Someone please remind me...Amex rules for buying gc? I'm still doing MSR on a hilton, can I buy gc at the grocery store to hit it,or is that a thing of the past? like a m/c gc? and add other things to order?

You should always be cautious with MSR on Amex using GCs, but that being said I've done $1000 at Kroger in GCs on my Hilton Surpass and it's showing up on Amex's counter as going going towards MSR and my free weekend night. I think grocery stores are generally ok since they don't report level 3 data. You should definitely avoid all office supply stores.

How long does it take Barclay AA biz to post payment.? I made a payment on the 15th and it shows up on my account, but they haven't updated the balance. Is this normal? The only gave me a 1k limit how am I supposed to use the card if I have no available credit. I just want to pay my electric bill and be done with my MSR. I cannot wait to stick this card in the back of some drawer that I never open.

thanks! I may give it a try next week to finish this off(I need groceries anyway)

I'm considering getting a cc in Ds' name.... he currently has two(about a year old) BBE and BoA rewards- (I want the rewards here lol so it would be my MSR) CK score of about 790-800 (have to recheck that) works p/t,so income not too high but runs his own business- Iwas going to app for CiP for him but weighing the FU with the 3% back now too- I saw a good offer for him and I think he'd actually use this cc himself with the bonus plus the 3% on everything which should 'he' go for first? wwyd?

Well I went ahead and put a 24 hour hold on the cruise! Dh and I will talk when he gets home from work about how we want to pay for it. We currently have around $450 in gcs. I'm not sure if we should go to Target to get more or just pay the rest with our CSR.
Target comes out to 5% savings. CSR redeemed towards cash is 3% savings or 4.5% savings when redeemed towards travel. I am not sure how much of the cruise needs to be on the CSR for insurance or anything.

welcome back southfayyettefan.

i was able to close my first citi aa card via chat.

i do have a question about plastiq. i have been using them for a while. So, this is a first for me. my mortgage payment was supposed to be delivered 5 days ago and the mortgage company had not recieved it yet. has anyone had this happen to them? will plastiq cancel my payment and refund my cc? i will contact both again today and go from there. i have never been late before. just very worried.
Just playing catch up, but what does Plastiq show as the status of the payment? We had a similar issue with our first test payment to our mortgage company thru Plastiq. Plastiq showed the check had been cashed/deposited, but nothing showed on our mortgage website. Turned out to be that the Plastiq check had been stamped by BoA with an incorrect account number, and the mortgage company deposited it into the wrong account. I contacted Plastiq via chat and they sent us the photos of the front and back of the check as proof that the check had been deposited. We were able to get it credited to our mortgage account. Hope this helps.

Reminder for US Bank Altitude Reserve peeps (are there any out there here?): Remember AR Real Time Rewards redemption has minimums on travel charges that you can redeem points for among it's other redemption gotchas- uh, I mean "rules". I completely forgot about this as I started mapping out what to do with my retention bonus and I was going to make a <$150 payment on my Disney hotel stay and redeem via RTR as soon as the points came through. Nope! Minimum charge for Disney (categorizes as "lodging") is $500 for RTR redemptions. Very happy I stumbled back on that prior to making the charge. (For anyone wondering what I settled on I'm going misc airline expenses. Since the airline minimum redemption via RTR is $10, the baggage fee for an upcoming trip I have can be redeemed with these points at 1.5x, seat upgrades ought to work too and I usual charge a couple of those a year- neither of those are things I'd figured out how to use points to cover so yay!)
I am looking to buy DW park tickets using Altitude reserve real time rewards, any thoughts? Would Disney direct purchase trigger RTR? What about Undercover tourist or another OTA?

I need help with the best method for DH and DSs to do Steamboat Springs for spring break. Count me out...I don't do cold. I am annoyed b/c this is messing up my stash for Hawaii next year, but Hawaii was for DH and if he wants to postpone it to hang out in the snow, so be it. DD3 and I will go to Disney instead. :rolleyes1

I booked a Hampton on points, so hotel is taken care of. Unfortunately the Sheraton that is ski-in/out is booked full for the dates.
I will book SW flights probably....just waiting for them to open late next month.

I need help covering the cost of lift tickets/equiptment. There is a buy an adult, get a kid free deal...so total is about $1500. The Steamboat website has a banner that says pay with MRs, but when I click it, nothing happens. He isn't getting the URs...those are mine for disney.:rotfl2:

What should I open to help mitigate the cost of lift tickets? He is 2/24 with one falling off next month. He is already drinking from the CIPpy cup. I need another idea...like the arrival+ that is no longer an option.

