I know this question is kind of strange...

but do any of your children with special needs have a fear of using automatic flushing toilets? I am trying to figure out how to take my son to the restroom in the airports since they all have them now, cant remember if Disney does or not, anyone know? I dont want him in diapers for the entire trip (he is fully toilet trained) but he refuses to go if the toilet flushes automatically. Any ideas?

They do have some automatic flush toilets, I know this because I used to have the same problem when I was a kid. There was a thread about this with loads of suggestions a while back, I'll try and find it. The post-it suggestion is a great one though (just be careful it doesn't flap and set off the sensor itself!).

Just to let you know even non SN kids are afraid of the autoflush toilets. DD at almost 7 is just about fine with them now.

Most of WDW has them now. In fact, the only place I can think of that doesn't is much of Epcot. Even then, I think some places in Epcot have auto sinks.

There are a few Non auto flush potties in the parks. The baby Care center at Epcot has them. I think the one at MK does too.

I use the mini post its. Works like a charm and small enough to keep a stack in your pocket to grab quickly when you need it.

DS (autism) is not afraid of the toilets...HE wants to be the one to flush it. He gets very agitated if it flushes before he gets a chance to do it. :lmao:

http://www.mouseplanet.com/potties/ is for Disneyland and shows the type of urinals and stall as well as flush or no flush status of bathrooms.

http://flushedaway.aol.com/ is not working for me and was a good WDW bathroom guide.

This site has photos of WDW bathrooms and lots of them.

You are not alone as it is scary for a kid to have a loud noise eminating from the toilet. A board's lengthy discussion on this issue.

Thanks! We will try the post it notes. I am glad to hear we arent the only ones who have dealt with this.

We have used Post It notes for a number of years. Because of DD's cerebral palsy, she has trouble sitting still on the toilet.
The Post it notes are great because they are cheap, we've never had a toilet flush because one moves and they are easy to remove once you are finished and ready for the toilet to be flushed.
The only caution I would give is that many of the sensors have a small push button underneath them as kind of an emergency flush if the sensor didn't work. My DD sometimes leans back far enough to push the button. If your child doesn't do that, you will have no problems using the Post it notes.

I hear that! As an N/T Mom :lmao: I get really irritated when ya get the "surprise" flush! "whaaat? I'm not done yet!"

I also had read that you can pull off a strip of toilet paper and drape that over the sensor. Which might be easier to do, although not as secure.

How about ear plugs or noise canceling ear phones? We've used the ear phones for our daughter who has SID.

I'm almost 28 and I still don't like the darn things, although I will use them :rolleyes1

post its work well, we have also draped tp in front of the sensor, but there is not always something above the sensor to drape the tp from.
