I love credit cards so much!

Does anyone know if/when the CSR 100,000 miles/travel credits would expire? I don't have a trip planned for next year, but 2018 looks promising. If I signed up for the CSR now, then waited until the 2017 annual credit is credited to our account, giving me the benefit of the ywo years' $600 in travel credit, and then downgrading to a lower no-fee Chase card before the second $450 annual fee is charged, would I still have those 100K miles and the $600 in travel credits to use, or must I use them before I downgrade to a different card?

they will still remain in your account but u wont be able to transfer them into any other programs without the CSR/CSP/Ink+.
im unfamiliar with how the travel credit works, but i think they give those per year, so if you dont use it, it wont carry over to next year... You can however, purchase airline gc with it(YMMV).

get the CSR now, get the 100k, apply for the freedom cards, earn points with those... when 2018 comes close, get the CSP 55k(if it still that high) or Ink+ 70k, 100k+55/70k, all other freedom points together, u have a big pool of points to play with! Now that i think about it, maybe u can go the other way, CSP first, get 55K, earn more pts with freedoms, then get CSR, earn 100k + $300 in travel credit...

I have a question about the AUs.

Almost every credit card that DH and I have he have the same card in both names. Is that the same thing as an AU? For example, DH applied for the Southwest card and I also got a card from his account in my name. As far as I know, we didn't send them my SSN or anything for it, but I could be wrong about that. Then I applied for the SW card and DH got a card from my account with his name, etc.

Is that the same thing that you have to pay $75 for with the CSR?

Thanks!

Yes. Getting a card on someone else's account in your own name without submitting an application is an AU. CSR charges $75 for an AU to get a card. Amex platinum charges $175 for AU but you can get up to 3 for the same cost.

This just bit me in the butt: I didn't realize that the AU on the CSR cost an extra $75. I still come out ahead with the 2016+2017 travel credit, but I want that $75 back, dang it! LOL

Speaking of kicking me in the butt  I do believed I over-hoped...

I had getting 6 people to Barcelona 1 way in Economy nailed, so OF COURSE I had to figure out how to get us all there in BusinessFirst, right? Somewhere I got it in my head that I could transfer up to 25,000 miles to someone else -- this was how I was going to top-off my parents 35,000 credit-card bonus miles to the 57,500 required for Business Saver fare.

Yeah.

After talking to a VERY annoyed CS person at United, I learned it costs $15/1000 miles transferred plus $30 transfer fee. Now I'm looking at $705 to transfer enough points to my parents. :sad2:

Is my only option trying to convince them to take out a CSP to get the miles they need?? My folks are VERY credit score leery, and I'm not sure I can convince them of that -- let alone trying to get them to manufacture enough spending for the $4,000 they would need to spend this statement cycle.... yeah... So bummy :(

While you can't gift them your miles without an exorbitant fee, you can book their flights with your miles. So maybe have one parent book one flight with the existing miles in their account and then book the other parent with your miles. DH and I have separate FF accounts but we rotate booking airfare for the two of us at once. It's easier than risking an award fare disappears while I am in the process of booking each ticket.

They are earning their miles from two United MilesPlus cards. Can those be pooled? This is an awesome and clever solution if the credit cards cooperate!

If the United miles are going to different United frequent flyer accounts then no. It would be the same as trying to share miles from your United account to theirs. Had they gone with the CSP card or the CSR card then the UR points could have been pooled to one UR account and then transferred to one United FF account.

Yes, this is exactly the problem I ran into because... well, because I'm a noob LOL. I collared my mom at before dinner, though and convinced her that the CSP was a good idea to solve this little problem. I helped her apply after dinner, and she was accepted! Now I just need to come up with a great way to help my dad spend an extra $4,000!

Thank you SO much for all the ideas and help!!

Don't think of ways to spend an extra $4000, think of ways to utilize the CSP for the $4000 they already were going to spend over the next 3 months!

Yes, indeed! Except I am pretty sure my folks don't spend that much in things that can go on credit cards... I was thinking more along the lines of invoicing them for a fabulous new artwork created by my son. It comes with a cash-back guarantee. I'd have to eat the PayPal fees, but that is the best fall-back plan I have found so far.

If your parents pay estimated Federal Income Tax , they can reroute payment to "PAY1040.com". I have used it several times for manufactured spend. There is a very small fee, like 2.5% last time I used it. Check it out on the Frequent Milers blog.

Ok I called.... and was told 'no'..... but at least I know why now! I am at 5/24 for another few months due to some 2014 AU cards. Yes, 4 of my 5 are AU and I was told no, b/c I had personally used the Au cards. But CS was super friendly and helpful, so I won't hesitate to call again if I ever need to. Thanks for that number! I will just wait till those drop off to apply anywhere again..... UR points don't expire just be sure to transfer them/keep them in an acct with a UR card that is open

If i were me, I'd get both and learn all about manufactured spending :teacher: Just make sure you combine the MS with real spending.

If that isn't an option, consider the fact that we always see the SW cards pop up with an offer of a 50K bonus from year to year. This is the first time any Chase UR card has been offered at 100K and it is likely a limited time offer and very possible something that won't come around again.

I've been dipping my toes in the MS waters, but I don't know if I want to focus on 3 cards at once! You're right about the CSR though...I think I'm going to go for that, and if I don't get approved the point will be moot anyway.

My CSR arrived this morning via Next Day Air!

Just had a waiter, yesterday, take our CSP and said "umm is this a real card? Where are the numbers?!".

Love the metal in the card. Makes it seem more legit.

Oh have you read about the Visa Infinity benefits?! OMGG!!

LOL I paid off part of our cruise today, and when the TA asked for the three digit code, I couldn't find it! So embarrassing! LOL I didn't find it until later when I was nearly ready to throw it out the window in frustration: it is engraved (rather than printed) into the signature panel in such a way that I can only see it when I hold the card to the light just so.

I like the metal-heft of it, too. Weird, perhaps, but I find the CSP prettier than the CSR.

Im not a fan of metal cards anymore after someone posted that they stuck their CSP into a parking machine and it got stuck in the machine... lol

Current data points suggest HUCA (hang up call again). Tell the next analyst that AU cards are not supposed to count in the 5/24 and that you have only opened up one card. This has worked for countless people according to the mega Reddit thread and comments on the numerous blogs I am following.

I can remember one year during F&W at Epcot a CM told me they don't take the type of card I had. It was a CSP. I asked, "Do you mean Chase credit cards or Visa cards specifically?" He looked at me like I had 3 heads, probably because I was laughing. I wound up just asking him to please run it since it has been working fine all weekend and worked fine at the last kiosk and because I was pretty sure Chase and Visa did not suddenly end their relationship with Disney in the last 10 minutes. He seemed genuinely surprised that it worked.
