If you have a 35k SPG support link out there, please remove it From HERE :) Those have expired and we don't want anybody newer wondering why all the SPG links don't work (or not using a link at all because they think they're all broken). If you have a working 25k link you can definitely leave that up :)
Also check all your Chase links. The old CIP links finally bit the dust this weekend as well as CFU (I think- hard to keep track, but I think all old links are finally dead with chase). For those having issues with their AMEX links as showing unavailable when you know the offer is still live try clearing cookies and then check your link, I remember having issues checking amex links a little while ago when my links were still good, it was just a cookie issue on Amex side.

As a sewer I am super curious why you are selling sewing machines on eBay. Are they new or your old ones?

My bestie owns a sewing machine dealership. She has about 30 machines that she used as class demo machines (so a few hours use), so they are open box. Under the terms of her contract with the sewing machine company, she isn't allowed to sell the machines online. So we worked out a deal. I post the machines on eBay and when they sell, I "purchase" the machine from her (using my CIP getting 3x URs through Venmo) to sell to the eBay buyer. We then split the profit, which is about $150 per machine for me. She actually mails the machine out to the buyer. I just handle the eBay posts, questions and getting the payment to her. All of the profit is going towards my DVC fund so I can buy a new DVC contract. It works out pretty amazing for me. I am hoping we can manage to sell a lot of these machines.

You are in good company here - you know things are bad when you have a stash of gift cards you don't want to spend 'cos you won't earn any points. :guilty:

Totally! It's really a mental struggle. We were fortunate enough to win a couple hundred dollar VGC at a company function. So we splurged on an item we wouldn't normally buy (but had wanted for a couple years) but didn't have the VGC with us. We got the cashback on it and then I'm supposed to be using the VGC to pay for normal stuff to offset it, but I haven't done it yet because I keep seeing all the points or CB I'd be missing out on. And now I've got a MSR to hit so it'll be collecting dust for a little while longer with the rest of the stash.

As long as it's a working link no worries :) (yours works when I click it). Basically, we just don't want dead 35k links hanging out over there.

Yeah, I had heard AmEx was sometimes hit or miss with crediting the points and was more wondering if there was more success getting credit with a particular link type. I had noticed there are different formats for links, and aside from personal preference, wasn't sure if there was a reason for it :)

The pile of shoes is what got me too! Only thing that saved me from being a complete blubbering mess is that my oldest was 2 and I was pregnant with my second. I had my hands full trying to keep track of D2 and couldn’t read everything.

I got news this week that I get to go to DC for a conference in August. Hotel is the Watergate. Sounds cool but I am a little bummed it isn’t a chain that I can be gathering points for....and I am just crazy enough briefly have considered finding another hotel instead of the conference hotel just for the point angle. I will probably let it go but am going to be sure at least with the flights I get some miles!

I travel to lots of conferences. Since my focus is always SPG points, I often stay at an SPG hotel instead of the conference hotel. Sometimes there isn't an SPG hotel within walking distance or the local mass transit isn't great, so my plan doesn't work. But more often than not, I book an SPG hotel for my trips. My favorite in DC is the W. At the government rate, it is usually cheaper than the conference hotels. And they treat you so well at the W.

JetBlue Transfer Bonus from ThankYou points.

I couldn't find this in search, but just in case anyone has some Citi TYP they don't know what to do with, there is a 30% transfer bonus until 5/19. If you hold a Thank You premier card, that gives you 1040 TrueBlue points for every 1000 TYP. Usual transfer ratio is 800 TB for 1000 TYP.

FYI - I think the last time Citi ran a JetBlue transfer bonus it was 50% bonus, so this may not be the best deal, but if you need JetBlue points imminently, then might be worth it even at 30%.

Late Easter dinner at oldest daughters tonight due to the birthday party she had to take her little ones to first. Who gives a birthday party on Easter? Never mind answering that - obviously people with birthdays on Easter! My son's birthday is April 7, so on occasion he has had his birthday fall on Easter Sunday. We should have planned a cake for today and we could have taken care of that.....

Anyway, took a break from Disboards to go make the requested dish I have to bring and to assemble my new New England arbors planter box for my deck. That's all the work I'm doing today - I'm done for. Yesterday I repaired my storm door with a new handle and touch up paint - that took me all day. Good thing I'm retired cause I would never make a living as a handyman, I work too slow and I want it to be perfect when I'm finished.

The planter box is what I'm hoping I get the $50 credit for from Costco/Visa checkout. It matches my deck almost perfectly - very happy with it other than the 'some assembly required'.

I mean, $287 direct flights from Dulles to LAX that would put me into LA at 8:30 AM? I don't even know if I can pass that up!

the only thing wrong with that plan is having to go to Dulles - otherwise we can use another DL trip report!

And, don't you have some kind of points you can use????

