I love credit cards so much!

like what @gottalovepluto said, i also count 4/24 for u. you might have an AU somewhere. i’d probably look up ur report. Call again. 5/24 only applies to 5 new card openings within 24 months.

As for your Slate Card, i believe that can be PC to a freedom card...

great idea, I was thinking of trying to change it to a freedom, but figured there was no advantage for them to change. I will update after call thanks..

What happens to current Southwest RR points if there is no Card associated with it.

They are still your points to use as you like. You just have to keep them alive by using them or buying something through the Southwest shopping portal every couple of years.

For those on r / churning (not our DIS group, this is the dog eat dog downvoting group) @SouthFayetteFan reminded people to post your Chase links to your profile (I just copied what I had put on our dischurners group) AND make a note in your flair about it. Very important now that Chase referral links are being kicked out and there is interest in the new Disney visa offer.

Argh, so hubby got his new AmEx Blue Cash this week and thought it'd be an easy minimum spend when he picked up his car from the body shop today. Just found out they don't take credit cards... any of them

We're flabbergasted. The guy says that they do a lot of insurance work and most people just sign the insurance check over to them so they don't take cards. Now I have to meet him there with a personal check as we cashed the insurance check already and he's out of checks in his wallet. Thought the only thing good about the whole situation was we'd get points... now we get less than nothing as I get to spend extra gas. It's the Christmas "gift" that keeps on giving.
(someone was nice enough to back into his car 2 days before Christmas. fortunately it was minor and he wasn't hurt but just all kind of aggravations with the holiday and our trip in Jan we didn't plan on. now this.)

Wow - that would absolutely drive me crazy! Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but anytime a larger expense comes up I'd advise folks here to check and make sure the vendor accepts card (and specifically AMEX if that's what you're trying to use because some only do Visa/Mastercard). Also, you may not have had a choice here as if you like the work this body shop does you're going to go there regardless. Either way - sorry for the frustration, that sucks!

could be ur chance to other programs! amex, citi, barclay!

yea..I will have look into other options...but i found Barclay does not work in Iowa. if I remember right, Puerta Rico or Iowa....
We do have my wife's Chase slots though..she is at 1/24...so we will probably work that angle.

Thanks @gottalovepluto! It's pretty easy to create a profile post and I'd advise everybody on Reddit to do it.

Also for those interested: r/churning did ultimately vote to KEEP referral threads there so those will continue. I've had some decent success over the years with referrals from r/churning but I've been fairly active/helpful there for a long time. Currently you can't post refermychasecard links there because they get booted. There was a post over a week ago that said they were working on it but no update yet on whether they work now or not. Those kind of links actually get booted in DISchurners too BUT I go in and manually approve any comment with that link so that it shows up :). Apparently the churning mods aren't interested in approving 200+ links every few days. Luckily our group is much more manageable ;) so I can continue to manually approve! Plus we don't have recurring refreshing threads every month soooooo that makes it much easier too.

Wife at 1/24...That's a license to APPLY right there :) :) Plus if you focus on her for the next 6-12 months then maybe you're back under 5/24 again. Win-Win!!!

I'm so thrilled to read about your trip to Antarctica. It's one of those truly magical, inspirational, awe inspiring places everyone says they'd love to visit one day but the closest they're likely to ever get is a documentary on Netflix. And you might get to catch the southern lights after having already witnessed the northern ones.

But I have two pressing questions:

1. Where in the world airport would you fly into to visit Antarctica? And that's bookable via AA? I had a colleague who visited Antarctica years ago, and I think she and her husband took a boat cruise out of Chile.

2. How the heck do you accumulate so many points and miles, and maintain them with the kinds of trips you're always taking? I get Citi AA cards are ridiculously churnable, but you're lol/24 so I'm imagining the UR points must not be coming from signup bonuses anymore and only from spend and referrals.

You know I hadn’t thought about southern lights. Not sure if we’d see them though since we are going during the “summer” for the area. I am super excited about going. Oddly enough, even after this trip I will not have visited all the continents. Africa is also still on the bucket list.

We are flying direct from Miami to Santiago Chile. Then we have a flight the next day from Chile to Ushuaia that is booked by National Geographic/Linblad expeditions. Then we will be on their expedition cruise to Antarctica.

AA miles are my main focus when it comes to using shoppers by portals. So DH and I always use the AA shopping portal and try to hit bonuses when offered. DH maintains VIP status with the AA dining rewards network program as well. We have accumulated over 1,000,000 AA miles between this and credit card sign up bonuses. A couple of years ago the AA executive card was offering 100k miles so DH and I each picked up 2 cards which was a nice 400k boost. Our airline that we selected with all Amex Plat cards is AA. We purchase AA gift cards with the credits and use them to pay for flights when we don’t want to waste miles. So we also earn butt in seat miles for those flights. It all adds up.

