I am looking ahead to book off-property accommodation around the Disneyland Half-Marathon (September 2-8 2015 or thereabouts). Places sell out really fast around runDisney events, so I want to get in there early.

Not all hotels have their rates available yet, but I get $107/USD per night at BWPPI with my CAA membership. Is this a good enough deal for BWPPI?

I really want to be within short walking distance (5 minutes or less) as we will likely be very stiff after the race.

(Note: We are WDW vets and are finding it hard to fathom being off property, but the DLH looks like a 'value' resort to me and I cannot reconcile the prices in my head. As we are doing the Wine and Dine half in November 2015 as well, I would like to use the off property savings to upgrade to a Deluxe hotel at WDW.)

I have not stayed at the BWPPI so hopefully someone else will chime in, but that sounds like a good price to me for one of the closest motels.

I was just curious what makes the DLH look like a value resort to you. We have stayed there a few times and LOVED it! Most of the time we cannot afford it but I long to stay there every trip, LOL. It definitely feels like a more deluxe hotel to me than the WDW moderate POR.

Good luck on the race!

Hi Mad Hatter Fan!

Well maybe I should have worded more like it is not worth the Deluxe rates they are charging? I too have stayed at moderates at WDW and I find the renovated values better than some of the moderates. When we're in WDW we either just do values or do a split-stay between the values and a deluxe.

Thanks for the well wishes for the race! I have a LOT of training ahead of me! :yay:

I agree, I think The DLH is much nicer than the moderate POR. (I'm also quite partial to the DLH!)

I think that's a great rate for BWPPI. We stayed there in Feb 2013 and paid $99.

I'm starting to think about this too!

We stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites for this year's marathon weekend and it was great being so close to the parks :thumbsup2 Just remember though that it's still a fair walk to the start and finish line. If you want to be closer to that, you're better off looking at hotels on the Walnut side. I'm looking at doing this for next year. From that side it's a little further to the parks, but you could always catch the monorail into Disneyland if you didn't want the extra 5 minute walk.

Also if you're booking so far in advance, make sure you call to confirm your reservation a few days in advance. We nearly came unstuck with the DI&S. When they tried to take our deposit a few days before the reservation, our credit card declined because it had expired since I booked it and had been replaced with a new one. Because of that, they had 'unreserved' our room, but hadn't bothered to tell anyone! Luckily they mustn't have had anyone want to book our room in the meantime. We would have been very UNhappy campers if we'd have gotten off a 14 hour flight to find that our room had been given to someone else!

I think thats a good rate for BWPPI for labor day! The cheapest I've gotten there with AAA is $89 and that was years ago. BWPPI is right at the crosswalk to the esplanade. Its pretty much as close as you can get to the park entrance without staying at GCH. To get to the race you'll just cross the street, walk through the esplanade and DTD. Its probably a 10 minute walk to the start/finish. Just depending how fast you're moving

Funny you should say that... I got an instant confirmation from the BW web site confirming my total amount. And then got an email this morning directly from BWPPI saying that the rate was for the first day only and that the subsequent days may have a different rate. Say, what?? So I called to confirm and they said that was a standard message, but that my CAA does not change and I am guaranteed my rate. Phew!

I don't think I have to leave a deposit, but I have to cancel I think 2 days ahead or I will be charged one night's stay or something like that.

Ok thanks so much for the walking instructions. :thumbsup2 This is our first time to Disneyland and a runDisney race there!

Even at 4am, there were heaps of people on their way already. Just follow the crowds :thumbsup2 You'll see the start line as you cross Magic Way when you do your packet pick up, so you'll have an idea of the general direction you need.

Ok, perfect! Are you planning on doing the half in 2015 too? :cheer2:

Hopefully :goodvibes

I did the 5k and 10k at this year's weekend as my first ever fun runs. We all had such a great time, we're pretty keen on aiming for the half next year.

Coming from Australia though, not sure if the budget will stretch to 2 years in a row

We are looking to do the WDW Wine and Dine half marathon in November 2015 for our coast to coast medal... so I totally understand budget constraints. We are in Ottawa, Canada and fly out of Syracuse NY... Just waiting on JetBlue to open up their next leg of flights!

Well, hopefully I'll see you on the Disneyland Half Marathon 2015 planning thread!

And once you're into DTD they'll have some race photogs out there taking pics if you want to get a prerace pic while you're still looking fresh!

The DLH is far from being anything near a 'value' resort at WDW.

I'm not coming to the parks for the DL Half Marathon Weekend, but I am already booked for Star Wars Celebration (April-off property), D23 (August-off property), and October after our DCL (DLH).

I already have several clients booked for D23 weekend, so you are not alone in your early planning :)
