I know how they are going to get around that NO CALL list

I just got a call from some "consulting" firm. First thing she said was "this isn't a telemarketing call, we just are doing some research about home lenders", yada yada yada

Of course, the upshot of the entire call was that they want to lend us money or refinance our house. Not a telemarketing call, though, just research

Katholyn, report them. It may be sneaking, but it's the same thing.

There will be plenty of calls like that before that no call thing goes into effect.

I'll bet they occur <i>after</i> too. You know the telemarketers will find a way around it.

I was just about to say.... I actually get MORE calls now after I signed up a month ago. Most were 'charity' calls (but I always wonder if they're really charity organization.... they're asking me to buy stuff). Some are recording machines asking me to press 1 to continue.

Very annoying indeed.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but we've gotten quite a few more salespeople coming to our door lately - despite having a 'No soliciting' sign in the front of our neighborhood. Of course, they're not trying to sell us anything, either - oh, no, they're 'giving us an opportunity to save lives'....by buying magazine subsciptions. Honestly, I don't know what's worse, those door-to-door idiots or the telemarketers. If this keeps up I'm going to get a sign to put up by the front door....either that or another doberman!

nativetxn, I got the same call tonight. this guy said "hello, I said whos this, he said Verjel (sp0 and he was wasn't a telemarketer. i told him i am not interested good bye and hung up. That took care of him hahahhahaha

I have a very large dog. He growls and barks when someone comes to the door. I make sure I am holding his collar when I open the door. Then I say, "settle down Killer". Who ever is at the door immediately steps back and leaves when I tell them I am not interested. The only time it doesn't work is someone who is familar with golden retrievers and realizes that as soon as they stick their hand out he'll lick them. Fortunately for me about nine out of ten don't know he'll lick them to death and he is just lunging forward so they'll pay attention to him.

I wish I could do the same for phone telemarketers.

We have been getting a lot of recordings telling us we have "won" a trip to Las Vegas and other such places for the bargain price of ______ (fill in the blank). There is no human to tell to put us on a do not call list.

When does the national registry go into effect? I still haven't done that yet.
