I learned something new about tires

So I went to my local (insert name of large retailer that starts with S here) Auto Center to have them check my tires before my drive up to WDW this weekend.

After being stunned at the woman's nails (they must have been like 12 inches long ... no kidding), she checked out the tires and recommended that I keep the tires that I have as they're still good and that even though the better tires are in the rear, they should stay that way. Knowing that my time is limited, I figured I might as well get some new tires right then and there. She said I only would really need two new tires.

After walking around the mall, having lunch at the food court, and window shopping at the Apple store, I returned to get my car, where they'd put the new tires in the rear! I'd always thought that new tires go in the front. So when I get home, I check online and yes, in fact, they recommend putting new tires in the rear! Something having to do with stopping and traction. I don't know. I'm not a car person.

So there you have it. Just in case this happens to you!

That is why I always send DH to do stuff like that because I would inevidably screw it up and have to hear about it all the way down to Florida.

Well it all depends on if your car is front or rear wheel drive. And it also depends on who you ask, there are pros and cons to what you thought was right and what the person told you. You could ask 100 different people and and get different answers from every person.

Not that I'm an expert or anything.

I've been told, that if your back tires have less traction than the front and you have to panic stop on a slick surface (rain, snow) you will likely end up going down the road backwards. I imagine this would make it much more difficult to avoid what ever you are stopping for.....:confused3

just my 2c worth

My husband watched a video at Costco explaining exactly what you were told. Something about traction. He always thought the opposite as well, but said that video showed demonstrations and then it made sense.

Oy !

Any kind of car maintenance is anxiety-inducing for me...

I usually just buy four new ones at a time... But, that's good to know.

I was going to get four, but money is tight at the moment ... and I'm hoping to buy some Olszewski pieces this weekend at WDW.

The old tires were till good, so I could have kept all four old ones ... plus, I'm sure I'll get the other two soon enough.
