I love credit cards so much!

Do you have to keep your bank accounts open a certain time when you do bank bonuses? Does it depend on the bank? I have not done any bank bonuses, because sadly, I just don't have the cash to float, but we got a mailer for Huntington get $300 for depositing $2000, no direct deposit required. I was going to do that one, but my DD(20) just happens to have a large refund check from school she hasn't cashed so I am going to let her use it. But to get the $300 it is in an account that needs $5000 to stay fee free. She does not have that much. Just wondering when she could close or downgrade without a problem. I didn't see anything in the fine print. The $5/month fee more than offsets the lower bonus ($150) into the fee free account but I don't want her to have to pay the fee for long.

You have to read both the terms of the bonus and the terms of the type of account you open. Here's the DoC page of the only Huntington checking bonus I could find. Yours may differ so just read closely! I've personally never done Huntington.

You usually do have to keep them open a certain amount of time, but it varies widely. I opened a Fidelity account a few months ago that is required to be open 9 months, but the only minimum deposit is the $200 I had to put in to get the $200 bonus. The current Chase accounts people are doing require it to be open for 6 months, and have a $1500 minimum if you want to waive monthly fees.

My and DH's RMN offers paid out overnight as well - $80!! Time to go GC shopping again today.

Also I just booked our SW flights for May. I'm hoping that DH earns the CP early 2019, so I booked him and the kids on one reservation and then myself on another. Then if he gets CP, I just cancel my reservation and add myself as a companion on his ticket?

From the link @striker1064 posted, the newest comment said they were able downgrade to the fee free one after their bonus posted. Most likely you could do the same but read the terms of your offer because the targeted ones may be slightly different. And check the fee schedule for that account for early termination fees or other gotchas. Also looks like they give a 2 month grace period on the monthly fee. If there's nothing funky listed in your particular offer this one seems pretty easy :)

Would it be tacky to give a Visa gift card as a wedding gift instead of cash? And to make it worth my while, I guess it would need to be 2 since at Kroger I can only buy up to $100 to get the fuel perks.
I've done this :) we also received a few ad gifts too

Someone talk me out of speculatively buying Disney tickets before they (probably) go up in price next month. I didn't have any plans to go to WDW next year except for maaaaaybe MNSSHP at the end of our Universal trip. Now I'm eyeing the Undercover Tourist deals and wondering if I can squeeze in a trip next Christmas...save me from myself! (It wouldn't even be towards an MSR!)
I think they expire now... so if you aren't sure you can use them... maybe it wouldn't be a good idea? Or, maybe you could apply the value toward future tickets? I've never tried so I'm not sure if it would work.

I think I’m one of the younger people here and I know who mutumbo is so don’t feel too old.
I've never heard of him but I think it's less about age & more about whether or not you are a sports person. I watch no sports other than Yankees baseball & I know nothing about the NBA!

I took about 2hrs to get home last night, ping ponging around to my deals. It normally takes 30-45mins. Hit Home Depot, then Best Buy. Couldn't get DHs card linked to Chase Pay in time to do one on each of ours, so I just did mine. Checked with DH that Home Depot was showing as pending before I continued. Then hit Kohl's, Walgreens, and Staples. Then I told DH we could go eat at the local restaurant on the RR dining network instead of going to buy a gift card. Everything shows as pending except Kohl's, where I bought socks so I'll keep the receipt in case it doesn't show up.

  • Tues: Did HD/Walgreens/Staples for myself, bought $100 in Disney GCs and will get $30 from RMN and $5 from AMEX
  • Last Night: Did HD/Walgreens for DH, bought $50 in Disney GCs and will get $20 from RMN; Did Staples for DH, bought $100 in Petco gift cards and will get $10 from RMN and $10 from AMEX; Did Chase Pay for myself at BB with swagbucks, another $100 Disney GC; should get $10 from RMN for Kohl's (and earned $5 in Kohl's cash - it's $5 for spending $25 right now)
  • Tonight: Trying Chase Pay/BB twice, once for each of us, more Disney GCs I think; also will swing by that restaurant and get a gift card, and hope I get the RR dining sign up bonus, if not, not the end of the world.

I decided to get Petco gift cards at Staples because it's time for more dog food. They only had $25 Petco gift cards so when I got to the register the guy was like, are you doing a giveaway? Oh yes, these are raffle prizes for my business... I just told him that it's time to buy dog food and my credit card gives me extra points here. Anyways, tonight I will order dog food for ILs... It's about $120 for 2 bags after taxes, I have a $5 Pals reward, they're running a deal where if you buy 2 bags of dog food you earn a $15 gift card, I have a $50 gift card from an Amazon lightning deal (can't remember how much was left), and then I'll use the new ones from Staples. Obviously I'll end up with some left over but that's fine. And I will go through RMN because they are offering $10 back on $80+ and it does not exclude food :thumbsup2 So $20 from RMN, $10 from AMEX, $15 Petco GC, and will earn enough points for another $5 Pals reward.

