I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Currently in Hiroshima. JAL business class was excellent and loved the A350-1000. Got some sleep but most importantly no back pain. Transfer to domestic flight was fine (just had to wait for the transfer desk to open in the morning).

Have 2 rooms at the Sheraton Hiroshima but one has a musty smell. Rooms are right next to each other so one must’ve had a water issue that they didn’t remediate properly. Going to take the Shinkansen today to Okayama for 1 night and visit Kurashiki before moving on to Osaka.

Time for my latest "What Card Do Y'All Recommend?" post.

So I unfortunately don't get to travel as much as I would like to and tend to be a points hoarder so I usually aim for cash back unless I can find a card with a good SUB or some otherwise cool perks. All of my spend right now is on my Citi ShopYourWay where I am getting 10% cash back on Gas, Groceries, and Restaurants which are my main expenses as well as 10% back at hardware stores and 5% back in travel and entertainment.

I have a car insurance payment and a deposit for a Disneyland trip to put down so should be able to hit MSR of $5,000. I guess this card would really be for racking up some quick points or a quick reward rather than a daily driver if that makes a difference.

My current card portfolio is:
CF
CFU
CSP
Ink Business Cash
Disney Visa
Hyatt
United Explorer
JetBlue Plus (probably gonna cancel)
Hilton Surpass
Citi ShopYourWay (cannot underscore how amazing this card is when you get offers on it by the way. It has become the card I put all my spend on)
Citi DoubleCash
AMEX Blue Business Plus
AMEX Amazon
Amtrak
Verizon by Synchrony

Would appreciate any thoughts you guys have!

Ok.... I'm curious about Citi shop your way cc.... I don't know that I've ever heard of this but it sounds like what I need

Sorry for the long post figured this applies to most of us
Annual Fee increase to 175$ for AUs
https://thepointsguy.com/news/chase-sapphire-reserve-refresh-2025/
What's staying the same

  • Flexible $300 annual travel credit on each cardmember anniversary. (Note that this is the only credit that will apply on a cardmember anniversary schedule.)
  • Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or Nexus credit.
  • Lounge access, including Priority Pass. (Authorized users are also still allowed two guests at no additional charge.)
  • Travel protections.
  • New statement credits
The updated Chase Sapphire Reserve adds a long list of new statement credits to help offset its higher annual fee.

  • $500 annual statement credit for The Edit, Chase's curated collection of luxury hotels and resorts (split into two $250 biannual credits)
  • $300 annual statement credit for StubHub or Viagogo purchases of concert and event tickets (split into two $150 biannual credits; activation required)
  • $300 annually in monthly DoorDash promotions (a $5 restaurant promo and two $10 promos on everyday essentials each month; activate by Dec. 31, 2027)
  • $300 annual dining credit and primetime reservations at Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables, which you can book on OpenTable (split into two $150 biannual credits automatically applied within the Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables program)
  • $250 annual statement credit for Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscriptions (one-time activation per service is required through chase.com or the Chase Mobile app)
  • $120 in annual statement credits toward Peloton memberships ($10 per month through Dec. 31, 2027)
  • $120 of a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership (activate by Dec. 31, 2027)
  • $120 in annual Lyft in-app credits, up to $10 monthly through Sept. 30, 2027
  • Complimentary IHG Platinum Elite status
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders will receive complimentary IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status.
  • Spend-incentivized perks
Some perks on the refreshed Chase Sapphire Reserve kick in after spending $75,000 on the card in a calendar year. These include:

  • IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite status
  • Southwest Airlines A-List status
  • $500 Southwest Airlines credit when booked through Chase Travel
  • $250 credit to The Shops at Chase, online shopping for cardmembers that includes retailers such as Dyson, Sony, Therabody and Tumi
  • Points Boost offers for redemptions
  • The Chase Sapphire Reserve will roll out a new points accelerator called Points Boost.
  • Points Boost offers will provide eligible cardmembers with redemption values of up to 2 points per dollar when booking with Chase points through the Chase Travel portal. This will apply to select hotels, including bookings made through The Edit, and airlines.
  • Existing cardmembers will receive access to Points Boost on June 23, even as they use their older card.
  • However, the implementation of Points Boost means another change will be coming. New applicants who apply on (or after) June 23 will no longer have access to the current 50% bonus on Chase Ultimate Rewards points when redeemed through the Chase Travel portal. This means the base redemption rate will be 1 cent per point toward travel purchases, though select Points Boost redemptions could net you up to 2 cents per point in value.
  • However, cardholders who opened their accounts prior to June 23 will have a grace period before this benefit is gone. Specifically, for any points earned prior to Oct. 26, 2025, you can still use those for either 1.5 cents apiece or up to 2 cents apiece via Points Boost for two years — through Oct. 26, 2027. In fact, you'll automatically receive the best offer between these two methods during that time period.
  • Unfortunately, any points earned after Oct. 26, 2025 — and all redemptions after Oct. 26, 2027 — will only be eligible for Points Boost. Otherwise, it'll be a fixed 1 cent per point.

also I used gemini to find this 3x is dead in a week. Guess im getting an amex green now?
On June 23, 2025, the Chase Sapphire Reserve's earning rates will change as follows: 8X points on all Chase TravelSM purchases, replacing 5X points on flights and 10X points on hotels and car rentals booked through Chase Travel. 4X points on flights and hotels booked directly, replacing 3X points on all other travel

Ok.... I'm curious about Citi shop your way cc.... I don't know that I've ever heard of this but it sounds like what I need
me too I only use rakuten and American airlines (i find it very hard to get those miles). Was curious on this vs a more transferable currency.

At first glance, the CSR changes might not necessitate any immediate action. The details will be important as to how exactly the credits can be used, but my first thought is I might be able to make this work - at least through 2027. Will be interesting to see if the Apple Music credit can be used for the family plan.

Pleased to see the $300 travel credit remaining - would have been a non-starter if that had gone.

Does feel like this will become more of a sock drawer card though. Loss of 3x on all travel a bit of a blow.

For current cardmembers - the changes don't take effect until October 25, 2025. So you should be good to pay your cruise at 3x until then.

I'll wait for someone else before I click on them, not that I follow them. It won't take long for someone else to have it. AW also had all the dates so you wouldn't have needed to ask AI your question.
good point im just impatient 😂 , I think they have agreements with chase and get the scoop earlier even if its marginal good looking out.

Does anyone know what the SUB / MSR will be for the new CSR biz card? Will the 1 Sapphire rule be in place or will we be able to hold 1 personal and 1 biz card?

New AF for the CSR is okay for me. I'll be able to use the $500 hotel & $300 travel credits, Peleton credit, Apple TV credit, most likely the restaurant credit, DashPass and at least of the Lyft credit (plus Lyft always sends me 20 or 30% off coupons). Bummed about losing the 1.5 points on travel bookings through the portal, but I'll make sure that I use URs mostly to transfer to Hyatt and airline partners and use them less for hotel bookings.

The Citi Shop Your Way card on its own isn't anything special. However, they frequently mail and email you offers where when you spend a certain amount in categories, you can earn different amounts of cash back. For example, here's some of the offers:

1750169759699.png

1750169776433.png
1750169790896.png

And sometimes you can double stack the offer. For example, if you order your groceries online for mobile pickup, your purchase may qualify toward the online and grocery store spend. So not only do you get 5-10% back in statement credits (depending on the offer and YMMV), but you are also earning ShopYourWay points. Now the points are not the main attraction, but they can be redeemed at a rate of 1 cent per point for gift cards on the ShopYourWay website, but there's tons of gift cards available and there are sometimes promotional offers. For example, you might get a 5% off in points redemption for a Visa Virtual Gift Card for a limited time.

The card isn't heavily promoted as it was offered primarily through their partnership with Sears, but the card is still open for signups. Let me know if you have other questions.
