I was just thinking that since there is only one actual toilet that you would not have access since you might wake him up. <g>
I was thinking the same thing about the bathroom with the toilet being the one to fit, and not being able to use the facilities.

On the dog seizure, horrible topic, one of my babies siblings had 4 last night. He is now the 3rd in their litter of 9 to have seizures.

Getting ready to cancel my Citi AA card since I don't anticipate any flights this year (the only thing I really used it for was the free checked bag).

The AF hasn't posted yet but this is the end of the 2nd year I have had the card (obtained in July 2019). Do I need to wait for the AF to post, or am I ok to cancel any time? I just kept it this long IN CASE we happened to fly/use the free checked bag again before the fee posted.
I'm in the exact same position as you and just canceled mine yesterday via chat.

I’m assuming we won’t be able to swim and the splash pad looks amazing but I don’t even care lol. I LOVE the two bathrooms in the studio. Our plan is to put DS’s pack n play in one of the bathrooms so he gets a nice dark room

Lol I know people use the bathrooms for the "crib bedroom" but I love the rain shower head in one of them so I'm not sure I would give that one up to my son. My favorite parts of staying at the Poly is just being able to walk to the GF for their restaurants or roll into Ohana or Kona Cafe right from my room. Walk to the TTC to get to either MK or Epcot. It's just so convenient!

CSP finally approved!!! Yesterday called status line and finally talked to someone. That person said it can take up to 30 days nothing else he can do. HUCA. This time tried number on back of CSR card. That person said the same thing. Tried asking if it was verification but she didn’t budge. Woke up this morning and email in the inbox with an approval. Not sure if calling helped nudge it or not. Was able to generate support links and pass them along.

I think it's decent. The push is on with most hotel chains to reduce value for point redemptions, so if you can get .01 or better on Marriott points you are doing okay.

I just used 320k Marriott points 3 weeks ago to book a room in Hawaii for my son for his honeymoon. They got the hotel they wanted and the room they wanted. They had already picked it before I got involved and offered to use points.

Its The Westin Maui with a premium high floor ocean front room in Ka'anapali. I can't remember the exact cash value at the time, but a resort view is now showing at $5277 with taxes and all fees. The room they will have is no longer available on points or cash and I believe the cash price has jumped up on the lesser rooms. I'm going to dump my suite night awards onto it as well, but I'm not sure if they will help. I have 10 (for 21 and 22) so not a big deal and this is the time to make things special. We booked 3 weeks ago and the first room choice was 280k and while talking about it, the choice disappeared, so we went from oceanfront to premium oceanfront at 320K.

I think we are in a 'if you snooze you lose' situation right now. Of the programs I belong to (IHG, Hyatt, Marriott, Radisson) the only one not jumping up their higher value redemptions is Hyatt and I think that hold is ending soon. I belong to a few other programs also but don't have significant points (or CC's) in any others.

And, I still can't get them motivated to get a few cards! They are saving for the house and are great candidates for a few UR's right now, or MR's or whatever.
We are in Maui right now - I walked by the Westin yesterday, and the property and beach there look really nice! I’m sure they will have an amazing trip!

Hawaii review, part 2 -
We moved from Wailea Beach Villas to Hyatt Residence Club in Ka’anapali yesterday, so this is our second night here.

Pros - the view is INSANE. Like picture postcard palm trees waves crashing blue ocean insane. Way better than our view in Wailea, where the ocean was off in the distance a bit. The pool here is also fantastic - lots of nooks and crannies, and shallow ledges to put lounge chairs on. There’s a good pool bar with good drinks. Food too, but we haven’t gotten anything from there.

My kids said the fitness center is really nice and better than the one at Wailea Beach Villas, which I thought was great.

They’ve also got an outdoor basketball hoop and pickleball court, and that use that space for yoga in the mornings. For those into resort-y activities, way more of those than at Wailea Beach Villas (where there really weren’t any).

Our room is REALLY nice. Not Wailea Beach Villas nice, but if that’s a 10, this is a 9. The living/dining/kitchen areas are smaller than WBV, but plenty of space for us. The two bedrooms each have a king bed, which I found to be a weird configuration. The “guest” room also has a pull out twin sleeper chair which my 15-year-old son said was comfortable. Oh! And the master has an ocean view, which was not the case at WBV. The balconies are big, with lots of comfy seats, but not much privacy, as you can see lots of other balconies from yours.

Cons - people, people, PEOPLE. This area is general seems so much more crowded than Wailea. And while the pools were small at WBV, we never saw even 1/3 of the pool loungers filled. Here, every lounger is filled, with lots of “chair hogs” holding spaces they aren’t actively using.

The ocean is beautiful here, but the beach is LAME. Again, we are from NC and are used to big wide beaches. Here, if there’s 10 feet of sand before the water, I’d be surprised, and it’s at a super steep angle. Same is true of the Hyatt and the Marriott, which are on either side of us. Farther north, where the properties look a bit more dated, the beach is MUCH wider. Since there’s so little sand, they have beach loungers set up on grass behind the sand. You have to reserve them and pay for them - no free beach chair and umbrellas like at WBV. I believe the sign said $100 for the uncovered ones and $125 for the covered ones (I assume that’s per day).

Not many food options (one step up from a “grab and go,” but not quite to a Disney QS level). BUT, the Hyatt right next door has several options, including a pool bar restaurant (Umalu), that’s waaaaay better than you’d expect for a pool bar, AND which had no wait for dinner 🙌🙌). Lots of food options close-ish, but juuuust far enough that you may prefer to drive.