And DH left on his business trip this morning - this weekend I'll add the flight to his account as they flew SW and he'll get 2254 RR pts :)

My sister got VGCs and Southwest Flights (using my points) from me for her wedding...:)

Here is my usual Historical Southwest Release Dates (for planning purposes) comment:

  • NEXT RELEASE: 11/15/18 - travel through August 5th, 2019 FYI this is subject to change
  • 9/27/18 - travel through June 8th, 2019
  • 8/30/18 - travel through April 7th, 2019
  • 6/28/18 - travel through March 6th, 2019
  • 5/31/18 - travel through January 6th, 2019
  • 3/8/18 - travel through November 3rd, 2018
  • 2/15/18 - travel through October 1st, 2018

  • 6/22/17 - travel through March 7th, 2018
  • 5/18/17 - travel through January 7th, 2018
This could be useful to approximate when your travel time may become available for upcoming releases, however they don't always follow the exact same pattern (as you can see above).

EDIT: Reversed the dates since the list was getting pretty long - made it go from newest to oldest :)

Huh that's a good idea. It's only $4,000 in 3 months and we could easily make that work.

I have another question for you or anyone who knows about Hilton. We booked a one night stay at a Hilton before our October trip. Do the points get added after we actually stay there? If I apply and get my business card can I switch the reservation to that card to get the 12x points?
You can log into your reservation and change the payment method. Points post a couple days post-stay.

Thanks, I don't see anything on the mailer but it does say Banker-Print bonus addendum so maybe they tell you after the fact. I guess she will just go and give it a try for $300. The comments were a little all over the place, but some of them were 2 years old. Looks like they do not charge an early termination fee, according to comments from 2017. She will go in person to set up, so hopefully no issues.

hahahaha, in this case it doesn't sound like you'd actually be saving. Sounds like plain ole extra spending. Generally I'd say buy them, but you weren't planning to need the tickets so don't.

Figured I'd mention something of interest on r/churning - I was having a nice PM chat with one of the new mods u/andysol1983. He and I have been "reddit friends" for awhile and I knew he liked Disney but didn't know just how much.

He's the guy that shot this video after Irma:

Neat to have another Disney supporting Mod (u/duffcalifornia is big on Disney too). From what I know, neither of those guys are active here on the DIS so they don't even know we exist. Not that I'd care if they showed up on our thread here...but I don't exactly try to invite people from r/churning to join us, LOL!

Thanks for sharing....last year we landed 10/29...the parks were pretty empty....lots of branches/trees down on the walkway between the BWV and Studios as well.
My son lives in downtown Orlando...his building was new, so luckily they didn’t lose electricity....he had a bunch of friends staying there...said the winds etc were crazy on the 8th floor during the height of Irma...

Mine and DH’s Walgreens and CVS offers went through last night! Another $40! So I’ve now done WG and CVS twice, DH only once. I’m going to hit them up again today for one final round. Still waiting on HD to post but I did that after the others.
DH and mine were processed last night also. Off to hit WG, CVS and Kohl's again today. That makes Staples, WG and CVS that I have gone through 3 times in 2 weeks :)

I just purchased my base ticket from UCT to be used to upgrade to AP. I chose hard ticket. My plan is to upgrade to AP when we go to Orlando in Dec but not activate the AP until April. I think I read recently that the hard tickets from UT now expire in Feb but the E-tickets don't expire until end of next year. you might want to check to be sure.

Yeah, that's why I sort by newest and only go back so far. A lot can change since the original post.

I'd say to ask the banker when she opens it but it's not guaranteed they actually know anything, as you know from Disney and CC reps. Just make sure she gets that addendum and account info in writing before she leaves. (when we opened Chase the banker told hubby it had to be a $250 DD. No idea where she came up with that, it either just sounded good or she was trying to 'trick' him into keeping money there; but had nothing to do with the bonus or the account)

For those waiting on the Southwest schedule release for April - I was just able to book for the week of April 13 by going through the Low Fare Calendar.

I can't believe half the flights for the Easter week are sold out already. Especially the timeframes I was looking for. I called this morning trying to see if I can get a better deal over phone (couldn't) and the agent said that doesn't mean they will stay sold out and they can't release how many tickets are left on particular flights, such as if you want to see if a certain flight has 5 tickets left for all 5 family members going.

Anyway, I was really disappointed in how little was available! I am trying to book to Orlando during Easter, probably not the best idea. The points per flight are just not that great either, ranging 10k - 21k. I thought booking right when flights released would get the best point deals. I did end up using our points, but don't have anything much to spare! I do plan to keep checking back as this agent was not so nicely insistent that it doesn't mean they will stay sold out. I don't know though, Easter and MCO?
