I left negative feedback. Was I wrong?

This is the first time ever that I've left negative feedback on Ebay/Half.com. The situation is that I ordered a textbook for my DD from a seller in Alaska. Normally I wouldn't do that but the description clearly said that since school was starting soon, they would ship the book Priority. I checked with our Post Office and they said it would take about 7 working days to get here. This was the first week of Jan

The book never arrived. I've been contacting the seller for three weeks now and getting nowhere. First she said it was shipped Priority and would get me the tracking info. Then she said that her husband either lost it or sent it Media Mail (this can take up to 6 weeks from AK). The last email said that she would issue a refund but since she was busy, I needed to be patient. I finally filed a claim but am still waiting for the refund.

I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but today I left negative feedback. I've never done this before so now I'm nervous that she's going to retaliate. I've got 100% rating as a buyer on Ebay/Half and 100% as a seller on Amazon.

Was I wrong?

Waiting a month for something that was supposedly sent Priority Mail is nuts. Plus the seller can't even tell you if it was mailed or her DH lost it? Then add the "you have to wait for your refund"?

In no way were you wrong to leave negative feedback.

I think leaving Negative feedback was appropriate in this case.

Right now, I am waiting on something I ordered. It has taken a bit too long but the seller came down with the flu before the auction ended. She apologized and mailed it as soon as she was able. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and leave positive feedback. I don't mind waiting for good reason and appreciate the warning of the delay. But waiting as long as you have for a priority package and lots of excuses--yep. Definately negative-feedback-worthy

Remember: the seller can no longer retaliate (i.e., leave you negative feedback).

As a long time Ebay seller I think you did the right thing.

If the book or refund should show up with a proper apology, I believe you can then retract it.

I am a seller on ebay and I go over and beyond because I treat them how I want to be treated. I don't understand her saying she's too busy to refund your money. All it takes is a couple of clicks in paypal. Yep, she deserved a bad feedback. I hope you get the book soon. :thumbsup2

I think you had every right to leave negative feedback.

I used to sell books regularly on Ebay, and when I completely screwed up like this seller did, I would immediately refund the money. I even refunded to a couple of people who I thought were scamming me but wasn't sure because I couldn't find my records of the Delivery Confirmation!

Every seller should be using Delivery Confirmation.

You NEED to leave feedback by the 30 day mark good or bad and by your post you waited a fair amount of time. Has the seller left you feedback? As a seller I always left feedback first and as a buyer left it second. In my opinion if it has been 30 days since the auction close you should do a charge back on your credit card.... please tell me you used a credit card and pay pal. If you receive the item you can either accept it and resubmit payment or refuse it.

If you filed a claim this seller this seller will HAVE TO go through the process with you in order to get the negative feedback removed.

If you used paypal you should also look into filing a claim with them ;)

IF you paid for priority mail services and the item comes to you in a cheaper form of delivery this seller has not only deceived you by not delivering on time they have also commited mail fraud. That is a federal offense.

I'm pretty scary huh?

Thank you in advance for a speedy transaction.

You were absolutely right to leave negative feedback.

I am going through a very similar situation. We ordered a book 12/29. Seller emailed us on 1/15 that she mixed up the order and sent us buyer 2's book and sent buyer 2 our book. She asked if I could just ship the book I got to buyer 2 and buyer 2 would send me our book and she would reimburse my shipping. I agreed and said I would send it priority because it could be a long time before buyer 2 got it if I sent it media mail. I sent it, told her the cost and she said she would put a check in the mail to me.

I knew when buyer 2 got their book since I had tracking on it. Seller tells me buyer 2 sent out my book, but there is no tracking and days are going by. We really needed the book. Seller assured me buyer 2 said they sent it. Finally on 2/2, it arrived, but from the SELLER's home address and postage mark on it dated JAN.27 from SELLER's hometown! Obviously, buyer 2 sent it back to seller, who sent it on to me. But seller never told me that. Seller told me several times that she was putting my shipping check in the mail "tomorrow". Haven't received that either. I emailed her last night and got a reply today that she put the check in the mail yesterday. Ok - I'll give it until Wednesday and see if I get it. I tried to file a claim, but half.com said that since I sent the book to buyer 2 instead of back to the seller, there was nothing they could do. Sheesh, I was just trying to help someone get their stuff faster. Ok - lesson learned.

