cash reserves for (new roof next year).

Anyway, good luck with getting your score to rise again and whatever decision you make, it should be right for you.

IHG isn't subject to the 5/24 rule which I know doesn't help you now but for anyone else reading. That card could wait until one has all the 5/24 cards from Chase that they need/want. I got it when I was at 12/24. Did you happen to pay off a car loan in the process of purchasing the new car? This happened to me when I traded in my car for a newer model several years ago. The following month my score went back up. It had to do with not having an installment account for the pay off and the new loan hadn't kicked in even though they happened at the same time. Go figure. The same thing happened to DH when the mortgage was paid off. His score tanked. It went back up eventually. I'd hold tight until the score goes back up before applying. Most of the churners/hackers do 3-5 cards at the same time per quarter. While I will likely never be under 5/24 again, I'm not as aggressive. I tend to stick to about 5-7 per year.

Question:

Months back I made a reservation through ParkSleepFly for a hotel room/parking near our airport, thinking we'd fly out early the following morning. Had to pay a deposit of around $20 (19 and change), and used my CSP. Have since closed the CSP. Canceled the reservation a couple weeks ago because we're now flying to Orlando a day early.

Where/how do I receive my refund (and it says it's refundable) now that my CSP is closed?
Do I take it up with ParkSleepFly? I think the deposit was to them, not the Holiday Inn Express where we had the reservation (though I had to call Holiday Inn Express to cancel and then give the cancellation number to ParkSleepFly).

Or can Chase sort this out?

My credit score dropped 46 points after my last card. Like you, mine normally only drops 5-10 after each new card. Not sure what's going on with that. It was 800+ though so even with the drop, the score is still good. I did go ahead and apply for the Barclay arrival+ after it dropped and was approved. However, with your car and hot tub purchase, it might be best to sit tight for a bit and let the score recover some.

I am shooting for flights for my family (9) to Honolulu next Feb. I'm still a little short but it's not the end of the world if I have to pay cash for a couple. Thanks!

I know, I got all geeked up over IHG's 100k pnt offer and pushed it in front of CSP, not a good move and in hindsight worse than I could have imagined. My old car was paid off 3 or 4 years ago. I think the hot tub was the tipping point on credit. I have two mtg's (one is not my financial responsibility anymore as the relocation company bought me out but kept my mtg open and are responsible for the payments until they sell it, but it still on my CR), I have opened 4 personal and 2 business Chase cards in the last 12 mons., and bought a new car and the hot tub in the last month. I pay the balances on any cc each month. I won't be paying the balance on the hot tub because it is 0% finance for 60 mons. I'm a little worried that when the relocation company sells the house and that loan is closed I will take another hit as that is one of my oldest accounts. How long did it take for your DH's to recover?

Thanks for the info. I think you and I have been on fairly similar courses so I think had I not bought the car and HT I would have likely seen a dip more in line with what you did. I feel a little better, I don't regret getting the car (although I do regret the payments) or the HT. I'm in good shape financially but the drop put me at good vs excellent :sad2:. Maybe people will quit stealing my cc #'s now.

did u go over ur 30% utilization on any of your cards? I did 60% on 2 cards and dropped 30 points. Paying my cards off, i recovered those points.

Probably lol...my SW card I just got two months ago...Chase only gave me 2k credit limit and I needed to spend 2k. Spent it in a little over a month so yeah I did go over on that one. Should be the only one though cause all the other cards have like 20-30k credit limits. I paid the SW card off yesterday so I'll be watching to see if my score goes back up.
