I love credit cards so much!

If I apply and get approved today for SPG Biz, will the 3 month MSR period start today and end approximately July 18th?

I have SPG personal and biz. AF for SPG personal will hit this month. I was going to cancel but now I’m not sure. They are adding a free night to this card too? Anyone think there might be a bonus to upgrade to a new Starriott card? Otherwise I’d be applying for the new card. Keep or cancel?

Personally, I'm in the cancel camp. Assuming the free night won't come into play until next years annual fee hits, that is potentially $180 in fees for that 'free' night - you could potentially cancel after next years AF and get it refunded, but who knows how quickly the free night will post. I just can't see myself using the SPG Personal for any spend, so I think freeing up a slot for another Amex product is a better option for me.

As for the 'upgrade' bonus - has there ever been a time when the upgrade has offered a better bonus than applying new outright? I know for some the upgrade may be more attractive due to 5/24 considerations, but otherwise I would expect to see a larger bonus for new apps.

I’m at the same spot. I’m at 4/24 and haven’t gotten the CSP/CSR yet. The plan was to double dip after one more Chase Biz card. I’d love the SPG personal but I can’t get it over the CSP/CSR.

OMG maybe I should cancel my trips and book this!!!

No kidding! This put me in "where can I go use this" mode - lol. I read somewhere that the new cat 8 won't be added till 2/1/19, so we should have until then to book. You can book almost a year out, so it would be good on reservations up until 1/15/2020.

The rumor is that the signup bonus on the SPG cards will decrease. (I say rumor but I guess this is pretty much accepted as fact at this point - the only question is WHEN will the offer decrease). The 25k biz offer is a good deal...but when comparing it to a CIP or the current 50k CIC offer it'd be a toss-up in a vacuum. Of course the CIP and CIC offers should be there later and the SPG offer will not. Whether it's a good or bad idea really depends on your goals and what you plan to do with the points. The unknown here is what categories all the hotels will fit into as well - that could really affect the redemption value of these SPG/Marriott points. It's a tough call but you probably can't go wrong either way.

very very very very very very very very soon.
Canadian SPG cards are listing statement credit already.

Saw this on /r/churning: Per Frequent Miler, “I’ve learned from a source that the offer will be changing on or after April 19th.” So it looks like TODAY 4/18/18 is the last day to apply for the 25k (public) or 30k (incognito) Starpoints offer on the SPG Personal card before it changes to a $200 statement credit tomorrow.

ETA: I don’t know what this means for the SPG Biz signup bonus, but a change to that card may not be too far behind.

We stayed at Westin Bayshore pre-cruise in 2015. I loved the location as it was next to the park (I would run and/or walk in the mornings). We had a juliette balcony with a nice view of the water.

See page 2 here for a few room pics - https://www.disboards.com/threads/pillow-family-alaska-canada-mega-trip.3430739/page-2

This summer, we are staying at Marriott Delta Suites - just a few blocks from the cruise terminal. There is another Marriott close by (the name is escaping me at the moment), but the beds (and room as a whole) are smaller vs Delta. The Westin was booked for our dates, or I probably would have booked it again simply due to location.
I have Hyatt points specifically for this trip but the Westin has gorgeous views. I will have to go back and read your whole TR. Is there a shuttle to the port from the Westin? We’re you able to see the Wonder coming in to port?

That’s the way I’m leaning also. I’m over 5/24 anyway. Not sure this would make much difference unless the upgrade bonus is nearly the same as signup.

I wonder if the SPG biz will change tomorrow, too. I need to make a decision ASAP on getting one for DH.

My Hilton Amex Ascend AF just hit - I'm thinking of cancelling. Just seems a lot harder to find value for these hilton stays recently. We don't tend to do a lot of high-end properties, most of our stays are Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites. Anyone got any compelling reason to keep this card?

@Lain I need some Plastiq help. I would like to make a car payment to my credit union. When I try to use Amex, it’s says not supported, although other cc are. Is there a way to make it work? I need to pay it specifically with Amex for MSR.

Amex gives you 92 days from the approval date to meet MSR. When you get the card and set up your account, you can open a chat with Amex to confirm a specific date. Good luck!
Wait, maybe it varies. I guess I will have to try my luck and see what I get.

Well I got up the courage to apply for my first business card this morning and am stuck at the second item I have to enter! My name (just first and last legal name) is too long to be entered into the "Business Name" box. Any ideas from the pros?

Yeah... Amex doesn’t play well with car payments. We’d have to get creative with your recipient name like with mortgages (another unsupported payment type). What’s your Recipient name and address?

Access Credit Union, street address, not PO box

Which card? I did Amex business name with just last name.

I try to read everything, I swear I do LOL, but could you refresh what is a charge and what is a credit with AMEX? DH and I each have 5 total, Delta personal, 2 Hilton personal, Delta and SPG Biz.
Also, is the existing SPG Biz going to come with a free night in the future?

Charge cards require you to pay the balance in full each month. I haven't had a charge card in quite some time so I forget how you'd see it on the statement, but you'd either have no minimum payment listed OR your minimum payment is your full balance. I think all the ones you listed are credit cards, I'm pretty sure all the co-brands are credit only.

Charge cards are the traditional AmEx cards, the Green Gold Plat. I thought they had them categorized on the AmEx site when you were looking at the cards but a quick look and I'm not seeing that filter.

For the SPG Biz, that's how the email reads that I received from SPG. The existing cards get the free night.

ETA: Had to select "All Cards" a couple different ways before the page with the Filter popped up :) You can choose to view only charge or credit cards that way to see which is which.
