I hate the dark. I've been on thunder mountain and splash mountain and was fine. I was wondering if I was okay with the dark on those if I could handle the darkness on space mountain, rockin rollercoaster, everest, dinosaur, Peter pan's flight, spaceship earth, figment, haunted mansion and mission space. Thank you to all who will respond :)

I think space mtn has a different type of dark feel than splash altogether. It's been a while for me but it was total dark and the "unknowing" got to me last time. And having poor eyesight with no glasses on, Nightmare!
Rockin rollercoaster.... omg, everyone with me loved it.. me, let's just say Sensory Overload atop Anxiety of being "locked in" and being fast loud and dark.. I'm thinking Nooooo

I'm sure others will chime in with more recent ride experiences. I think it's Smart to Ask ahead of time. Whatever you choose to ride, have an AWEsome time!

My guess would be:

Space, probably not
Rock N Rollercoaster not sure
Everest not so much dark there
Dino, not sure
Peter Pan not really that dark, probably ok
Spaceship Earth again, not really that dark, should be ok
Figment not all that dark, similar to the show building in Splash, should be ok
Haunted Mansion you can see pretty well in there, should be ok
Mission Space, it's more about the confined space than the dark I think

Ultimately, best answer is to watch POV youtube videos of the rides so you can judge for yourself.

I would say definitely not to space mountain. It is in total darkness almost the whole time, that's actually how it achieves the effect of seeming faster and more thrilling.
Rockin roller coaster is very short. It has lots of neon lights and things to look at but you're still surrounded bydarkness, so that might be a bit much for you!

Peter pan...I REALLY want to say you will be fine since its such a fantastic ride! You will see lots of illuminated scenes from the movie, very happy music. But its still a little darker than splash mountain. Its not lit up quite as much and there aren't any parts that go outside.

Everest I am almost certain you wiwill enjoy this ride! Its short with plenty of outdoor parts of the track and about as much if not less time spent in the dark as splash.

Haunted mansion definitely not. It is very dark and since it is themes like a haunted house they use the darkness for extra scary effects.

Dinosaur is loud and there's always something to look at! Lots of little up dinosaurs, but again its prettydark in there. Not sure about this one.

I think a good question to ask is what level of darkness can you handle and how much lighting is enough? Splash mountain's scenes are in dark tunnels but are lit up in such a way to emulate the lighting of a spring day outdoors. But rides like peter pan and dinosaur and spaceship earth have low lighting and "neon" lighting like this...

Is that enough lighting for you? Can you sleep with a night light on? A lot of dark rides are dimly lit like that

I would think the smoother rides would be ok. Because they don't jerk or throw your body when you can't see it coming. That being said I've never been on mission space and I find space mountain and dinosaur to be not so smooth. Rock n roller coaster is smooth but does go upside down.

Yes that amount of light is definitely enough for me!

Hard to say. Thunder and Splash really aren't dark rides. Splash has one small drop in the dark, but that's it.

Space Mountain is truly dark. You'll see little bits here and there, but it's probably the darkest ride in WDW. Google an image of it with the lights on and you'll be glad you ride it in the dark. :scared:

Rockin' is also dark, but there are a lot of neon signs that give enough light to dimly see where you're going.

Dinosaur is dark, but you can still see where you're going for the most part. Some parts are darker than others. Lots of jerking around, lots of noise.

Peter Pan, Spaceship Earth and Haunted Mansion shouldn't be a problem. They're all "dark" as compared to daylight, but not pitch black. They're all very slow moving rides too, so no element of speed.

Figment isn't a dark ride, I think you'd be perfectly OK there.

Mission Space has a moment or two of darkness, but most of the time you're looking at a monitor/video so it's not really dark.

I don't like the dark either. When I ride a dark ride, I open my eyes wide & fix my sight on what I can see. Like any speck of light there is, it makes me feel better. On SM, I've been able to see some of the tracks, Everest doesn't have a lot of darkness, neither does SM & Peter Pan. Dinosaur does, but there are flashes of light you can focus on. Also, when all else fails, look at your shoes. It may sound weird, but it works. Don't worry too much though, you'll be fine & have fun.

pace mountain, I think this is the darkest there are stars that glow and if you know where to look you can see light just about all the time but you really can not see the track infant of you

rockin rollercoaster, less dark then space there are neon sign and things all over it is a really fast one and over fast too

everest, has a few seconds of dark ness but not much most of it is out side.

dinosaur, not rally dark in my option there are places that it is but you can see thing the whole time

Peter pan's flight, not dark you can see thing the whole time but you are high up so if that is a problem this ride might be too

spaceship earth, not not dark at the end you are looking at the stars so the room is dark but it is like going out side and looking at the stars on a very clear night out in the country

figment, not dark but maybe a few second here and there there is one part where a Tain gose behind you ( it is really big fans and train nosies lest about 5 to 10 seconds and at the end it is dark for about 1 to 2 seconds beside that nope not dark

haunted mansion I would say low light ( beside the stretching room where it is dark for about 3 seconds) but you can see things

and mission space. only dark for about 5 second but I think the buttons still have a light on them or there was some very din light when you go into hyper sleep for the 5 seconds. you are in a very close space for the whole ride.

Yes that amount of light is definitely enough for me!

In that case I think you'll definitely be ok with most of the dark rides!! They are not to be missed, you won't regret experiencing them. :)

I would say just avoid space mountain and haunted mansion in your case. Mission: space should be fine since your looking at a screen for the most part. Have a great trip!!

A tip when my daughter wasn't a fan of Everest because of the dark. She wore glow bracelets during the day. Three or four were enough light for her to enjoy the ride. She loves it now.
Best $2 I ever spent pre trip.

The one you need to watch out for is People Mover. It's a slow moving ride but there is a piece where you are in almost complete darkness. It's very surprising if you're not expecting it. I remember as a kid being terrified that my parents had somehow tricked me into going on Space Mountain! That said - it's not fast or scary, really. You may just want to have a light handy for the dark part!

Great idea!