Location - the drive to many excursions is a lot farther from Ka’anapali than Wailea. I’d say it’s a good 30 minutes farther to things like the airport, Haleakala Crater, Pa’ia, etc.

I really can’t decide what I prefer between here and WBV. They both have their pros and cons, and I guess I’m glad we did this “split stay” so we could experience both. And THANK YOU to @WardFam for convincing me to go with Hyatt Residence Club over the regular Hyatt - that was DEFINITELY the right call for our family!

Oh! And data point - I booked this through Chase travel portal using URs, but I was able to add my Hyatt number to the reservation at the front desk. Here’s hoping I get points for the stay, because we’ve had LOTS of room charges!

Hawaii/Ka’anapali update from this morning’s run....

7am is clearly the key time for the chair hogs to hop into action. I’d say 80% of the pool and beach chairs at Hyatt and Marriott were “taken” with towels and assorted belongings by then. Things were a bit better at the Hyatt Residence Club - I just looked out now, at 7:40am, and only maybe 25% of chairs are taken, if that (disclaimer - I can see all of HRC’s pool area, but only parts of Hyatt’s and Marriott’s, so maybe things are better there in areas I can’t see).

I mentioned that the beach is incredibly narrow in front of Hyatt, HRC and Marriott. Heading north from here, the first resort with a decently-wide beach is Ka’anapali Alii, which continues up to the Sheraton (it was hard to see the beach in front of the Sheraton from the running path). If you want a big chain resort with a nice, wide beach up here, Westin is the call, IMO (based SOLELY on the beach). I will say that, at several areas where the beaches were wider, the surf was MUCH rougher, with big (maybe 5-6’?) waves crashing right at the shoreline. May be a bit rough for those with little ones.

Today is our last day in Maui...tomorrow we head to Oahu and Hilton Hawaiian Village!

I wouldn’t give the whole bathroom up 😆 It would just be for his nap and possibly overnight so we don’t wake him. He’s a light sleeper but we would move the pack n play when he’s not sleeping. We may just try it out in the main room and see how it goes first

I am interested in if there are any changes since we were there in March. The pool bar wasn’t even open :( Or the Hilton lounge. Breakfast was a $20 Starbucks credit (although I think the new credit structure is in place now.)

And I have a 4 year old who still naps 3 hours a day haha. I’m afraid she’s gonna loose it at summer camp where they don’t nap.

Every kid is different

You are so lucky! Nobody napped for me and my grands are the same.
And, on top of that, they will stay awake all evening, as late as 10, and then in the morning when I quietly try to get some coffee around 5-6, they follow me to the kitchen. Maybe they smell the coffee. Every kid is different.

Oh man - I LOVE a pool bar, so definitely hoping that’s open! We don’t have any status, so at least the lounge and breakfast thing can’t negatively impact me.

DH's CSP just appeared on his login! Applied 6/27, sent in income verification 6/28, that took a long time. Will try a MDD, could totally use the extra 60K URs.

As a relatively new Virginia resident, I was excited to see a Total Wine & More offer on my Amex - spend $100, get $20 back. They carry my new favorite summer beer, Nordic Jam. Then I looked closer and it says spend $100 on WINE. Trying to decide if AmEx will be able to tell what I am buying, I know they can see GC some places. I don't remember what the receipts from that store look like.

You are having a nice and long trip!

The Westin got a renovation starting in 2019, and the reviews since Hawaii reopened are pretty good. Prior to the reno, the reviews were not so good as it is indeed an older property. At first I was a bit hesitant about the property because I was reading some not so great details. Now, I think it will be just fine.

Son doesn't travel much, but when he traveled with Mom, Mom was an SPG customer and stayed at Westin - a lot, (other than Disney) so that's what his pick was. Fiance wanted ocean front, and wanted Hawaii. At first they talked about Ireland, but really not enough time to do all the stuff. Hawaii seems much easier to plan. They are not hard to please and so long as it's clean and has that amazing ocean view, all should be fine.

They are there for such a short week, it almost doesn't seem worth it for such a long flight - to me. But, it's their honeymoon and the stories will long outlast the trip. Plus, long trips for short stays run in my family - brother flew to Paris with my sister in law for their 50th anniversary in 2017, just for the weekend. First class made it easier. Son and my daughter flew to Germany for an October Fest weekend a couple of years ago - although I think that was actually 3 days. They leave early on Monday morning and return on Saturday night. Then work on Monday.

Looking for a recommendation for a one night pre-cruise hotel for Miami. I’m betting someone here can help me out with suggestions on what I can get with my hotel points. I have Marriott, ihg, and Hilton.
I'm local, so I've never stayed in these hotes, but the Intercontinental (IHG) is very nice and very close to the port. You can walk over to Bayside from there which has restaurants and shops. A little further on Brickell Ave. is a JW Marriott and an Aloft (called Brickell but off Brickell). Both of these are very near the shopping/dining/entertainment centers - Brickell City Center and Mary Brickell Village plus there are many places to eat around there. Its a high rise area, upscale although some pockets have more lively street life than others. The Conrad (HIlton) is on Brickell as well, a beautiful building. Brickell is funny. It's the financial headquarters on the water for dozens of companies and banks from all over the world. It also has thousands of condos with both types of uses in expensive high rises. I find that the residential buildings are a little too far from the street to create a good pedestrian environment - although it has improved significantly and culturally people seem to be willing to walk more. Sorry, my city planning nerd has come out.

The JW, Intercontinental, and Conrad may have water views.

I would think you will be fine. I can't think of any Amex offer restrictions like this that were enforced.
