I love credit cards so much!

If I buy GC, where can I go to buy them and pay with a CC? Most places now require you to pay with either cash or debit.

Sorry for so many questions, this is my first attempt at using/gaining travel points from a CC.

I know I've tried buying GC's at my local Giant, and had to pay with a debit card. They wouldn't accept my cc for that purchase.

That is so weird... I was going to ask if, perhaps, you were thinking of money orders? Almost no place will take credit to buy money orders... but if that was really a gift card purchase, I think you just hit a store with a unique policy.

It was a Visa GC. Lol Def NOT a Money Order.

But... over on the GC thread (also in Budget Board) a lot of people have been running into issues with Target and some other stores not accepting CC to pay for their Disney GC. It seems some Target stores anyways are starting to adopt that policy. Or at least they can't pay with their Red Card, as that's what a lot of people try to do.

Then I shall admit cluelessness and sit by and listen and learn. LOL :)

There are many types of businesses. Holding garage sales, selling on EBay or Amazon. My business is dog sitting and grooming. I have one client LOL Million Mile Secrets blog has a good primer on how to apply for a business card.

Ultimate reward points never expire as long as you have an ultimate rewards points earning card. The UA points don't need to be transferred from your United card to United. They just show up in your FF account.

No hit to the credit score since it isn't a new application. I already had the Chase sapphire preferred card for years when I got the sapphire reserve. I wasn't going to cancel and I knew I'd be keeping the CSR. So I downgraded my CSP to a Freedom Unlimited.

I wonder, if I downgrade from CSR to CSP after hitting min spend on the CSR, will I get the 50,000 points for the CSP after hitting min spend, or does it only work on newly applied for cards? Reason I ask, is that I'm thinking of getting the Chase Freedom now anyways, since I won't get 3x travel points to purchase MVMCP tix (doesn't count for some reason). I suppose if I open the Freedom now, I could always open the CSP after I hit min spend on CSR, and then downgrade the CSR to a UA Card. That should work too, no? I don't plan on taking any flights here soon, so it should be doable, and I doubt we'll hit $3200/yr in travel, unless we start planning annual Disney trips! Lol Hmmmmm ;-)

I think this is incorrect. There have not been issues paying with credit card or red card. Some stores are not letting you pay for a Disney gift card with a target gift card.

I understand Disney vacation account is considered travel. Can you pay for the tickets with one? You wouldn't get the bonus since the account won't be open 120 days before spending the funds, but it should be counted as travel by chase.

Yes you can use DVA to buy tickets right online it works as a form of payment

Another quick question. I'm reading now that Park tickets won't code as travel as it codes as 'amusement park', and also that anything booked or bought through a travel agent won't code as travel either. One place I read if you buy tickets through the Disney website (MVMCP for example) will not code as travel..
anyone experience this yet? I was hoping our entire vacation would rack up a few extra points, but now it sounds like it won't.

Wondering if I should buy gift cards with the CSR, then turn around and pay for the vacation (at least tickets) with the GC. That way I can get travel points

I used my CSR to put down my DVC rental deposit, through one of the rental sites' Paypal link, and it coded as travel...

Lol I'm most def still in learning mode... My brain is almost fried trying to figure out which cards to get and what to spend them on to get the most points. :)

Same for unlimited? I would assume so. Might be applying for that card now too... lol
No the freedom unlimited is 1.5x on every purchase. Freedom is 1x but has quarterly rotating bonus categories for 5x - right now its warehouse, drugstores and retail stores up to 1.5K

My Global entry application was approved. I have my interview in April.

Keep checking the website daily if you need an earlier appointment. It was April, i needed an appointment quickly since i was travelling in May, earliest was July. Was able to snag one end of April. :]

To make sense in buying gc with CSR, you must have a place that codes into the 3x category. Its def hard to find a place that codes travel and sells gift card. You may want to see what other credit cards you can use to get a better deal. For example, Freedom Card, buy GC at Sams Club, or Amex Blue cash at any grocery stores. Ive also heard of people putting their tickets with their hotel charge(magic band). Charge everything to the magic band, which is then coded down as a hotel, earning the 3x.

Its highly YMMV. You have to go and be the one to test. Sometimes they do take credit cards, sometimes they dont. I walked into a 7-11 when freedom card was giving 5x on gas. 7-11 will code as gas. I was sucessfully able to purchase a tmobile gc... the next time i went in, i did not. It varies by store(if its hard coded to say no) and sometimes, its due to the cashier as well. Your best bet to buying gc is online. You have to use a credit card online am i right? :P

The way around this is people buying vgc and using the postal office to get MO. some grocery stores also work the same too. There are recent issues though, i guess metabank gift cards arent going through.

downgrading CSR--> CSP will not allow u to earn the 50k spendings. Would suggest you downgrade your card to a freedom card/freedom unlimited instead. You can have multiple of them. save the CSP to earn the 50k when u apply for it.
U will not be able to go from CSR --> UA. It must be within product lines to downgrade. although u might be able to go from UA --> Freedom. i could be wrong about that.

From what I understand, you're better off waiting until near the end of your first year to downgrade. Downgrading immediately after getting the bonus is seen as a red-flag that the bonus was all one was after.

they wont let u anyways... but there is a way to do it. :P

I wasn't going to do that. Lol I'll wait. I'm just trying to figure out how to maximize and get as many points as possible. We have 6 people in our family to figure out airfare for. I was just wondering the best way to go about it.

Could be. I thought it was CC but then again, I read this stuff late at night and have a tendency to forget very easily. You're probably right. :)

Wow, had no idea it took so long to get this. How long after the interview does it take to get final approval?

instant. i got my acceptance email 3 mins after my interview.

interview was about 5 mins too. super quick.
