Ugh that is so frustrating! I’ve come to the realization that I just need to pay whatever EWR is charging because the potential nightmare to and from any other “NYC” airport may not be worth it. Sometimes I take a car service instead of paying for long-term parking and the drivers always tell me don’t even bother with LGA.

This is why I was hesitant about a CP when I joined the group last year. If it was 2016 and I was flying cheap wanna get away fares with non-stop times each day, I would have went for one in a heartbeat.

I feel like SW is usually good with customer service (besides this whole big change) so I would definitely try to get whatever you can. It really is crazy that the airport change came after flights were already booked. It would have been so much better if it was a few weeks ago before the schedule was extended SMH. I’ve never flown out of Philly. Would you stay over the night before on points or something and just head to the airport?

I would use the customer service advice and HUCA with SW a few times. The worst you can get is a few wasted minutes.

Exactly. Can't believe they did it now, should have been at a schedule release. We would still have been scrambling to find a flight home, but at least it wouldn't be so late in the game.

If we do philly, we'll just drive the day of the flight and do off site parking. We wouldn't take a super early flight.

I'll have to be packing my patience and huca if necessary to get a resolution that works for us.

Ugh yes! Definitely try with customer service.

Do you have your confirmed return date from work yet if they do let you rebook or honor your request for another airline?

Just a reminder that you can change your Amex Airline choice via chat if you haven't used any of your credit. Just changed mine from AS to UA via chat, very quick. Change reflects online and I got a confirmation email.

Sidenote: I don't appreciate Amex triggering my commitment phobia with this one airline only thing :scared:

We booked at 360 days prior to our flights. I don't know how that compares to BA.
That is the same as JAL--BA is about 5 days later so that's awesome. Well done for your booker! Sounds like it was a good experience? I've always thought about using one of those guys, but never pulled the trigger.

Idk about Enterprise through National and how that works but for UR.... Last year my Dad was able to get credit for a day with National. He couldn't link it prior to the trip to his National account but on exiting the lot with the rental at MCO was able to add his National number to the reservation and received the rental day. The bad part was he did not get a 2nd driver for free because the contract UR books under doesn't allow that and National said they would charge him extra for a 2nd driver so he passed. For just a difference of $5 I would book straight with the rental car company like you have it. If you get 3% back on travel from your cc on the charge that would be $4.44 so you would really only save $2.83.
I booked National via UR previously and did not have a second driver issue. I do require a second driver here because I want it under my acct/CSR, but dh will be driving.

Thanks! I'm leaning toward leaving it a cash booking. I do prefer to book direct when possible. You just gave me the nudge I needed. My head is soo not clear today.

I think the 2nd driver became an issue after UR changed the contract to Expedia from Connexions.

How long does Surpass take to arrive? Approved on 7/19, I see no sign of it in today's Informed Delivery. We have horrible mail delivery so I'm hoping it's just not here yet, not that it's been mis-delivered. I'd be more comfortable if I could at least log in and check the acct. I did finally get a temporary number, but it only works 10% of the time and I want to get this month's (August) bills on Amex.

We bought this house over a year ago and we are still getting mail for the previous owners which should have been forwarded. A few weeks ago I received a piece of mail addressed to their new address in my box. Every week the neighborhood's facebook group has a few postings on "have you seen my package?"

Good idea to read. Emergency medical is $2,500.00 (which seems very low -- what if, worst case scenario, you required surgery?) and trip cancellation is $10,000.00 per trip (not pp like I thought). So I'll have to purchase additional insurance and make sure I get a decent medical limit (just in case).
I don't know if I'm reading this wrong, but it looks like a "trip" is defined per person and "occurrence" is the sum of the individual "trips" in the traveling family group. From the summary of travel benefits for cancellation/interruption https://www.chase.com/card-benefits/sapphirereserve/travel :

Coverage Amount/Period

  • Up to $10,000 per covered trip and a maximum limit of $20,000 per occurrence and a maximum benefit amount per 12-month period of $40,000

    Examples:
    • A family of four charges a covered trip to their Chase card or pays with rewards earned on a Chase card for a covered trip that costs $6,000/person. If the family experiences a loss of $24,000 for the entire trip, the reimbursement would be $20,000, as that is the maximum limit per occurrence.
    • A Cardholder charges a covered trip to their Chase card or pays with rewards earned on a Chase card for a covered trip that costs $8,000. If the Cardholder experiences a loss of $8,000 for the trip, the reimbursement would be $8,000, as that is less than the maximum limit of $10,000 per covered trip.
So at trip cost of $7000 pp, I wouldn't need to purchase additional cancellation/interruption insurance if I use my CSR (and then there are the other benefits like baggage delay, lost luggage, and evacuation insurance).