@calypso726 posted a while back their vacation costs for this year. She uses a lot of points, but they also have to pay out a lot of pocket for big trips, which leads to more points. Her yearly DVC dues alone are more than our whole vacation budget, and if she can pay for those and other vacation expenses and get 3-5 UR or MR points back per $ then she is adding lots of points while having fun. :-) She is a DINK so, none of these darn money wasting kids to slow her down. Haha

True. If we had kids we’d be in a totally different situation. Our mortgage was paid off a few years ago which allows us to have greater dispensable income that goes towards vacation and the retirement accounts. Also most of our vacations are Disney related so gift cards at a discount and earning 5x helps a lot. The Antarctica trip isn’t Disney so it’s going to contribute to another travel together ticket via the British Airways card.

not to mention, she uses around 500k on those Singapore F Class! So jealous.
expect @calypso726 response in a Scottish accent... ;)

Aye laddy! Ah dinnae ken yer meaning. Tis a braw hobby we have!

I've been bragging to my older daughter about our friend @calypso726 for some time now. Not only do I love her vacation life, we love all that red hair!

Hahaha! Thank you:-)

Yeah, since the other guy was a fault we did have a choice but hubby's car is the nice one and it's only a couple years old so we wanted to make sure it was done to OEM specs and went with a dealer recommended shop. (it's a good dealership, one of the exceptions to the "evil dealer" reputation around here) There were only 2 body shops that the dealer recommended and the first one was a jerk so we went to the other and didn't think much of it.
It's incredibly rare around here for someone in a large $$ business to not take a credit card so I really didn't even think about it. Since it was minor it's less than 2k, so it's not so big they wouldn't take CC but not real small either. Just so used to the plastic world now :)

So now we have two places that don't take plastic, the local grocer and this local auto body shop. We'll have to tell AmEx that we tried to "Shop Small" just went too small I guess :D

I had forgotten until now I had this same thing happen to me! Someone clobbered my van in a parking lot and took off. It was undrivable and towed to the repair place. Took them over a month to fix it and when finally I could pick it up, hand them my visa and they say "We don't take credit cards". Ummmm. what??? I had a friend take me there and luckily she didn't just drop and leave! Back home we went and then back to repair place. I can't remember the specifics if we had not gotten the insurance check yet, plus since it was a hit and run, was out the deductible, but I did not have enough money in my account to pay the whole bill. They were "nice" enough to take a post dated check. This was a few years back, so was not even thinking about the lost rewards, but was definitely worried about not having enough money in my account.

A lot of times I find myself talking about "my friend" who did ..... Usually referring to credit cards or vacation spots and it was really someone on this board and I hope the person I am talking to doesn't ask my friends name or where they live or what their job is. Haha I actually don't know a lot about my "friends" but I know about their good times.

We've go once a year and never more than that. I'd love to get in 2-3 trips a year but the logistics of an almost 4-hour flight and 4 kids & their crazy schedules just makes it seem like such an insurmountable task. We are seriously considering a move, either back to TX where are from or something SE like SC, GA or FL. If we can make the move happen, which also seems like another insurmountable task lol, we'll get in lots more Disney time :)

That 13-mo promo Disney ran was pretty great! I was ready to jump. How neat you were able to get it twice!!

I am from Charleston, SC and am trying to get back there. My goal is to get back before my youngest starts K. She just turned 2. My boys are already in the school system here in TN, so no rush on them. I can't wait to get back to my family. You'd love it...check it out!

Debating if we want to get one more set of APs (have two AP vouchers at the moment and a set of 7-day PHs that dont expire) with this price increase chatter :rolleyes1...would obviously be hoarding for future use, but contemplating if we NEED/WANT 2 sets of vouchers. Could put it towards a min spend (SPG Biz) OR buy more GCs with ChasePay for 5X UR using our 2 CFs :ssst:

Ya'll have me thinking of buying APs to save, hahaha. I have planned to start buying them when my youngest hits 40" so I can take the kids alone for a few short trips per year instead of our usual annual long trips. DH strongly dislikes the parks so this will work better for us. He can come if he wants and golf while we go to parks. Or he can stay home and work to pay for my habit. hahaha

Who has been to San Diego with kids....8, 10, 2. We are flying into ONT to visit my inlaws who are snowbirding in Palm Springs next month. I am thinking about switching us to fly into San Diego and spend a day there first. I have never been west of TN, so trying to combine things into the one trip. Not doing DL because it will be Easter and too crowded. Should we do the San Diego zoo or something instead or go straight to Palm Springs?

Absolutely! The San Diego Zoo is world class!!

Funny you should mention that! DD is looking at universities (she's a high school junior) and of course "I want out of Florida" so we likely will be paying through the nose for out of state tuition or private school tuition... as I was consoling DH I remembered "if we put $30,000 on the BA Visa [note that we don't have...yet...] we can earn a companion pass. Whoo hoo!" I think this hobby creates silver linings :)
