metal cards are nice! def gonna miss my CSP when i PC it to a CFU... :\
Then again, reading about someone's metal card stuck in a parking meter made it okay for me lol

the Palladium card is probably the sexiest one ive seen... haha

I already called the 800 number and the guy said I would be hearing something when the review was completed. I might wait until I hear from them, but thank you for the updated info.

Did you ask what their recommendation was?

We've done this for every Chase personal card we have. Each time they recommend approval at a certain limit. YMMV

This was the answer that I got from the first agent I spoke to. After HUCA, the second agent explained that I'd already applied to 2 in the past 30 days and should wait a bit to reapply. Still a (temporary) denial, but I've got to say that the second agent -- who actually took the time to explain the situation -- left me a lot happier than the one who clearly just didn't want to break the "bad" news to me.

I wonder if they will swap them out for metal later? LOL

My card was waiting for me when I got home. I applied and was approved on Tues. The envelope was pretty damp so have a feeling it was on the porch overnight. There was a note included indicating they will be sending the metal card as soon as it is ready.
That's odd - the 888 number is the one I called yesterday morning.

I agree that realizing the benefits of simply signing up for and using credit cards is a mind-altering experience. I just recently got the CSP and the CSR, so I am not going to be signing up for any more credit cards until December at the earliest, but I can't help speculating about what the next one or ones should be. In addition to the two new ones, we have the Chase Ink Plus and the Freedom. We also have an AmEx Delta Gold and a Capital One card and a Citi Costco card. Because of the Chase 5/24 rule, I'm pretty sure that we should try to get another Chase card before any other kind of card. Any suggestions?

I know I really want the Freedom or Ink + (and United) but felt it was better to take advantage of the points I would get for the IHG (10 pnts @ for their hotel stays).

Thanks @Albort! But what do I actually say, "Why was I not approved?" I have not received an actual notice yet.

would suggest Hyatt card over all those cards since the redemption rate is the best on Hyatt. But in all honestly, if you have a loyalty to a certain brand, it doesnt hurt to just get that certain credit card... Do it for the status! :D

Maybe I should have gone with the Hyatt card as I am paying for 10 rooms (for my family members) for my DD's wedding on the 24th. But the 10 pnts @ $1 really had me on the IHG card since I will be staying in a Holiday Inn Express until 10/30 (not a brand favorite but the best/newest hotel in the area) I will be relocating to. I could see myself closing it after I use the pnts., that's if I am even approved. Would this type of card work for swapping out toward a different Chase card in the future like the United or Hyatt (the way it has been suggested in previous posts for CSP to Freedom)? Thanks for your input/advise/time :)

You can call and say you wanted to verify if there was some way you could expedite the approval process. At that point the analyst will look through your application and let you know where things stand and why. If it is a matter of reallocating credit or closing an existing card to open the new one you can do that. This is always the case for my Chase cards before 5/24. If it is a 5/24 denial have your credit report in front of you and go over open cards in case any of them are AU which aren't supposed to count. It could be due to a mistake on your credit report which happened to my mom earlier this week.

Excellent thank you!

A few random questions for the experts here:

First, I added my daughter as an authorized user for the new CSP account, so she would have a CC in case of emergencies at school. Interestingly, her card is the same card number as mine. Is this usual for an authorized user on a Chase account? I am pretty sure the authorized users on our AmEx account and Capital One account have different card numbers. The main reason I ask is because there is a 5,000 point bonus with the CSP for adding an authorized user and making a purchase -- but how will Chase know if the authorized user made a purchase if the numbers are the same?

Also, still thinking about the next card (I feel like such an addict!). Before making a decision, I am definitely going to sit down and make a chart comparing the hotel cards. It does seem that the airline cards would be more suited to our family's particular travel needs, so I'm wondering, between the United card and the Southwest card, any big advantages or disadvantages to one over the other? We actually had a Southwest card but cancelled it several years ago when Southwest cut way back on the flights from our area. Still don't fly Southwest a whole lot, although we don't fly United all that much either. Are the points from either of these valuable to transfer?

Yes, that is typical. AU accounts on our Amex cards have different numbers but the Chase accounts are the same. Not sure how they know the AU made the purchase but I have received the bonus points when signing up a family member for an AU card.

Don't feel bad. I'm always thinking about the next 5 cards LOL Waiting a year for my next app to get the CSR is likely to cause withdrawal symptoms of some sort.

Yes, a few. While the points from either airline cannot be transferred to another airline, on United you can travel on their airline partners using your United points when there is availability. United is part of the Star Alliance which consists of 28 airline partners. Of the 3 airline alliances Star Alliance is also the largest. Holders of the United credit card are also able to see award availability that is not open to non card holders. This is the only reason I keep the card.

