Hey everyone, I've been lurking on here the past couple weeks and am finally ready to book our trip. In the mean time, I have also added about 6 more family members that want to join us. So is it cheaper to do a suite with 10 people or for each family to do there own rooms in a hotel? Are there any hotels across the street that do two conjoining rooms with two queens and pullout each? I was looking at the residence inn maingate and they suggested their penthouse suite but it only slept 8. Well have 6 adults, 3 toddlers and a 7 year old. Also is it really worth it to book through Costco? Thanks so much in advance! This is a first trip for all the kids and a couple of the adults and were flying in from Hawaii!

I can answer the Costco question. For us it was about $20 more booking thur Costco then getting a hotel and tickets on their own but since we got the character meal and a $20 gift card it came out cheaper.

As far as what's cheaper room wise you will have to price out doing both and see. You may also check places like homeaway.com and price out renting a home. It most likely won't be with in walking but it could be cheaper. Just factor in parking if needed.

deserts in has suites being large enough we are staying there for the 1st time in late august. they are cheaper then seperate rooms and right across from disneyland. that being said how well does everyone get along. cause after a long day at disney you might want to be able to return to your own seperate place at the end of the night

OP- If you want ALL 10 people to share a space, then I would definitely look into renting a vacation home. Prices are typically in the $200 mark and split between several families, this would be your MOST affordable option. If you buy park tix through AAA, you'll get a discount on the tix plus free parking.

However, if you want to stay within walking distance, then I would look into booking a couple suites. What's the breakdown of the adults/families going?? I'm guessing 2 couples w/kids and maybe grandparents??:confused3

I would suggest for that many people staying in a hotel, that you look into Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate, they offer 2 level suites. So living room/sleeping area downstairs and more beds upstairs. I've never stayed here but I have heard good things and the pool looks great for kids!

I have stayed at the Desert Inn and I personally, wouldn't recommend it. The beds were not that comfy and the pool area is indoors and just depressing.:( Although it is pretty cheap and 2 of the suites will probably accomodate your group.

Good luck!

Well the breakdown is me, dh and ds (2). Dh's cousin, dh, dd(3), dd(4). My sister, dh, dd (7). The only reason I was looking into sharing a suite or a space was in the thinking that it would be cheaper for everyone. We all get a long well and figured we wouldn't be spending all our time together inside the parks, I'm assuming each family will want to venture their own way. I was thinking walking distance because we didn't want to have to rent a car (there's shuttles from lax right?) and for the fact that we still have little ones that take naps and may need to escape from the parks for a little while.

I'll check into the desert inn, I would love a comfy bed but could handle if it wasn't. The residence inn maingate definitely seemed doable price wise for all of us I was just concerned if there would be enough beds.

Our plan is to be there end of september/early october, thinking 4 nights and 3 day park hoppers. And thanks for the replies so far!! Every little bit helps me not feel so overwhelmed to make this happen since I'm the Disney fanatic and everyone nominated me to plan it.

There's also a few suite options at the HoJo. Depending on how far away your trip is, you may be able to snag one of these. There are only a few and they book VERY far in advance. But they do have double queen suites which from what I understand have 2 queen beds in one room and sofa sleeper in another. You may also be able to get a couple cots in the living area...I only mention this because the HoJo is our hotel of choice. In fact, DH recently turned down the Wyndham at $25/night (awesome deal through his mom) just so we could stay at the HoJo! However, the also offer standard double doubles for $59/night with an Entertainment Card. So this way each family could have their own room and only pay $59/night! However, these are only offered on certain days. Check out the link for more info http://www.boards.hojoanaheim.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14 And don't be discouraged if you don't see you're dates- they open up all the time & are always adding more!

I've stayed at Residence Inn in the Loft suite. It has a king in the loft, 2 queens in the bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living room. The loft and bedroom each have a bathroom. Breakfast was good (waffles, scrambled eggs, ect.). For us with little ones it is a further walk than we like. At the end of the day it can take a toll. For us with little ones it took 15-25 min from hotel room to turnstile. It's past the Gardenwalk (an outdoor mall) and Anaheim blocks are not normal city blocks. They are giant, mega blocks that never seem to end. :rotfl2:

Hojo's is awesome in terms of location, pool, and price. Like chrissiecutie said they have great rates. The only downside is they do not offer breakfast. For some that is a deal breaker. From room to turnstile the walk was about 7-10min tops.

Desert Palms (not to be confused with Desert Inn Anaheim) has suites, an indoor pool, breakfast. They have different suite options. I've stayed there a few times as well and have never had a problem. They are located on the same block as DL (on the corner of Katella and Harbor). The walk is about 10-15 min from room to turnstile.

I had friends that rented a house across Walnut from the big parking structure. They had a 5-minute walk to the park tram. They paid $1000 for the week of Thanksgiving for a house with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. There kids were age 4 and 7.

I'd get 3 $50-$70 per night rooms within walking distance. Each family may want to take breaks @ different times, go to and leave the parks at different times, being able to easily walk to your hotel would be ideal. For those rates check out HoJo's ent rate *we got it for late Oct ~ $59 per night!! We got Stovall's Best Western for $60 per night last Thanksgiving weekend using this fantastic tip
Anaheim Plaza is fine *I wouldn't pay more than $60 per night @ the AP.

We stay at the Desert Inn (usually with 6-8 people in our group) a lot (see siggy). It's fine, a standard 2-star hotel with free continental (i.e. starch-filled) breakfast, but the location is absolutely awesome! If you don't have a car (and parking is limited to 1 per room), then this might be a very economical option for you. I have not stayed in the suite that sleeps 10, but we've had plenty of room in the suite that sleeps 8. I would suggest putting kids in the sofabed, because quite frankly, no adult wants to sleep on a sofabed. If you book early, they start out with really good rates on the rooms (they go up as the hotel fills) and I don't think you'll be able to beat it pricewise, at least not within walking distance.
