I've been reading post regarding Hilton Head, where to eat or where not to eat. I can help, I've lived on the Island for 16 years.

Let me know.

Thanks for posting. I don't need your help right now, but might in the future. I like finding out where the 'locals' like to eat, so your help will be greatly appreciated. :D

Love the screen name! We always take Pelican pics when we are at HH. Any new restaurants you've been to lately? We'll be there in April for a week.:earsgirl:

Hi Cheryl. I was wondering more about weather than restaurants. We will be there in October this year . We were there last August and spent most of the time swimming in the ocean. Will the water still be warm enough then? I'd really like to know . Thanks in advance.

October is beautiful on the Island. Swimming should still be okay in the Ocean. Of course it won't be as warm as August. In August, as you know, is like bath water.

As far as new resturants, Marley's is fairly new. We like it. Sometimes it gets loud, but it's a fun atmosphere.

Have a great time on Hilton Head.

Don't forget to visit South Beach, they have lots of activities for children by the salty dog and during this summer they are starting Hermit Crab races by the shops. If you go on the Gypsy, dolphin trip, they send all the children over to a shop to get a FREE shark tooth. It's small, but the children love it because it came from a real shark.

I'm just curious about the weather. We were there 2/21-2/27, and from 2/24 on, it was COLD, miserable, windy, rainy. Please tell me if this is very far from normal late February weather. We went last year only 2 weeks later (early March) and it was so much colder this year. Should we give late February another shot next year? We only want it to be warm enough to ride bikes (our favorite pastime on HH), we're not swimmers. 60 degrees would have been nice. Was last week unseasonably cold or close to normal?
Just wanted to add that I'm so jealous that you get to live on HH. Except for the summer crowds, I envy you-it's so beautiful there.

Simba Mom - I went the end of Nov (got a great rate on one of the Marriott) and the weather was wonderful - not even close to cold - at then of the week it was warm enough to wade in the ocean....

I was told then that HH was not surpose to be anywhere near that warm - they were having a big heat wave.

How is the weather? We are arriving on March 27th.

Any good kid friendly restaurants that we shouldn't miss?

Thanks!

We are coming down to HH in 10 days. 2 couples in our forties , not bringing kids. we want to do some seafood one night ,nothing fancy just fun and casual also any other casual places.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Last week was unusually cold on HH. A bit of a fluke. Today, it was in the 80's. I think you should try Feb again for bike riding.

A neat seafood spot is Crab shack off of Pope avenue. They have paper towel at the table. Very laid back place, you order at the counter... The seafood is very fresh. Grilled, broiled, fried plus lots of choices for the land people.

All week it's going to be in the high high 70's. Yahoo.

Our spring break people have started to arrive. YIKES

Thanks so much, pelicanpouch. And I think we'll be trying the Crab shack. How about the Sea shack, near Hofsbrau, or Captain's Seafood?

Sorry I met Sea Shack. The crab shack is is Savannah, oops.

We used to eat at captain seafood when it was on Mathews dr. I haven't been to it since then.

I'm glad to see your post, Cheryl. I never gave much thought to Hilton Head, but that all changed this past week when I was at a conference in Savannah. I fell in love with the entire area. FWIW, we were at the Hyatt Regency, right on the river, and as nice as it was, it was not DVC.

How far is Hilton Head from Savannah? And, what is there to see and do in the area? I'm trying to figure out how much time to allow for a stay at HH.

Thanks!

Pat

Two different friends have recommended a place called Hudson's on HHI. Anyone else been there recently? Thanks.

We go to Hudson's almost every trip to HHI. Not the fanciest place, but we have always been happy with the food. Clam chowder is some of the best we've ever had! But it's the hushpuppies that you'll keep coming back for. Mmmmmmm....

Cheryl... Thanks for the offer of information. My parents are driving to WDW and meeting us (we are flying) in May and have decided to stop in HH at the DVC there for 2 nights on the way. They usually stop in Savannah and the love it there. What my mom asked me to try and find out for her was information about the shopping. She loves to shop, especially at older, quant type of stores. How is the shopping around there?