You were definitely right to leave negative feedback. If I don't receive my reimbursement by Wednesday I will do the same. How else will other people know about these sellers? I don't think she can retaliate against you (or my seller against me) because I believe I read that you can't leave anything other than positive feedback for buyers. I'm new at this too, but I'm learning quickly.

Don't feel bad at all. It takes 2 minutes to refund money - she was definitely flaking out on you!

BTW, I rented my current textbook from bookrenter.com. It came in just a few days and only cost me $40 for a 60 day rental. I'll do that for all my books from here on out!

You were right. I gave up on ebay a long time ago. All because the seller wasn't honest about the shipping cost. Then when I asked her about it, she complained about the cut ebay gets from her. I left negative feedback. Haven't bought a thing through them since. If they can't be honest about prices, expect negative feedback.

I ordered the book Jan 7. The description said that they would ship Priority so I should have had it within the next week or so. When it hadn't arrived, I contacted the sell. She said that she couldn't check until the next Tue because of MLK day. That's when the story started to change.

Half wouldn't let me file a claim until Feb 1. So I did that. I didn't realize that there was a 30 day limit but when I still had not heard from the seller or received my refund, I left feedback Feb 6. I just checked again and I still do not have a refund nor do I have any messages from Half (regarding the claim but they said that it could take 30 days) nor do I have any messages from the seller.

I used a credit card to order but not with PayPal. I will dispute the charge and have the bank start a charge-back.

I've never had to file a claim before. Can you tell me what process will I have to go through? If you filed a claim this seller this seller will HAVE TO go through the process with you in order to get the negative feedback removed. Will they remove the negative feedback when I get the refund?

I think you were right in giving negative feedback.

I had a problem once with a buyer. I mailed the item through UPS 2nd day to their address. Then received an email that they wanted it shipped to another address after I had already sent it. The item was lost by UPS and was never received. Tried to track it with UPS by contacting them directly and it was never found. Buyer filled a dispute through Paypal and we went through that. I had sent paperwork to get a full reimbursement of the money from UPS to the buyer. Paypal investigated and found that I was not at fault and when the buyer did not respond to the decision, closed the case. The buyer also stated to Paypal that I was not replying to emails. I had copies of all email replies that I had sent to him showing him that I was trying to find the missing item with UPS. I had sent him all documentation that I was filing with UPS and their responses to me. Since the buyer did not respond to the decision, I think they got their refund from UPS and didn't want to admit it.

On one auction of mine, I stated that I would not ship out of the states and someone won the auction that lived in Spain. She apologized that she did not notice that I wouldn't ship out of the country. She asked if I would ship the item to her anyway, but would understand if I took the 2nd highest bidder instead. I told her that if she wanted to pay the shipping, I would be happy to ship it to her. She was so happy that I did this. She really wanted the item and felt so bad that I had to would have to fill out the extra paperwork to ship it to her. It didn't take much and I sold the item and that is all that mattered. Plus I knew that she would be happy to get the item.

Be careful - you may not want to do this. This phrase is from the buyer protection plan policy on the half.com site "Buyers who go though their credit card company to dispute a charge may lose their privilege to buy or sell on Half.com." I read it many times because of my problem. It also was frustrating trying to get an answer from half.com about my situation.

I also just read that you have up to 60 days to leave feedback.

Thank you for the info. I didn't realize that would be a problem. I'll wait the 30 days and see what Half does about getting me the refund.

Does Half notify the seller that I left negative feedback?

No, you're not wrong and that bolded bit would have ticked me off, royally.

IMO anytime your shopping experience is negative... Negative feedback should be left, but others are quick to defend sellers and think we need to give them the benefit of the doubt to rectify the situation.

I ordered an Item, wrong item was sent= negative shopping experience, PERIOD.

But some feel like I need to give the seller two more weeks to reship and fix there mistake. If I go to WALMART and buy a box of cereal, and then when I get home find out it is crackers inside the box... NEGATIVE shopping experience.
