but I really miss the "old" Disney before they updated it and put all the thrill rides in. I know they were trying really hard to answer the majority demographic and competing with Universal but our latest trip last month proved a bit of a disappointment to me. I hadn't been there in 15 years and was really hoping to capture the great feelings I had back in my late teens/early 20's

I loved the old rides at Epcot - the ones that made you think and showed you the creativity of the imagineers - however, now they are fast and thrill-seeking. Unfortunately, I can't stomach that kind of amusement. I have poor health and I lose my balance too quickly. Yes, Disneyworld is still an amazing place to visit but I really felt like I was sitting on the bench for the most time since I can't go on most of these newer attractions. It was a waste for me. If you are disabled or have poor health concerns or are prone to dizziness or nauseau you can't go on 50% of the rides. I did get brave and go on a few and sure enough, I got sick.

I know I am the minority on this issue...everyone loves Disney the way it is - updated and fast - but I miss the kinder/gentler rides. There weren't as many accidents and deaths before as well. Not saying that is Disney's fault but one can't help noticing it.

When I went years ago, I planned trips 3 years in a row consequetively - that's how excited I was to go back. With this past trip, I am content on not going back so soon...

I guess I'm alone but I'd rather have pre-1995 Disney back.
:o(

I love thrill rides, and yet I tend to agree with you, I much prefer some of the older "slow" rides to the new thrill rides. I DO think there is a place for both, but not when you start replacing all of the classics with new rides.

I'll never forgive them for taking out Horizons to put in Mission:Sick...oops, Space.

Also, I do think that Disney is trying to keep adding new non-thrilling rides and attractions also, like Soarin', Philharmagic, Winnie the Pooh.

I think it was necessary for Disney to add new things that are more thrilling since people are expecting those things now, no matter what park you go to (Cypress Gardens is another example).

i like the old and the new. i'm not into thrill rides either, but i do enjoy watching people enjoy themselves.

If they did not update anything then people would complain the rides and attractions are old, tired and out dated. :confused3

I am also a non-roller coaster/thrill ride person, and don't mind when they add these into the parks, just wish they would stop taking away attractions and just add the new ones! They have the land to keep building, so why not leave the parks as a POP Century type of place....add the new and the new thrilling rides into additional space....ex. MK 1970's, MK 1980's, MK 1990's, MK 2000's, etc.! That would give us old timers chance to remember and enjoy, and then try the new!!!

While I love the thrill rides, I'm with another poster who just wished they wouldn't remove more sedate rides to put them in. A thrill ride or two is great, but frankly they are not really all that "Disney" and I would not miss them if they were not there at all.

What would be cool is if DisneyWorld would bring back some of these old rides :thumbsup2 I know that Disney is all about making changes and taking some old rides down. But maybe after some of the old rides are taken down for a while, they could bring them back up to make changes he he >

I went on Mission space 3 times this past week for the first time, I think it is an amazing ride. At no point did I or my GF feel sick at all, I look ahead the whole time and thought it was a wonderful ride....

You and I think alike! :teeth:

Personally, I think that you could go on more than 50% of the rides, but maybe thats just me. There's also alot of shows to watch..I don't think Disney has too many thrill rides. I don't like thrill rides myself, and I don't spend most of my time sitting on a bench waiting for others to ride them. ???

I do really miss the old rides they had in Epcot.

We wish that Disney would stop taking out all of the old classic rides/attractions that Walt designed. I understand that they want to put in new stuff to keep up with the other area amusement parks. There is enough room that they can add in some new attractions with out taking out the good old favorites. I am affraid of what Pirates will be like when it reopens. They ruined Journey in to the Immagination at EPCOT let's hope Pirates is not ruined too.

I miss the old Disney World from before it became so overcrowded. You could drive up from US 192 all the way to the Magic Kingdom and not pass anything but beautiful trees and "wilderness".

Downtown Disney was just a small shopping area. You could park right near the old Empress Lilly and walk thru the tree lined parking lot to get there.

I won't give anything away, but I have now watched several ridethroughs of the new PotC and in my opinion, they did not ruin it. I'm a huge fan of the original and while the new one is "embellished", I believe they stayed very true to the original ride.

All I know is that when I went to Epcot years ago, we kept talking about how cool the sit and see rides were...The newer thrill rides that they put in their place are for those that are healthy enough to ride them. I am not one of those people...I do have preexisting conditions that prevent me from enjoying thrill rides like that.

I loved the ride that allowed you to choose to travel by either land, sea or air...does anyone remember that ride? It was interactive

The motion ride was neat as it took you on a journey in history of travel methods

Even Spaceship Earth changed! If I remember correctly, it had a lot more to see on the descent portion of the ride than it does now...you can see the fiberoptic wires and the narration is always muffled and not very loud

What was the ride that had the SCUBA lessons being given by the teacher underwater while the kids sat in the living room?

These all bring back great memories and I miss them.

Loved that too- I think those are both the same ride, but I don't remember what it was called. I know it was there about 5 years ago when we went, but not 2 years ago...

Latehoneymooner the ride that you are talking about is Horizons. It was a great ride. There was one part were they were in an orange grove and the sent of oranges was blown into that area of the ride. They took out Horizons to put up Mission Space. I liked Horizons much better.

The other ride was The Wolrd of Motion. All about the history of travel/motion from the building of the wheel to modern transportation. They took that down to put up Test Track. I wish they could have left up World of Motion and built Test Track in a different area.

I tink that Future World used to be a lot better before all of the changes. Now they just need to figure out what they are doing with the Wonders of Life Pavillion.
