I like exterior hallways, anyone else?

So many times I have read people claiming exterior hallways are a negative when choosing a resort. I love exterior hallways. I am not a big fan of the hotel feel. I hate the dark, long corridors. I am also not a big fan of elevators. When I am in a tall hotel, I get a closed in claustrophobic feeling.

On the flip side, I love opening my door and being able to be right outside. I love having the beautiful grounds right at my door step. I love walking the winding paths back to my room.

OKW was a great resort for us. I had the exterior door and a balcony; I couldn't ask for more! We haven't stayed at any of the moderates yet, but I think they would be perfect for me. Of course, I wouldn't get a balcony, but I can deal with that.

I know the interior hallways give you shelter from the rain and the heat, but I will put up with those two inconveniences just so I can have my room door open to the great outdoors! Anyone else?

I also prefer exterior hallways. This next trip we are staying at the BC/Poly, so I'll have to deal with the interior corridors.

I'm with you. I love stepping out of our room at the CSR every year and looking at the lovely sunrise or sunset, the landscaping or just people watching.

I love the exterior hallways at the POR. It is a very relaxed feeling strolling the beautiful grounds to get to your room.

I like both, but I do like to step out of the room and make a beeline for the nearest bus stop rather than hiking to the hotel exit first. When we stayed at YC, we were quite a ways from the front door.

The only exterior I ever liked was CSR...To me didn't feel like a motel. I don't like exteriors because you have to walk up the steps.

I like to go into a hotel, have a lobby and take the elevator to my room. I enoy a balcony, no matter how small, and sitting outside it at night.

My favorite balcony is at the Dolphin. You get to watch the boats go by, listen to the music coming from the Boardwalk and if your lucky enough you get a glimpse of Illuminations. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH,..now that is the way to end the day:) :) :)

when i go solo to disney, i prefer the interior halls (like the CR) - just a security thing with me - otherwise, it's the value resorts!

i like the outside ext. also. of course we have not stayed deluxe at disney yet. but i like just walking out down to the food court.

I love the exterior hallways also. it is great to just walk out with the two strollers and back in without having to travel inside a building and down a hallway.

I prefer the exterior doors too. I like stepping out to the brilliant blue Florida skies!

In Canada, especially the winter, I prefer interior!

I prefer the exterior hallways too. I've been going back and forth about staying at WL or POR in April. The big reason I'm sticking with POR is being able to step right out into that Florida sunshine!! I love walking right out my room door and seeing all the beautiful foliage and smelling that lovely Florida smell!! It gives you a reason to go outside and walk around the grounds too. If I have to take an elevator from my room to the food court how likely am I to stroll about outside and "stop to smell the roses"? Probably not very.

I'm torn on the issue. There are aspects to both that I love, and aspects that I hate.

I love exteriors for the open feeling, the ease of leaving in case of emergency(especially on the first floor), and the fact that when someone knocks on my door, I can look out the big window and see who it is much better than a tine peep hole. But exteriors are noisy, and I never have any sense of privacy in one as throngs of people constantly pass by at all hours of the day and night.

I love interiors because they make me feel more like I'm staying in a hotel, as opposed to a motel. Nicely carpeted interiors give a classier, more opulent feel, and since there are no big windows at the front of the room, they give a better sense of privacy and isolation. But interiors also tend to amplify any noise made in the hallway (rude noisy people can be found in any type of hotel), they are harder to escape in the case of emergency, and the rooms tend to have much farther walks from the parking lots or entrances than exteriors.

Overall, I think I prefer the interiors, but for budget reasons, I wind up in exteriors about 90% of the time.

I like the exterior hallways too. To me, it feels like you're in a resort - interior hallways feel like a hotel. Walking around the grounds of the resort in the am - heading for the food court for breakfast - is one of the best parts of the vacation for me! :)

Last year we stayed at the WL and it was ok, just the regular run of the mill inside hotel hallway (sorry)! This year we are staying at CBR and we are looking forward to the beautiful grounds there right outside our door. I hope that the CBR doesn't let us down!!!

Nope. I like pulling right up and walking under a covered walkway to get to the door. I don't like having to walk through the heat or run through the rain. I don't like not having the restaurant and gift shop and stuff all under the same roof.

And I just hate that if I want a window open to see out that it means people can see in. And sometimes it is hard to be sure the window is covered, so I change behind the curtain anyway.

Hmmm......Am I seeing double or did Cool-Beans and bavaria say the exact same thing???? I guess great minds really do think alike. ;)

I don't mind staying at either, but one thing I prefer about an interior hallway is the hallway is climate controlled. I know how hot Florida gets and when you open the door to your room, the heat jumps in faster than a kid in a candy bowl. At least with an interior hallway, if you open your door, the change in temp is not too much. Your room temp pretty much stays the same.

It depends...
I do like a resort witha majestic lobby...

but I feel safer with an exterior exit, especially on the first floor, and especially in Florida - at least at the times of year when I tend to go. It's so nice to be able to step outside your door into the sun.
