I love credit cards so much!

Since you people are probably way more knowledgeable about credit cards then I'll ever be, I'm hoping someone may know an answer faster then I can try and research it.

I have crap credit. I'm working on it, but it's a slow process. I know I need to get a secure card and work my way from there. Does anyone know of any that pote tially turn into pretty decent regular use cards with good rewards? Or should I just get a secure card, use it and pay it off consistently for a year and then try for a regular rewards card?

LOL. I really thought about asking him if he wanted me to just do it for him :) But I kinda used my "nagging" on a couple other things lately so didn't want to push it just for this, hehe. I'm sure I have a limit to the scheming that I just haven't found yet. So far he goes along with a lot (for him, you guys are in a whole other league he can't even fathom :D) and he does appreciate the vacations we get, but haven't been able to convince him to step it up yet. Although I'm working on it, we've got an anniversary trip in 2019 I'm starting to plan and so I've started the "battle plan" for getting him to buy things or get cards for the points we'll need.

So my even bigger laugh just came when hubby says right now "we now have SW points forever"... he just applied tonight with no prompting or reminding and got instant approved. where were ya yesterday?

Plastiq won't put my mortgage payment through using the CIP :sad1:

I'm so sorry... I know the feeling, so you have my sympathies. I would've suggested TIO, which had a pretty extensive list of mortgage companies that accepted their payments, and earned 3x on CIP, but PayPal's shut it down (temporarily?) following a data breach of 1.7m of their customers' information. I'm not aware of any other payment platform that accepts Visa (or Amex) > mortgage.

Time to refinance with Mr. Cooper? Or hit those MasterCards hard?

Yeah, this is a bummer. I was really hoping to use my Jan & Feb mortgage payments to meet the CIP spend. Then, I was planning to open up the Amex BRG that I received a targeted 75k offer and put all other spend on that card. Now, I feel like I can't do both cause I need to hit the CIP hard but BRG has to be applied for by Dec 12.

I haven't been trying any other payments through plastiq. Is it just mortgages that they won't accept Visa for? Are all your other payments (your dd's tuition, utilities, etc) still going through?

I paid last three months mortgage with my Arrival+ MC but without the promo (which I already met), there is no incentive there unless I open a new card.

Visa and Amex won't allow mortgage payments through Plastiq; there are DPs that Amex won't work with car payments either. Successful DPs seem to be exceptions to the rule. My rent, utilities, preschool tuition, student loans are still going through fine with CIP through Plastiq and earning 3x UR, although I switched our preschool tuition payments this month to the SPG Biz to help meet minimum spend.

I just had to laugh at the testing or probing card behaviors prohibition.

I know nothing about Plastiq for mortgage payments but pre-paying utilities is maybe my favorite way to meet a minimum spend. I actually told DH the other day that we would have to apply for a new card every year just to get a sign-up bonus for pre-paying the year's utilities. If I recall correctly, our utilities charged a flat fee for using a credit card, something minimal like $5, rather than a percent of the payment, so making an annual payment rather than monthly payments is more cost effective anyway (in addition to being able to help meet a minimum spend).

make sure you test it out first. I made a mistake in thinking i could do that but couldnt... :( I did find a way to pay a little more than allowed.

I know you saw this one on slickdeals, but now that I'm finally able to add my csr to chase pay, is there somewhere to see offers if they are added to chase pay or is it just luck of finding out somewhere?

I’d like to figure his out as well. Seems like luck at this point.

My hubby has given me the green light to apply for him. He jokes that he'll get an email at work that says . . ."You've been approved!" and has no clue what he's been approved for. Lol. Good thing I'm honest!

Mine too. But I always use my email address since I am in charge of all the household finances.

For those doing the new Marriott Chase offers ($10 back on $50 Lowes, $10 back on $25 Whole Foods), how long is it taking for the cash back to post? TIA!

Are these chase offers only on certain cards? I’ve never seen them. I don’t have a Marriott card.

Just curious...is anyone maxing out the Walmart.com and Best Buy Chase Pay promos? As far as I can tell, if you have all 4 UR earning cards, you'd end up with 13K from Walmart and 16K from Best Buy. It's so tempting, but I'm not currently in a position to float that much up front for gift cards. Please tell me someone here is taking advantage so I can live vicariously through you!

I have maxed out Walmart on our 3 cards by actual spending. Bought a lot of Christmas gifts there. Going to best buy today to return the Nintendo Switch I previously bought and repurchase it using chase pay. Not sure if I will grab gift cards using our other 2 accounts or not. I noticed they have SW ones, but we normally book on points. I don’t want to tie up money in Disney cards since we are taking a break for 2018. Guess I could grab some for our 2019 cruise.

as far as spouse signups....my DH has long ago gotten used to me signing him up for whatever is the 'right' card for now.... the only thing I try to avoid b/c he hates it is hom having to deal with calling the cc company for any reason.... usually it's just to cancel a card etc or something but once in a while he has to and then he grumbles. But overall he doesn't care, and trusts me enough to just do whatever I need to do. And he thinks I can magically make travel happen for free lol (I can't,but I'm good at getting the discounts)

I am so excited! I have figured out a way for us to fly Business (one way) on our July LA trip! So, here is what I am planning - input appreciated:

EWR - SAN (San Diego first for Comic Con for 3 days) - JetBlue Plus - 68k miles for 4 people.
LAX - EWR UAL Business - $2068 for 3 tickets, 60k miles for one ticket.

Now I need to accumulate a bunch of Starpoints for free hotel nights at the Delfina in LA.

Thanks so much for all of your help :)

Shoutout to whoever used my referral link on the Reddit board for the Chase Freedom! That was a nice surprise to find on the Chase website this morning :)
That's awesome!! That's a nice hit too right? I think it's 10,000 URs if I remember correctly!

Yes! I was confused looking at my estimated UR total for my next statement because I only use that card for the quarterly rewards categories, so I knew I didn't spend enough to get that amount of points on it. Slowly chugging along until I can book the next Disney trip...

Okay, just found out we have to change our dates. The UAL flight/cost stays the same BUT I am now 25k points short for us four to fly free on JetBlue. I need 25k True points STAT. Any ideas? Husband is clear to open a new card, but do we really want it to be Barclay JetBlue for 60k True points? Should we do that, then go ahead and apply for the CSR (I already have a CSP).

Also, should I go ahead and buy the Business UAL tickets now for miles/money since they may sell out that price/time? Or wait? So hard to make decisions. If I do buy them now, that will fulfill my 5k SPG Amex min spend and I'm good to start another card.

Thanks for any help!

That's interesting that you can't pre-pay. We've pre-paid gas/electric, water, and garbage pickup. And pre-paid by a significant amount (pretty much the whole year).