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. I value URs much higher than that because of the ability to use them for first/business class seats. My calculus is more like $.02 minimum for using URs--and I probably wouldn't even do that--or I pay cash. For our China trip, I converted them for something like $.06-$.08 for our RT in Business Polaris (going west) and First Class Polaris (coming back east). I don't even like transferring them to SWA because the value is typically only $.016-$.017. It is funny how we all do things so differently!

You and I value URs the same way. Generally, I am looking at a .02 value. But, once in a while I will redeem at the .015 because it was convenient and I don’t want to outlay the cash for “that” particular trip. Iceland last Thanksgiving comes to mind. We didn’t spend however many thousand dollars for lie flat seats and used UR points to pay for the flights. But then that left us with the ability to book private tours with Ice Limo instead.

What is going to make you happiest? That’s your answer. I’m, mostly, all about the math when getting a card but in analyzing redemptions (I do get bonuses without plans for them sometimes) I’m all about what will you enjoy the most? Will you have the most fun knowing the dining plan is covered? Do it :D

I think that is the most important thing to keep in mind. For me that can fluctuate and a redemption based on mathing might make me the happiest. But at another time it might be convenience, and other times it might be, “ Yay, I didn’t have to pay real money for that.”

It's not like you are spending the money out of your bank account or out of your monthly budget. Points are more like 'found' money that can be used extravagantly for experiences that if you were going to use cash for, you would probably deny yourself and be more budget conscious.

This! The main thing that we use points for is to give us experiences that we would not likely pay real money to have. Sometimes it is simply more travel, like this long weekend trip. We would not have chosen to do a weekend in DC if the hotel wasn’t all but free as well as the flights. For our regular big vacations, the points allow us to upgrade our experience and make getting there and back, part of the vacation experience.

@calypso726 - glad to see you are enjoying DC! And sorry you probably have to wear a coat, as the weather can't stay the same for 2 days in a row right now!

I cried my way all through Holocaust when I went with my brother and sister in law years ago. It started when I came to the big pile of shoes. (If they still have?) That's when I lost it. I had always avoided that Museum up until then as I knew it would be hard for me to handle. But I'm always glad that I went.

And the magnolia trees - I don't think I remember them so I'll watch for them first chance I get. One of my neighbors had a beautiful tulip magnolia but when they moved and sold their home a speculator came in and bought it and almost immediately cut the tree down, I guess in his eyes for more curb appeal. I will admit they are kind of messy. But beautiful!

Oh don’t be sorry. We hardly ever get to wear coats and winter gear at home. I actually brought 3 coats for a long weekend! DH brought two.

The shoes are there still and that was rough. My SIL warned us to bring tissues and then immediately go do something fun and lighthearted afterwards.

I imagine they are messy but I wish we had them at home anyway. They are so pretty!

The pile of shoes is what got me too! Only thing that saved me from being a complete blubbering mess is that my oldest was 2 and I was pregnant with my second. I had my hands full trying to keep track of D2 and couldn’t read everything.

The rail car hit me pretty hard. Who am I kidding, the whole thing hit me hard.

Why am I pricing a trip to Disneyland for the end of July to see all the new Pixar stuff... I blame everyone on this board!

Makes two of us. Some of our friends are going so of course I thought, why not. I’m trying to rein the urge back in since we are going next month. Instead, I’m going to try to focus (squirrel!) on where to go next year with IHG. I’m thinking maybe Mardi Gras. Must do some research.

These "last chance" credit cards are making me a little crazy. I decided that I was not going to risk the IHG card because of being something like 15/24 -- I don't want the card enough to risk a Chase shutdown. So, to console myself, I applied for the AmEx MB Platinum, which is a good deal but probably means I will need to get the regular personal Platinum before the end of the year, otherwise when the MB converts (to what everyone seems to assume will be the regular Platinum) I will not be able to get that sign-up bonus.

Did you already get approved for the MB Plat? There’s chatter on the churning subreddit that holding the MB Plat will cause a subsequent personal Plat application to be auto-declined.

I did already get approved. From what I had read, the concern seemed to be that in January 2019, the MB will be converted to something else, which everyone is assuming will be the regular Plat -- and at that point, you can't get the bonus for the regular Plat because you will already have it. Are there data points of people who have already been denied for the regular Plat bonus because of having the MB?

Unfortunately I don’t really have much in the way of points other than UR. We don’t fly much when we travel, so I don’t have any airline points accumulated to speak of. I do have enough in Disney gift cards I’ve earned to cover two days at the parks for two people though. The Marriott options nearby don’t like great as far as point redemptions, but I think I will have a free hotels.com night accumulates by then that I could use, so that could be another cost-saving option for us.

I wouldn’t be so keen on going back to Disneyland but DH and I both would REALLY love to see all the Pixar stuff and the Paint the Night parade again, plus the new castle show.