I now need to look at our health insurance to see what is covered.

Appreciate you helping me clarify my thoughts :goodvibes

Unless I quit (which is a very real possibility thanks to my awful boss), I've given up on getting the extra days (also thanks to my awful boss). Although if I do quit, I'd for sure stay longer and just tell whatever new job I got that it was already planned.

So I may call separately about the two different return flights. Unless they can see them in their system, I won't mention that I speculatively booked 2 different dates. I actually did also book a Newark flight down on fri nov 1, but I just did that a couple days ago, after the announcement. So I have 2 different days on the way down too.

And if I do end up somehow getting a monetary credit, I'll cross that bridge of making a decision of return date at that time. Probably would go with Tuesday if I had to. To be safe.

Friendly reminder that Southwest Airlines next schedule release is expected to occur on Thursday August 15th.
  • This schedule release was pushed back twice in early July (it was originally supposed to occur on July 10th). Currently SW is offering flights through 1/5/20 and this release (when it finally occurs) will take their schedule out to 3/6/20.
  • I would stay posted on this however, as it could change at any time. They have been known to move this date up with very little notice.

Just got 737 Maxxed again on SW. Flight from Grand Cayman cancelled on way home....luckily the Graavy Train had an option to book for miles. Only annoying thing was the flight was booked on a now cancelled Citi Biz card so get to deal with that for the taxes. Seems like just need to wait for the refund to show posted though and it can be transferred to bank account or a check.

I do not use UR's to book if we need two drivers. It's impossible to do that now with a UR booking it seems.

Okay I need some help. I think we've decided we'll be booking at the Dolphin since we can get it for $132.78/night. I'm super confused by the different room categories so if anyone would like to help me that would be great!
DOUBLE INNER $116
DOUBLE GUEST ROOM $132
DOUBLE RESORT VIEW $141
DOUBLE TRADITIONAL $157
DOUBLE WITH TERRACE $157

Should I just book the cheapest one? Whatever inner means lol. I wish they had a King room, but they don't on this website. Also, when I get to the checkout it shows taxes, but no resort fee. I'm wondering if that will be tacked on later or if it doesn't get charged on Ticketsatwork.com?
Just a shout-out to you and some others here over time who've mentioned Tickets at Work. I was able to get my company set up with them despite us being a small business with only a few employees. No idea if we'll find any deals for our travels but it's always nice to have another avenue of discounts.

Idk if anyone is in the same boat with a small business with only a few employees but we just assumed this sort of thing was for large corporations only but it's not- and it's free. (They make their money off the commissions of what they sell.) I sent an email inquiry through their website and they called the next day.

A couple of bank bonus DPs:

1) TD Bank- did this one for myself last year and it worked fine. Was going to use them for DH's business bank account, so set up a personal account for him. Found out that TD Bank won't link to YNAB - :confused3 so that plan is off. Instead of changing a direct deposit, I just funded it with a couple of pushes from Discover. DPs on Doc look like that should work, if not, I'm only out the interest for the 90 days this has to be open. Also, they charge to transfer out of their bank (which I had forgotten) but the account comes with free checks. The check company put my order through 2x, then charged me for the second order. I chatted with them and they reversed the charge, but it seemed kinda scammy to me. Glad we aren't actually going to keep this account.

2) Santander - this has been DH's local bank for a while (got a mailer with a decent bonus - $300ish? a few months ago). Bonus worked fine. After I realized that TD wouldn't work, we decided to open his business bank account here, too, for a $350 bonus. Had to do it in person in the branch, and it took a good hour. Needed his LLC paperwork from the Secretary of State, but it was fine that he didn't have an EIN. The bank guy pointed out that we could keep the account fee free by using the debit card to buy 3 packs of gum a month (3 debit transactions), if we don't want to keep the minimum of $5k in the account. Hopefully this bonus will post as easily as the personal one did.