We skied at Steamboat for a number of years, but haven't for the last two seasons because DD aged out of the free ticket, and the local ski pass jumped in price astronomically. We used to get a pass for $1000 for all 3 of us, now that pass for 3 would cost $2900. :crazy2: Steamboat is my favorite (relatively easy to get to) ski area. Just a quick question - are they beginners? Will they be taking lessons? The advantage that the lessons provide (in addition to instruction) are jumping the lift lines so that they are not waiting in line 45 minutes just to ride the lift FWIW.

I'm not surprised that Sheraton is sold out. It has the best location for skiing Steamboat.

The Ikon base ski pass allows 5 days at Steamboat, so depending on how long they're staying at Steamboat, it might be just right for spring break. $749 for adult ticket, $559 young adult 13-22, $359 child 5-12. https://www.ikonpass.com/en/shop-passes/ikon-base-pass-2019-2020 That's a little bit less than the $1500 you're looking at.

We don't rent since we have our own equipment, but Christy Sports at the base of the mountain would be the most convenient. Plus IIRC they can store your skis overnight (for a fee) so that you don't have to lug them back and forth from the hotel (skis/snowboards are heavy and awkward especially when you're walking in ski boots). It takes a long time to get fitted for boots and skis, so if I were renting I would look at getting them the afternoon before I plan to ski so that the morning isn't eaten up waiting to get equipment (I would expect that alone to take 2 hours for 2 people during spring break). Another idea would be to rent equipment on the way to Steamboat (Golden, Idaho Springs) where it might be less expensive, but they would need a car big enough to hold the skis.

Know that it is a 4+ hour drive from Denver to Steamboat, and probably longer in the winter - March is our snowiest month* - and (I assume your DH would be driving to the ski area?) can be treacherous. I-70 has AWFUL traffic during ski season, especially on weekends, and I've driven on Highway 9 going 10 mph and wanting to cry since I couldn't see the road in front of me due to a snowstorm. I've had it take 8 hours in the summer coming back from Steamboat (heavy traffic), so my advice would be to plan for long transit times, and have emergency supplies in the vehicle. :( And sometimes, the drive has been perfectly fine. Hopefully it is not a horrible drive for them, but it has the potential to be.

I may sound like Debbie Downer, but I've lived here long enough to have experienced the pitfalls of Colorado ski resort vacations. Don't get me wrong, they can be a lot of fun, but they take a lot of prep. Hawaii is much easier.

As for CCs, since he's already getting CIPs, & without being targeted for higher offers, the non-Chase cards with $500+ SUBs that I'd suggest are BoA Premium Rewards and Cap1 Venture. Of those, I'd go with the BoAPR due to ease of redemption and airline agnostic travel credits. Get a BoA bank bonus too (and first so that you have a "relationship" with BoA).

*As a side note: Steamboat got 2 feet of snow on June 21 this year, the first day of summer. That was unusual.

Targeted Schwab Plat Offer:
A user on r/churning received a targeted email from Schwab today offering 100k MR to open the Schwab Platinum card with a $5k MSR. They then found a link to the offer that seems to be publicly available. This is for people who are already a Schwab Client.

You can Access the offer here:
I logged into my wife's Schwab account and saw this message: We're Sorry. The promotion is either no longer available or you are not eligible for this offer.

So YMMV but if you're a current Schwab customer and eligible for this offer, it's a pretty sweet deal!

Just booked our Hilton Tokyo Bay stay for three nights! 207k Hilton points for a king ocean view room. So now I only have one hotel left to book for Japan.

I still need to book the two nights at the Conrad Osaka which I'm planning to use Hilton free weekend nights for since we'll be staying Saturday and Sunday night. I was kind of worried about this since there has to be award availability to use the free nights, but I looked through a bunch of weekend dates for the Conrad Osaka and there didn't seem to be a problem finding award availability. If for some reason that doesn't work, there's also a Hilton Osaka I can book.

So now we're down to a mere 12k Hilton points haha. Good thing I'm working on the Hilton Surpass MSR!

I just got the targeted email for 100K Schwab Plat!!!!! I've never seen that before!!

I opened a Schwab account 4 years ago for the debit card to use overseas. In March this year we transferred the bulk of our moola to them. Maybe that's why?? But I don't see one in DH's email and we're joint owners.

Better apply for it now before I close my Biz Plat next week!

ETA: Approved!

I’m very interested to see what happens to crowds in the weeks after SWGE opens Aug 29. Crowd reports from you guys are reminiscent of what we saw in the months leading up to SWGE opening in DLR. Will the crowds nosedive like in DLR? Get bigger because WDW is more popular? Stay tuned to find out folks!
I’ll report back as we’re heading down on Sept 1 for our Labor Day “low crowds week.” 🤣