Southwest has no airline partners. Both have reward miles that can be transferred to a hotel program albeit at a very poor rate though.

If you are torn and want more points that can be used on United or Southwest I'd advise going for the CSR card. After the year is up if you don't wish to keep the card downgrade it to a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. This is what I intend to do next August when I can apply for the card since I will be under 5/24 at that time. Only, I will be keeping the CSR and downgrading my CSP for a Freedom Unlimited since I already have the Freedom card.

Another valuable all around card is the Starwood Preferred Guest. While it is technically a hotel card the points transfer to over 30 airlines across different alliances most at 1:1 and you also get a 5,000 bonus for every 20,000 points you transfer.

You probably get a better deal(group rate) with a 3x travel on CSR... if @ $100 per room, $1000, thats 3k in points! haha. Marriott does give u 5x on Marriott reservations... Im more curious if you can book 10 rooms with points though haha. I did check out Holiday Inn, their redemption seems not bad, however Hyatt higher quality imo. Room rates for holiday inn are like $100(for example that I've checked), 15k points per night(.006 per point). you probably can redeem cash for a better rate of $.01. you can get a Hyatt room for the same points. They both are fine though, unlock Marriott which is all 25k+ for a room instead of 15.

I wonder how long that card will be around... Starwood merging into Marriott is very very tragic! lol

I've been wondering that myself. Until we know for certain DH and I are still putting all non bonus spending there. If it turns out that the card will go away then I will likely transfer all of our SPG into Alaska miles due to their amazing airline partners.

A friendly FYI for those who are newer to this hobby and trying to make the spend for a large bonus. The 3 months you have to make the spend is counted from your approval date not the date you activate the card or statement date. The spending requirements also must post before the 3 months if over. To make sure I keep within 3 months the clock starts ticking the day I applied and I want to make the spend at least 2 weeks before my three months arrive. I always have a cushion that goes beyond the exact spend requirement and annual fee. Hope this helps.

I did this, this AM and spoke with a great rep. He indicated that I was denied but didn't think the reasons were valid from what he was seeing. He did ask questions and recommended approval but it still needs to go to some other person or dept to approve because he can't approve that limit. He said that could take 7-10 days. I asked if could reduce the approval amount and just keep the approval in his court and he said no because it is the overall limit not just this specific card limit. I explained the reason for the expedited request and he said to call back in the middle of the week and he was sure they would be able to help out with expediting. I understand I am not yet approved but seem closer than I was before. Greatly appreciate your help!

You might be at your maximum level of credit they are willing to extend. I would call back and offer to shift existing lines of credit or close a card to open up the new card. You need at least $10,000 in credit to open up the CSR. Offering a lower credit limit for the card won't help. If they are not willing to extend an additional $10K of credit because you are at the max of what they will allow you, then your only option is to move lines of credit from existing cards. This was also part of the case with my mom last week. He was going to send it up with a recommendation to approve to a secondary analyst. I asked what did they need to open up the card and he said $10K. They offered to close two of her existing long term cards and I said no because that would affect the overall age of credit on her score. So we closed her BA card and used the $5,000 limit there and then shifted $2500 from her credit limit on her Disney Visa and $2500 on her United card. That gave him $10K to open the new card and he did not need to send it to a secondary analyst to approve an extension of more credit.

I'm a little confused on the point value process, I think I need to dig deeper into understanding the trade in/transfer values. My ultimate short term goal is to get free airfare for a trip to Aulani for my family (6 adults + a 3 and 5 yr old), in two years. My 1st choice will be United because they are the only airline that flies non-stop from my area. (per your advise in a previus post I will work on back-up options using SW and Alaska down the line)

I chose the IHG card before the other options because they give you 10 pnt for every dollar spent at their hotels which should come to 60k-80k points by the time my apt is ready, plus the 60k bonusfor spending 1K in the first three months. So within a couple of months I will have at least 100K pnts from my CSR card and approx 125K of IHG pnts which I planned on transferring for use on United. I didn't take into account, but obviously need to research what the IHG pnts are going to be worth toward United (or other) airfare. If the rate is not favorable I can fall back on my CSR for my time in t e hotel

Did I screwed up by going with IHG first rather than Freedom, United or Ink +? Thanks

My CSR was opened for the amount over the 10k LoC minimum he is recommending for the limit on the IHG card so shifting the credit line could work but I'm not sure I want to reduce my CRS to 10K in favor of IHG, if it was for the United card I would definitely do it but I think the IHG has short term value for me. CSR is the only other card I have with Chase so that may be my only option.