Mini freak out
I booked CBR with AA points last night
Called Disney wholesale who could only see a shadow reservation through a broker
Called AA who informed me they don’t release the info to Disney until a few Days before check in so I can’t prebook fastpasses or anything
What?! Did I get bad info somewhere or what?

Good points! Honestly I'm not sure. I will call Chase later and ask for clarification. Since I'm an "outlier" by age I don't take any chances with vacations -- I always have trip insurance just in case I have to cancel for medical reasons (I don't have any, but you never know :sad2:!).

I think UCT vs URs via Chase will just come down to if you want to use points or cash (unless you have a travel eraser type card like Cap One with lots of points, I think you got one for Japan?).

I actually just ran all of the numbers on UCT tickets for upgrading. I was just comparing to Seasonal APs, but it would be the same pretty much for any level. I was just looking for whatever was the least OOP. The best savings on OOP costs from UCT is the 5 day 3 Park to Park ticket... about $46. On the other hand, buying from Chase with URs... you'd probably want the most expensive ticket no matter what so your cash OOP on upgrading is the least possible. That would also be the 5 day 3 P2P ticket.

You can upgrade a 3 park ticket to a 2 park AP as long as you haven't used your ticket at Volcano Bay, if you aren't interested in VB. You want to go in to the park with your ticket and then upgrade at guest services.

Either option here would give you a ticket valued at $436. If getting a 3 park Seasonal Pass, those come to $430ish so last year when we did that we got a refund on a Universal gift card for the difference. If you'd want a 2 park Seasonal Pass, you could get either the 2 days + 1 day free from UCT or a 3 day 2 Park to Park ticket from URs, both are the same cost as a 2 park seasonal pass, so no worrying about paying a difference or refunds.

I'm not familiar with the higher tier AP pricing, so it would just be the difference from the ticket you buy to the AP price. Don't forget tax when you figure it out! :)

A thought too, you could do one higher level for the discounts and one lower level, depending on what you think will work for you dates for when you'd go. DH and I have talked about that if we would move to FL, maybe doing a Seasonal or Power Pass for one person and the Preferred for the other for the discounts and free parking. I believe if you do say, the seasonal AP and then decide you want to go during a blackout you can upgrade in person, you just pay the full difference between the pass types - no pro rating, expiration will not change. I did find out that when you get to renewal time, you can switch between tiers and also if you want a 2 park or 3 park pass.

ETA: We are going to do Seasonal Passes again... I think I am just going to let ours expire and then get tickets and upgrade again, so I can buy the tickets with URs instead of paying OOP or cashing out URs at 1cpp for the renewal price.
Thank you! That’s super helpful. I’m not sure if we’re going to get APs to universal or not. I’m leaning towards no right now only because we don’t have any immediate plans to go.

Question for ones who have been to or live in Boston. Looking to go for a quick weekend. Wanting to go to the Aquarium and of course Faneuill Hall. I believe they are somewhat near each other. Hoping to use my IHG points so looking for a Crowne Plaza or even a Holiday Inn Express that would be closest to these places.

When we were there for our layover I only remember seeing a Marriott nearby.
Look into Hotel Indigo near the Garden. Not too far to walk to Faneuil Hall. And yes the Aquarium is close to Faneuil Hall as well. That whole area is super walkable or a quick Uber ride
So it would be better to get them from UCT? Or would it be better to use URs to get them through chase? I’m not sure what the best option is since we’ve never done universal APs and I don’t exactly know how it works upgrading normal tickets
See @amalone1013 but we did the 5 day 3 park tix using our CSR with URs. Upgrade for $30 each and charge the upgrade to our room and used arrival plus points to wipe out. We also did this in February and they extended the AP for 15 months so it was quite a deal.

I noticed on the screen in the lounge that flights going to Houston and Dallas both had delays last night so guessing there was weather issues there too. I think we had to fly around some weather coming up from Texas cause it took longer than our normal almost 4 hours to get to Denver.
In your situation, your flights are typically pretty short, right? Like 2’ish hours? I wouldn’t hesitate to fly spirit for those shorter flights.
Yes, most are 60-90 minutes. Rarely do we fly longer than that.
