Is there really any value in purchasing in 25 pt increments at VGC?
I mean, that gets you one night in a studio in the lower seasons.

Opinions??

Thanx

At the newer resorts that have the increased point per night, I would not purchase a 25 pt. contract. If it were at the older, sold out resorts or possibly AKV, then those 25 pts. go alot further. That is until the next point reallocation.....

I agree with not relying on one 25pt contract to get you what you want, but, speaking as someone who bought into DVC with a small resale contract to avoid the 160pt minimum, I do think a 100pt purchase broken into 25 pt sub-contracts has more intrinsic resale value than a single 100 pt contract. Even if it means $2 or $3 more per point at resale, its something, for what amounts to no extra work on your end.

I'd like to hear more opinions on this, since we're likely going to buy 125-150pts at GCV and my DH doesn't think we should split it at all. If for no other reason than we have 3 kids and 3 50pt contracts would be easy to split amongst them if we ever wanted to. Is there any con to splitting the contract? Help me convince DH we should split, or convince me we shouldn't bother.

Why not split them? It is no harder to keep up with. If you finance, you can possibly pay one off at a time. As you say, you can give one to each of the kids. There are no disadvantages to splitting them up, that I can think of. It might make life easier in the long run, but I can't think of why it would ever make things more difficult. Maybe there is a reason I just haven't come across yet. :confused3

This is purely a personal opinion, but I think that a 100-150 contract is a lot more attractive than that of a 25-50 point contract. Again, personally speaking, if I only wanted to add 25-50 points at a sold out resort, I would just go on the waitlist until Disney had something to sell me rather than dealing with the resale market. However, for those who want to get their feet wet with DVC, a contract that is a little bit smaller than the minimum of DVC's mandatory buy-in (yet still large enough to stay for a week) is a perfect fit. I've seen a trend on The DIS in the past couple months where people have been in a bit of a frenzy about splitting their contracts due to the belief that smaller contracts sell quickly via resale, and I believe (again, personal opinion) think that the hassle outweighs any potential benefit. I would agree with your DH not to split. Either way, good luck! :goodvibes

I don't have any answers, MG. I just wanted to say hi

if all you need is 5 nights in a studio at VGC every 3rd year in a low pt season, then maybe...

but generally, i'd say no.

My thought was the increased closing costs of selling multiple small contracts if I were to sell at some point. That would effectively drive the per point price higher, and may not be as attractive.

Thanx to all responded!
And... Hi Muuska! Good to see you again. I've been somewhat absent as of late.
