ok.... SO I went to Staples today to use that RMN offer along with my Amex 10% offer.... I got a metabank VGC for $200,and register removed the 6.95 fee....is there a sale I'm unaware of? I asked the clerk, and he said it was legit,it took it off. (btw we have TONS of gc's of all sorts at my Staples)

I went to Staples yesterday and have $7 RMN pending. Got a $200 VGC (love the promo right now) and a SodaStream CO2 canister ($30) with the AMEX 10% offer.

Did you buy only a VGC? I'm curious if you'll get the $7 RMN cash back if that's all you bought.

I did the staples RMN when it was $5 back. Only bought the VGC. I didn't get an email telling me it worked right away so I figured oh well. But then this morning I got an email saying I got the $5. Purchase was on Monday 9/3. I think it's very ymmv though.

When I purchased the Soda stream last week the Costco employee told me she takes the CO2 cartridges to a pawn shop for $6 refills.

I could really load up on AA miles right now.
Barclays Aviator Red at 60k for a single purchase and 95 dollar annual. This targeted 60,000 City AA offer I got and that's 120,000 just for me, add in the wife copying me and that's a potential 240k with out even considering the City ThankYou premiere at 60,000. Reason I'm looking around again after laying off for a while, is I'm building a new shed in the back yard and needs to pay off a Disney Cruise balance. Two easy ways to hit MSRs.

That's interesting about the "secret" no-fee card. I'd really like a no-fee AA card as a way to earn a few AA points every now and then to keep my points form expiring.

I agree that it seems like it would be a good idea to apply for the new card before cancelling the old card, but sometimes these credit card company rules defy logic.

Thanks for the info. I did put a very small amount of spend on the card in August (super-small -- like a few Starbucks stops) for the AA points. I'll make a few more purchases with it this weekend.

I currently have 2 Barclays cards, the Aviator and a no-fee something or other I got when I downgraded the Arrival plus in April. I actually also have a decent amount of spending on that card too, because of a bonus for spending $1000 offer.
I was having some FOMO over everyone getting the Aviator Biz cards, so I applied for one last week and got a message that they needed to do further review and I would be notified in 10 days. I decided to give them a call and they declined me for having opened too many cards. The rep specifically said "you have opened 6 cards recently, that's too many. You need to not open any new cards for a while." So I asked her how long does she mean and she said 2 years! Now, I had read that Barclays had a 6/24 requirement kind of like Chase's 5/24 but that Barclay was not consistently enforcing it. Last year I applied for Arrival+ and JetBlue when I was already well over 6/24. I guess they weren't enforcing it then but they are now? Maybe it's still on a case by case basis?

As far as I can tell, Barclays is simply citing 6/24 when they don't want to give you any more cards.

@SBWB48 and @platamama -

I bought 2x $100 MCGCs and 2x $50 MCGCs last night at Safeway to take advantage of the deal at Albertsons-owned grocery stores, going through 9/8/18, where you get $15 off 2x $100 MCGCs (each with a $5.95 activation fee) and $10 off 2x $50 MCGCs (each with a $4.95 fee), and work on my Biz Plat MSR. The MCGCs are US Bank-issued with registration at the prepaidgiftbalance site. I registered the cards with my info first. Then logged into Plastiq incognito, clicked on the card to Add New Card, clicked on +More Ways to Add, which caused the generic Masterpass button to show up, logged into Masterpass, selected generic Masterpass again, added the $100 MCGCs to my Masterpass wallet, selected the MCGC I wanted to use, went back to Plastiq to pay a student loan -- AND IT WORKED! NO ERROR, NO FEE!

As if payments in $250 increments weren't terrible enough. I've sent 2x $100 payments so far. I've yet to try the $50s, but will tonight. I still have the Safeway deal on my wife's account, so we'll have her grab another $300 worth and chip away a little more at those student loans and MSR.
Thank you for posting these instructions and to @platamama and @SBWB48 for their advice as well. I followed these instructions and was able to make the payments to my student loan, hurray! I did have a small problem when signing into Masterpass because I guess I had already linked some of my Citibank cards. When I logged in it would only show me those as options and no option to add anything else. I decided to create a new Masterpass account with a new email address and that worked for me to add the MCGCs. I'll do one more set of payments this way before the end of the month which will really help with some AMEX MSRs!
Thanks again!!

If anyone buys a $300 gift card from a Marriott front desk (without charging it to a room) and gets the $300 SPG Lux credit plus the $60 Amex offer, please post once the credits hit. I'm intrigued!

I wonder what would convince them to give me more cards then? I only have the JetBlue card with them right now. They probably don't like that I only used the Arrival+ to get the bonus then never really put any additional spend on it. I guess I need show Barclays some love by spending more on the JetBlue card. They have to get behind AMEX though as there are only so many cards I can put spend on at one time, lol!

Good for you for tackling the job! I fixed mine for a total of $6. at Lowes and another $6 from the company.
I have a Kohler Memoirs toilet and I figured out that inside the cover for the tank there is a list printed on the cover with a phone number to call for parts. I just happened to notice it as normally I would set the thing down without looking. Lowes had generic parts and their part fit - the seal. But I also needed a little pex tube that Lowes did not have. If I'd seen the preprinted parts list before I went to Lowes, my total would have been $7 - a $1 for each part and $5 for tax and shipping.

The insides had the older style giant bubble float thing...I got the kit that makes it a little more standard so when the next seal is worn out, it should be a quick fix.

I got all the hotel offers on my Cash Magnet card...nothing on the Lux.

@vanjust14 - Did you the offers for Gurney's in Newport? Tempted to make this one work.

Thanks for posting this. I am 5/24 (I think; could be 6/24) so I won't be surprised if I get declined.

Any idea whether reducing CL would be a good idea? I have two Barclays cards and both have CLs on the higher end. Or should I just worry about recent spend?

Why yes, I did! I may have to make this one work also, hmmmm....

DP: I was approved for the Barclay AA Biz card last November. At the time, I think I was at 10 or 12/24. I did have the personal Barclay AA card open as well.

PNC is easy, you can self service it from within your online account - no SM or calls needed. It's in an odd spot, click your VW account and then in the tabs on the right is "Preferences" and right there you can change the edition of your VW. You can downgrade once every 45 days, or upgrade once a business day. It even suggest to you which account fits based on a couple metrics. Mine flat out suggested the $500 basic version  Once you get the edition you want, scroll to the bottom for the "Change Edition" button. You're downgraded by the next day. Now you only need a min bal of $500 or $500 in DD's each month to avoid the $7 monthly fee.

I downgraded 45 days after receiving my bonus and have not had any issues with the bonus being clawed back. It was an easy phone call, I just asked to downgrade my accounts and they did it no problem.

ETA: Just saw @miztressuz post that you can downgrade online...even better!

@apollodi my PNC bonus last year took like 6 weeks(!) I think they batch process and I just missed the cutoff.

Thanks all! It sounds like it's too early for me to panic on my PNC bonus. And when the time comes I'll be brave and downgrade. It sounds pretty safe and simple.

I posted earlier that I bought one yesterday. I got the 'great news' emails twice, but my charges are still pending so the credits haven't posted yet. I will post again when I get my credits.
