I'm really excited. We booked a cabin for NYE thru Jan 6th. We (Walter and I) never do anything on NYE - being that we're cynical, jaded, old, crotchety gay people. I'm really looking forward to this as FW as become my favorite resort at WDW, and we're not doing it as part of a review for the show or the site, this one is just for us. We've decided to try and make this a yearly event. We have no plans of going anywhere near a theme park - just want to start the new year off someplace we both love. I'm actually counting down the days until we're there - and trust me, that hasn't happened in YEARS.

Just wanted to share that :)

Hope you have a great time!

(I'm so not a night person -- New Year's Eve is always a struggle for me to stay awake that long. :goodvibes)

Pete,,first let me say,
"Welcome to the Dis-baords" !! :lmao:

As a cynical, jaded, old, crotchety heterosexual fisherman, I would like to take this opportunity to invite ya'll to try the fishing while at the Fort. Some of the best bass we've caught have been ot Bay Lake.
Since you won't be doing any parks you'll have plenty of time to wet a line.

The Marina offers wonderful Guided Fishing Excursions (kinda pricey $), but you don't have to haul around fishing equipment,,they provide everything.

Hava fabulous trip ! :thumbsup2

Pete, sounds like a great plan. I just have one suggestion for you. As you get older, you might want to move your location of choice further west. As nice as the Fort is, midnight is still midnight. Here in the central time zone, I can watch the festivities from Times Square in my comfy chair and be in bed by 11:05. Out in the mountain time zone, they can go to bed at 10, and all the way out in CA they can catch it all and still be in bed just past 9, which really fits me better.

So, enjoy NYE in the east this year, but in the future, you may want to Go West, Old Man.

Make sure you're at the beach at midnight! Take some folding chairs and a cooler of adult beverages! That's one of our fav ways to usher in the new year!;)

Last NYE we were in Epcot because some out of town friends wanted to go. I don't care if my mom & dad resurrect from the dead and want to go to a park on NYE!! I will NEVER be in a park on December 31st, ever again!!! How's that for being crotchety?

Enjoy your stay Pete!! (Of course, now that you've announced it to all the DIS Fort Fiends, don't know that it will be exactly quiet for you!!) I'm almost positive their will be other DISers there. Look for the green ears, and join a party!!

Rule #1 only a few replies later :goodvibes. Thanks for everything :thumbsup2.

Hard to find a nicer place to have an old year out and new year in tradition begin. Don't really need a theme park when nature surrounds you.

DW and I love FW also and have our traditions. Will be there in a few days for DW's 60th, then early Dec. for Christmas vibes then early Jan. for our 5K, 1/2M and my full M.

I could say have a great time but no need to because after-all, you-all will be at FW.

I can't think of a better way to ring in the New Year!!

We fall in the crotchedy, jaded, old category too and rarely bother to stay up to ring in the new year these days, but I know if we were at the Fort we'd be out on the beach with you all. Have a great time!! :goodvibes

Kungaloosh (FWGuy modification)

1/4 cup Blackberry Brandy
1/4 cup Capt Morgan's spiced rum
1/4 cup strawberry daiquiri mix
1/4 cup orange juice

Blend with enough ice to make slushy.

Sounds like a great plan to me.

Here's a few photos to give you something to look forward to.

From Clementine's Beach at midnight on January 1, 2010:

As you can see, a lot of folks steer clear of the parks on NYE!

I hope to be there again this year!

If you decide to do a park in the future, we did MGM (Hollywood Studios). It was crowded, but we had a great time. No drunks or screaming kids. There were live bands under the hat and fantastic fireworks. We took the advice of many CM's on their recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Next time, we might try the beach. No sense doing the same thing all the time, except coming to The Fort.

Deb..I've always said you have a way with words!

TCD...you're makin' me jealous with those pictures. Very nice. :thumbsup2

Pete...sounds like a lovely way to start off the New Year. ::yes::
Hopefully they'll still be some sites decorated for the Christmas season.:santa: From what I've read here, you might want to look into renting a golf cart so you can looping and see the lights and decorations displayed by the campers.

If you need to be away from drunks and screaming kids, then Clementine's Beach may not be the place for you. There are always some of both on NYE. We think it adds to the atmosphere.

There will be plenty of sites still decorated for Christmas, and all of the Fort's decorations and the big Christmas tree outside of Crockett's Tavern will still be up on NYE.

If you want to rent a cart from the Fort, check on reserving one now- I have been left out in the cold before- this is one time that they often run out of carts to rent.

I hope you have a great trip. There are very few places that are as magical.

Just watch out for the otters. And be careful dodging clotheslines. :laundy:

And when you are on the beach watching the fireworks, don't forget to "Stay out of the damn lakes!"

Hope you have a great trip, Pete. BTW-I love the podcast!

I can't think of a better place to ring in the New Year. You and Walter will have a blast, and I am looking forward to the trip report. You will do a TR won't you?????:thumbsup2

I enjoyed the review you guys did on the podcast a while back, especially the comparison of the rental RV and the cabin.

Ditto on both counts! I have my headphones on most days at work listening. In between the new shows I'm working my way back through the archives. :thumbsup2
