What's the cheapest way to get from Halifax to Orlando, flying? I've read on here on occasion people flying US Airways and others. I've also read some people drive to Bangor? What has been your experience and what did it cost?

TIA!

I guess ... you may want to talk to me ...

Don't drive to Bangor, spend the extra 2 hours and hit Portland. Way more options for flights etc and may options for park and flys. My guess is that you would be at least $100 cheaper per person for the flight alone (could be as high as $200 per person), plus the savings on park and fly. Portland is my first choice. Manchester is my second!

When you are flying from Portland .... look to United, Jetblue, Southwest

Best case Halifax to MCO is usually $500 ... although years ago I managed $329. Long term suggestion: collect points ... we use United and collect points from Portland and Manchester ... this December we fly from Halifax and back on points! Always collect points!

We always travel from the Halifax airport instead of Maine and here are my tips to make things cheaper.
Fly Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Plan to book flights about 1-3 months out.
Check multiple times per day for prices.
Know what itineraries you are interested in and write them down.
Check the airline websites as well as retailers such as Expedia.
Make sure you are comparing prices in all US dollars or all Canadian dollars. Decide in advance what price you are willing to accept and book the flights as soon as the price reaches that amount.
They say prices go down Tuesdays at midnight and rise so they are most expensive during weekends but I don't think this is always true.
If you're travelling from December through May also check the charter airlines such as Sunwing and Canjet.
If Moncton is acceptable for you, try to source that airport as well.

I'm looking for February myself and have already broken my own rule. We're planning to travel on Saturday, argh.

Good luck! And be sure to post when you get a good deal. :surfweb:

After many months of looking, I finally booked a fight out of Bangor for $328 pp over the Christmas holidays last week.lowest I seen a flight out of Halifax was $502.I thought of flying out of Portland but ended up picking Bangor cuz if fit our time schedule better. Portland was cheaper but I was comfortable picking Bangor for the extra $40 pp.
So as a lot of people here will say, if you don't mind the drive, flying from Maine saves your family hundreds of dollars.

I didn't know that Presque Isle had an airport that has flights connecting through Boston that aren't that expensive, compared to Bangor. It's a smidge closer than Bangor.. could be an interesting time. :)

If you are looking to travel during peak times, book early. I am limited with my dates so when booking for March break, I usually book by September (or earlier) and I get decent deals. Anywhere around $500 is good! When only two are travelling, I don't find it cost effective to drive to Portland but when you have 4 or 5, it is definitely worth it. I have to drive five hours just to get to Halifax so Portland is quite a long drive...but I'll do anything for Disney!
